One day, the Tang monks and disciples passed by Chen Jiazhuang on the banks of the Tongtian River. It is learned that there are monsters inspired by the king, and the annual sacrifice is to eat the virgin boy and girl. So Sun Wukong and the Eight Precepts of the Pig became virgin boys and girls, defeating and recovering the King of Inspiration.
In fact, tongtianhe was originally the world of an old turtle, since the inspiration king came, the inspiration king is actually the goldfish essence of Guanyin Bodhisattva, and the old turtle can't fight him, and he is bullied everywhere. Sun Wukong and the Eight Precepts of the Pig helped it get rid of the Inspiration King, which can be said to be kind to the old turtle. The first time the old turtle crossed the river with four Tang monks and apprentices, even from the perspective of gratitude, it was a matter of course.
However, the unsentimental old turtle told the Tang monk a condition when he drove to the middle of the river, that is, when the Tang monk saw the Buddha, he must help the old turtle ask about his life span.
In fact, what is asked here is not the life span, but when the old turtle will be able to cultivate positive results and transform into human form. The cultivation of ancient elves and monsters took the change of human form as the highest realm of cultivation, and it was also their ultimate ideal.
Everyone knows the situation behind it, and Tang Monk did not help the old turtle. On the way back, when the old turtle also drove the four masters and apprentices to the middle of the river, he asked about the promise that Tang Monk had made to himself. The Tang monk was momentarily gagged, and the old turtle, in a fit of rage, threw them over in the river, and the scriptures were also overturned, and a lot of them were missing after a dip in the water.
Seeing that many people here are very confused, why doesn't Tang Monk help the old turtle? In fact, it is not that Tang Monk does not help, it is that he cannot help at all. There are three main reasons:
First, it is difficult to protect yourself
The four Tang monks had gone through all kinds of dangers to reach the Spirit Mountain, but it was not so easy to get the scriptures. First, Ah Dao and Jia Ye asked the four masters and apprentices for bribes, but tang monks did not give them, and finally they took some wordless scriptures.
Later, Sun Wukong was furious and looked for Rulai's theory, but Rulai did not take them to heart at all, but instead sided with Ah Yu and Gaye. At the same time, the monks of the bhikkhus were also listed as chanting the sutras at the home of the elder Zhao of the Shewei Kingdom.
From this point of view, in Rulai's eyes, the people of Datang are stupid people, who do not understand the world and do not understand human feelings. Later, Tang Monk offered the purple gold bowl given by Li Shimin to get the True Scripture. Just think, in this case, how can you open your mouth to help the old turtle?
Second, there is no way to help
If Buddhist practice is to be cultivated to achieve positive results, there are only two ways. 1. Do more good deeds. For example, the king of the Wuji Kingdom almost became an immortal, and then unfortunately pushed the bodhisattva who tested it into the river, and the success was very regrettable.
2. Equivalent exchange. Ask for it with a sincere heart, and exchange it with a heavy courtesy. Even the Tang monks had gone through all kinds of difficulties and dangers, and after 9981 difficulties, they could only seek the True Scriptures, and finally they had to offer a purple gold bowl to be able to barely get one-third of the True Scriptures.
This is very similar to the real life of asking for people to do things, if you do not work hard, ask people to do things and do not give financial support, this kind of busyness can not help at all.
Third, the old turtle's qualifications are too shallow
If the old turtle really wants to cultivate positive results, it should not be in a hurry. People are doing it, and the sky is watching. He rode four masters and apprentices across the river, and should not have mentioned conditions, moreover, Sun Wukong still had kindness to him first, and help later.
Another point is that when the four old turtle masters and apprentices crossed the river, although they had been practicing for thirteen hundred years, for the peers of the ten thousand year turtle, the qualifications were still very shallow, and they still needed to work hard to hone. Perhaps Tang Monk had already understood this, and not asking for him might be the best experience for him. The last old turtle made a big mistake in anger, and it is estimated that he will have no chance with shengxian.
