At present, the prevalence of autism is still rising worldwide. On the mainland, autism is the most important disease that causes mental disability in children. Early reported prevalence was 0.02% to 0.04%, and by 2012 surveillance data showed a prevalence of 1 in 68. The male-to-female ratio is 1.33-16:1. Although autism is relatively rare in women, their symptoms tend to be relatively severe and they are more likely to suffer from other psychiatric problems. "But for autism, there are still many misconceptions among the public." Tang Jun, chief physician of the Pediatric Health Department of the Wuhan Mental Health Center, said that for children with autism, the younger the age, the stronger the plasticity of neurodevelopment. Therefore, early identification and intervention are the key to efficacy. The purpose of diagnosis is not to "label" the child, but to more objectively assess the child's growth difficulties under the influence of autism symptoms, so as to develop an individualized rehabilitation plan.

Although the exact cause and pathogenesis are still unclear, the current view is that it is a result of the interaction of genetic factors, genetic factors and environmental factors. How do you know if your child has autism?

Tang Jun, a child rehabilitation expert, said that the earliest problems noticed by parents were "can't speak" and "ignore people", and other manifestations include "not looking at people, not reacting, like deaf people but very sensitive to some sounds, strange play, strange preferences, emotional instability, tantrums, hurting themselves, not understanding what others say, saying something that others can't understand, etc." Specifically, we need to look at the child's social interaction disorders, language communication disorders, narrow interests, adherence to identity and ritual compulsive behaviors, and whether there are sensory and motor impairments, intellectual and cognitive impairments, etc.

As the director of the Child Rehabilitation Department of the Wuhan Mental Health Center, the first to comprehensively carry out autism assessment, diagnosis and rehabilitation training in Wuhan, Tang Jun said: "At present, there is no cure for autism. The most effective and important way is still special education training, after professional evaluation, doctors and parents to develop individualized treatment programs for children, so as to promote the child's language development, improve social communication skills, master basic life skills and learning skills.
