Driver's licenses are divided into different quasi-driving types, and the higher the quasi-driving type, the more types of vehicles that can be driven. The downgrade of the driver's license is to reduce the range of quasi-driving types by reducing the quasi-driving type.

- Voluntary demotion -
The driver himself voluntarily downgrades the quasi-driving type of the driver's license.

Legal basis
Article 59 of the Provisions on the Application and Use of Motor Vehicle Driving Licenses stipulates:
Those who are over 60 years of age shall not drive large buses, tractors, city buses, medium-sized buses, large trucks, trolleybuses and trams; those who hold driving licenses for large passenger cars, tractors, city buses, medium-sized buses, and large trucks shall go to the place where the motor vehicle driving license was issued or at a vehicle management office other than the place where the motor vehicle driver's license was issued to obtain a motor vehicle driving license with a quasi-driving type of small car or a small automatic vehicle.
(1) Class AB drivers over the age of 60 need to be downgraded to C1 or C2, and a medical examination (valid for 6 months) is required before the downgrade business.
(2) If the age reaches 70 years old, the D and E certificates also need to be downgraded to F certificates.

According to Article 78 of the Provisions on the Application and Use of Motor Vehicle Driver's Licenses:
Where a driver holding a driver's license for a large passenger car, tractor, city bus, medium-sized bus, or large truck has any of the following circumstances, the vehicle management office shall cancel his or her highest quasi-driving type driving qualification and notify the driver of the motor vehicle to handle the demotion and renewal business within 30 days:
(1) Where a traffic accident causes the death of a person, and bears equal or greater responsibility, and does not constitute a crime;
(2) There is a record of 12 points in a scoring cycle;
(3) Not participating in the examination and verification for three consecutive scoring cycles.
If the driver of a motor vehicle fails to handle the business of demotion and renewal within the prescribed time, the vehicle management office shall announce that the cancelled quasi-driving driving qualification shall be invalidated.
