World Solitary Day

2nd April World Autism Awareness Day

World Autism Day丨 Let love no longer be "lonely"

In December 2007, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution designating 2 April as World Autism Awareness Day, starting in 2008. To raise awareness of autism and related research and diagnosis, as well as to people with autism.

Autism, first proposed by Johns Hopkins University expert Leo Canner in 1943, autism is also known as autism in medicine, which is a disease that has not yet been known and understood by the whole society. Unlike diseases such as Down syndrome, autism does not affect the patient's face, so the appearance of autistic patients is no different from that of normal people.

Social background

World Autism Day丨 Let love no longer be "lonely"

Autism is a lifelong developmental disorder caused by a neurological disorder that affects brain function, and symptoms appear before the age of three, mostly in children. Sick children are stunted in their development and lack normal verbal and social communication skills. In order to raise awareness of autism and strive for early treatment to improve the condition of patients, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution in December 2007 designating 2 April of each year as World Autism Day. The resolution was submitted by Qatar and co-sponsored by 50 other countries.

Children with autism are a group that is increasing in number but is not widely concerned and understood by society, and is a group that lacks universal social care. Report: U.S. Department of Health officials say one in every 156 U.S. children suffers from autism. Such a high proportion far exceeds people's estimates. To this end, the U.S. Department of Health is calling on the public to increase public attention to the disease. In China, if the child population is calculated, according to the census statistics, in 2000, the number of children in China was about 290 million, accounting for 22.89% of the total population, and children with autism accounted for about 0.6% of the total number of children. And it cannot be denied that there are many children with autism who have not been discovered, diagnosed, let alone treated. The number of children with autism in China and the treatment and correction have always faced great challenges.

Autism is a "suspicious disease", the cause of it has not been found in the domestic and international medical level, and all physiological examination results of children with autism are normal. But it can be concluded that autism is a congenital disorder of brain development, a disease of the nervous system, and will be accompanied for life and cannot be cured. Foreign countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan and other developed countries have a history of diagnosing and treating autism for more than 40 years, and have accumulated many successful experiences. Practice has proved that after early correct and persistent intervention, many children with autism can integrate into society and live independently.

April 2, 2011 The fourth World Autism Awareness Day, the number of people with autism in the world has reached 67 million, especially the incidence of which is rising sharply worldwide. According to the statistics of the national census of disabled people, children's autism has accounted for the first place in the mainland's mental disability, and it is estimated that the number of children with autism in the Chinese mainland has exceeded one million, and the prevalence is increasing year by year, while those who have not been diagnosed and have autism tendencies may be more.

Symptoms manifest

World Autism Day丨 Let love no longer be "lonely"

First, the interest is narrow, and the behavior is stereotyped and repetitive. Children with autism often focus on one or more games or activities for a longer period of time, such as being obsessed with themselves spinning in circles on the ground, watching TV commercials and weather forecasts, and not interested in cartoons and children's TV series with storylines.

Second, lonely and isolated, do not establish contact with others. Children with autism like to be alone and have no dependence on their parents, and some children have reactions in infancy, do not like others to hold, and cry when others pick up. Their loneliness is also manifested in not caring about the things around them, doing whatever they want, without scruples, and what happens around them has nothing to do with him, it is difficult to attract his interest and attention, and they do not make eye contact with others.

Third, speech disorders are prominent. Most children with autism speak very little, in severe cases, without words, and do not respond even when others are shouting loudly. Some can make sounds, but they can't complete the situational communication, and can only make simple repetitive sounds. Others will appear to speak in a small voice or with unclear pronunciation, and only those who are familiar with him can understand his meaning. Some also previously show normal speech ability, and sudden decline in speech ability at the age of 3-4 and a half years, losing the ability to communicate situationally.

Purpose of establishment

World Autism Day丨 Let love no longer be "lonely"

The significance of designating April 2 every year as the "World Autism Awareness Day": From the first case of autism in the world in 1943 to 2008, 65 years have passed, and human awareness of autism and self-responsibility has taken a new historic step.

The World Autism Awareness Day reminds human society that mutual respect, mutual understanding and mutual care between people with autism and ordinary people should be realized. As ordinary people, we should not regard autistic people as objects of pity, but should take April 2 as an opportunity to examine and strengthen our own moral concepts and social responsibilities. As autistic patients and their direct related personnel, such as autistic family members, academics and experts, doctors and nurses, etc., April 2 should also be used as a "gas station" to continue to work together to defeat the disease. People should strive to make April 2 a holiday for people with autism to live confidently and happily.

Experts from the China Academy of Child Development and Behavior pointed out that according to authoritative data, the number of people diagnosed with autism in the mainland is about 1.6 million, and the number of undiagnosed patients should be more than 5 million, while the number of patients is less than 1/10 of this number. Although it has not yet been possible to find a complete cure for autism, but through scientific intervention, rational treatment, autistic children can still be effectively improved, so the theme of the seventh World Autism Day activities aims to call on society to pay attention to autism at the same time, the establishment of early prevention and intervention mechanisms for autistic children, and truly provide space for the equal development of autistic children.

Disease treatment

World Autism Day丨 Let love no longer be "lonely"

Autism is also known as childhood autism. Research data show that autism is a developmental disorder caused by congenital brain function impairment, which can usually be detected before the age of 3. Children with autism generally develop onset within 30 months, but some develop after the age of 3 years. So far, the cause of autism is not clear, but studies have found that childhood autism is a biologically based disease that is highly related to genetic inheritance. Although we do not yet have immediate and specific treatments, autism is not unavailable, and aggressive treatment can still significantly improve the social functioning and quality of life of patients.

There is no single specific treatment for autism, so multi-pronged comprehensive treatment is gradually becoming widely recognized. Where training education is the preferred method, then aided by equally important drug therapy. Some parents think that the child's problem is that the language is backward, as long as the language training can be carried out, in fact, the development of language is closely related to the development of other functions such as movement and cognition, and the training method should also be comprehensive. The stereotypical characteristics of children with autism make it difficult to generalize their acquired skills, and they need to be trained and educated in different occasions to adapt to different requirements, and for symptoms such as self-injury, aggression, agitation, sleep disorders, etc., they need to be prescribed by a specialist. A person who has had a good language or speech function in the early stage or before the diagnosis of autism, although the disease itself limits their potential to develop language, he has this potential or foundation after all, and the use of drugs is more effective.

In addition, the life of children with autism should also be supplemented by dietary therapy, and more coarse grains and green leafy vegetables should be eaten on weekdays, which is conducive to physical and mental health. It is not suitable to eat cereals such as oats and rye, casein foods, foods with pigments and foods with high salicylic acid content.

Since rehabilitation for autism is a long-term or even lifelong training and treatment process, and it consumes a lot of time and energy of caregivers. I remember a parent of a child with autism who once wrote: When I find that my child is different from other children, what I have to do is not to kneel, but to lie down, to lay down to build a bridge for him, to let my child go from my body to the other end... Seeing such a text, we can all understand the inner difficulties of parents of autistic children, and because of this, the whole society is paying more and more attention to autistic patients, and calling on everyone to pay attention to autistic children and care for the autistic people around them. I really hope that one day society can make each of our hearts lie down with gratitude, and truly build these bridges for everyone and for ourselves.
