The "Symphony of Mountains and Rivers - Southern China Oil Painting Landscape Research Exhibition", jointly sponsored by the National Centre for the Performing Arts and the China Oil Painting Society, opened on April 2, 2022 in the east and west exhibition halls of the National Centre for the Performing Arts.
Different from the oil painting landscape paintings that the public is familiar with, which mainly express objective nature, the "Southern China Oil Painting Landscape Research Exhibition" specially proposes the new concept of "oil painting landscape" from the exhibition title, focusing on the excellent works created by Chinese oil painters from modern to contemporary Chinese oil painters under the influence of Western art.
As a large-scale national touring exhibition project, the exhibition has been exhibited in Shanghai, Xiamen, Hainan and Wuxi. The exhibition was unveiled at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, which is not only the final work of the exhibition, but also the first time that the theme works of "Southern Oil Painting landscape" have been displayed in Beijing.
Slightly different from the previous four touring exhibitions, this closing exhibition specially planned and borrowed more than ten blockbuster works, gathering treasures from the National Art Museum of China, Beijing Lu Xun Museum, CAFA Art Museum, Liu Haisu Art Museum (Shanghai) and famous masterpieces from the artist's family and private collectors.

These works are combined with the works of the touring exhibition, which not only cover the masterpieces of landscape oil painting of the first generation of oil painters who went abroad to study oil painting in the 1920s and 1930s: Yan Wenliang, Liu Haisu, Yang Sun and others; but also include the works of the second and third generations of art masters: Wu Zuoren, Dong Xiwen, Ai Zhongxin, Wu Guanzhong, Su Tianci, Zhan Jianjun, Wen Lipeng, Jin Shangyi, etc. who have made unremitting explorations in the field of oil painting landscapes; there are also the mainstays and rising stars in the oil painting industry today: Yan Ping, Wang Keju, Zhang Liping Hong Ling, Ding Yilin, Weng Kaixuan, Chen Hexi and other artists have worked hard around the topic of "oil painting landscape" to make the latest masterpieces.
Gathering famous artists and shining stars, more than 170 works in the same exhibition of the two exhibition halls present the historical context of the development of Chinese oil painting landscape to the audience through the combing of the exhibition.
The participating artists will focus their creative attention on the beautiful rivers and mountains in the south of the motherland, and their works will either show the unique beauty of natural regions, or show the profound humanistic thoughts, and more poetic expression of the scenery in the artists' hearts. "Oil Painting Landscape" has become a unique creation of Chinese artists to integrate the Chinese cultural spirit into the oil painting landscape.
The exhibition focuses on the achievements of Chinese oil painters in painting painting into the spirit of traditional Chinese culture to depict the southern landscape. The works of different styles will bring the audience a feast of visual art that experiences extraordinary.
