In addition, Cao Xueqin's continuous adjustment of adding and deleting five times in the past ten years has made "Dream of the Red Chamber" numerous new and old miscellaneous versions when Cheng Weiyuan and Gao Hu were collected and published, and the content was quite inconsistent.
At present, "Dream of the Red Chamber" mostly uses the revised version after Cheng Gao and his two people collected a large number of versions and collated and proofread, that is, Cheng Jia ben and Cheng Yi ben as the base. In particular, Cheng Yiben has been more popular for three hundred years.
In the early days, Cheng Yiben signed One hundred and twenty times, the first eighty times signed Cao Xueqin, and the last forty times signed Gao E.
However, with the advent of the "Lipid Commentary" at the end of the Qing Dynasty, especially the "Gengchen Ben" was greatly respected. In recent years, more and more versions have chosen "Gengchen Ben" as the base. For example, the authoritative edition of the People's Literature Publishing House was revised in 1975, and the "Dream of the Red Chamber" published in 1982 chose "Gengchen Ben" as the base.
In fact, the two versions serve as the "base" for a wide audience. The biggest difference is the authorship of the last forty times. Cheng Gaoben is signed by Gao E, and the latest version of the People's Literature Publishing House is signed as Anonymous.
In fact, who the author is is the research direction of experts and scholars, and readers only need to know that the last forty times are not Cao Xueqin's original works. This can be reflected in many aspects such as text, plot design, foreshadowing echo, character personality, ending pattern, literary thought and so on.
In particular, words have a soul, is not a person's handwriting, never deceive people! Not much more.
Cheng Gaoben collected many editions at that time, plus the publication time was very early, I dare not say that eighty times ago, 100% was the original meaning of Cao Xueqin's original text, the original taste. But it's also very close.
Of course, Cheng Gao and his wife also made certain adjustments and modifications to the original text, but compared with the later published and fat commentaries, the difference is subtle and not so big.
In recent years, the "Dream of the Red Chamber" of the People's Literature Publishing House has always been relatively authoritative, and it is also a recommended version.
In particular, after expert research, the author of "Dream of the Red Chamber" was adjusted from the traditional Cao Xueqin and Gao Yan to Cao Xueqin and Anonymous, and gao hu was determined to be a collector and arranger rather than a creator, which caused great repercussions.
The People's Literature Publishing House's Dream of the Red Chamber has two books in my hand, one is a 16-page hardcover book published in 1990, which contains illustrations of Mr. Dai Dunbang's color pages. In 2000, he bought a fragment of the book for 10 yuan at a book stall, and the last two times he was torn off in half. The other is the current common two-volume soft-covered paperback book.
The two "Dream of the Red Chamber" are the same revised version, both using the "Gengchen Ben" as the base, the early signature Cao Xueqin Gao Yan, and now cao Xueqin anonymous.
So, which is better, Cheng Gaoben or renshe version? In fact, the content is basically the same. There are just some minor adjustments.
Comparatively speaking, I personally recommend "Cheng Yiben", of which some of the original texts that have been modified by the "Fat Commentary" are more in line with Cao Xueqin's willingness.
The reason why there are reservations about the lipid commentary, or the Gengchen ben, is that the lipid commentary book appeared too late. On the contrary, it is not as early as Cheng Jiaben and Cheng Yiben. Although its signature time is early, after all, It is inevitable that Li Yanzhai will make people suspicious. Not mentioned.

The twenty-eighth time of the [Sorrow and Joy] wine order, in which Feng Ziying's order of wine order, Cheng Yiben for more than 300 years, has always been [joy and sorrow], which is different from the order of others.
The reason why it is different is that it corresponds to Shi Xiangyun's "Sorrow in Music" song. From Feng Ziying's appearance to Shi Xiangyun's engagement. Interspersed with the [sorrow and joy] liquor order, accompanied by a prostitute Yun'er at that time, it can be proved that Shi Xiangyun's betrothed object is Feng Ziying.
Feng Ziying's order order [Joy and Sorrow] is compared to the [Sorrow in Music] song, which is different from the order of everyone else. If it had not been the original form, it would have been impossible for cheng yiben not to be revised, and the reason why it was retained was because the versions at that time were all in the order of "joy and sorrow".
Just like the twenty-ninth time when I beat Qing Qingxuan, "tits holding the eldest sister and holding Sister Qiao", all versions are like this, and there is no modification. Proof that Wang Xifeng once set up two daughters, adding tragedy to the lack of sons.
However, the People's Literature Publishing House, which uses Gengchen Ben as the base, changed Feng Ziying's order of "joy and sorrow" to the same "sorrow and joy" as everyone else.
In this way, Feng Ziying's liquor order is not special, and the clue corresponding to [Lezhong Sorrow] will be changed, and the "password" left by Cao Xueqin will be changed, and there will be embarrassment of not being able to find who Shi Xiangyun's husband is. So much so that the red scholars mistakenly believed that Shi Xiangyun's husband was unrelated to Wei Ruolan.
In summary, the order of personal recommendation is Cheng Yiben, Renshe Ben, and finally the Fat Commentary. Ordinary readers must read the whole book "Dream of the Red Chamber" one hundred and twenty times. Don't rush to read "Li Yanzhai Reappraisal of the Stone Record", the name of "Dream of the Red Chamber" is more suitable for the original theme!
