The Tao Sheng Ti was written by the Song Dynasty calligrapher Cai Xiang (蔡襄) in the third year of the Emperor's reign (1051) and is a cursive ruler. Its cursive writing is elegant and beautiful, resembling the charm of the Jin and Song dynasties, and quite similar to the brushwork of Wang Xian. Swirling and flowing, and sometimes seeing cuts and setbacks, soft and rigid. The size of the knot is positive, the weight is light and dense, and it can be done at will.

Cai Xiang (1012–1067), courtesy name Junmo, was a native of Xinghua Xianyou (present-day Xianyou, Fujian). In the eighth year of Tiansheng (1030), he entered the priesthood and was known for his outspokenness. Calligraphy, along with Su Shi, Huang Tingjian, and Mi Fu, is listed as the "Four Houses of the Song Dynasty".
