Professor Wei Qian Profile:

Born in Shanghai in 1946. He is a member of the China Artists Association, the vice chairman of the Hubei Provincial Artists Association, the consultant of the Beijing WenzhengMing Calligraphy and Painting Institute, and the expert of the exhibition jury. He is currently a professor and doctoral supervisor of Central China Normal University. He is one of the important leaders of the discipline of Chinese copperplate engraving and one of the outstanding representative painters of copperplate engraving in China. He served in the 123rd Regiment of the Seventh Division of the Xinjiang Corps for 15 years.

In 1978, he was admitted to the Graduate School of Printmaking of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. In 1985, he was transferred to Central China Normal University, responsible for the preparation of the department of fine arts, and served as the dean of the Academy of Fine Arts for four terms. He was awarded the "Outstanding Contribution Award for the Development of Higher Education in mainland China" by the State Council and received a special government allowance in 1992.

In the practice of fine art creation for many years, Wei Qian has been involved in the four types of printmaking (concave, flat, convex and hole), and has studied and created a large number of works in copperplate, lithograph, woodcut, silkscreen, photographic copperplate engraving and other aspects. At the same time, there are also excellent works in various art fields such as drawing, sketching, pen drawing, book tickets, oil painting, comic strips, watercolor, illustration, etc.

He has participated in 23 national art exhibitions sponsored by the China Artists Association (including the Ministry of Culture) and won gold, silver, bronze and excellent work awards for many times. In 1999, he won the Lu Xun Printmaking Medal of the "Chinese Printmaking Contribution Award". He has participated in biennial and triennial exhibitions held by international printmaking organizations, museums and art galleries 31 times and won awards. Among them, the copperplate engraving "Light of Asia" won the Special Prize of the 3rd International Triennial of Printmaking in Kochi (the only one), and "The Transcendence of History - Crossing the Taklamakan" won the Special Prize of the International Printmaking Exhibition in Kraków, Poland, which is the highest award won by the mainland copperplate engraving work in the international print exhibition since the 1980s and 199s. His book ticket works have won the gold medal of the exhibition sponsored by the Library Ticket Research Association of the China Artists Association three times. He is the author of 7 monographs, including "Pen Painting Techniques and Works Demonstration", "Copperplate Engraving Studio", and "Wei Qian Copperplate Engraving Art".
