Which 5G business is stronger? Three major domestic telecom operators announce February "report card"

On the evening of March 21, China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom successively disclosed the February operating data. Upstream news reporters found that according to the data disclosed by the three major domestic telecom operators, the total number of 5G package users of China Mobile is the highest, but from the perspective of 5G user penetration, China Telecom is the highest. It is worth mentioning that China Unicom will no longer announce the net increase in users from this month.

According to the announcement, in February, the number of mobile subscribers of China Telecom was 376 million, a net increase of 890,000 in the month; 202 million of mobile service users were 5G package users, a net increase of 6.08 million in February, a cumulative net increase of 14.34 million in the year. In February, China Telecom's 5G subscribers accounted for 53.7% of the total number of mobile service subscribers.

China Unicom's february operating data shows that in February this year, the cumulative number of "big connection" users reached 772 million, and the cumulative number of 5G package users reached 165 million. The announcement shows that the cumulative arrival number of "big connection" users is the cumulative arrival of mobile billing users + the cumulative arrival of fixed-line broadband users + the cumulative arrival of fixed-line local telephone users + the cumulative arrival of Internet of Things terminal connections + the cumulative arrival of network private line users.

In addition, since this month, China Unicom will no longer disclose the net increase in users on a monthly basis, but will increase transparency in key areas such as "ubiquitous smart connection", "innovative application", "smart service" and "scientific and technological innovation". This move breaks the 20-year industry tradition, and also jumps out of the industry data comparison, guiding investors to pay attention to the company's digital transformation and upgrading results.

For the performance of the three major operators in the 5G business, Niu Yang, general manager of the Chongqing Yongchuan Business Department of Hualong Securities, told reporters: "At present, the 5G customer user conversion of the three major operators is basically close to or more than half of their mobile users, indicating that China's 5G commercial use has achieved good results in just two years, and in the future, while continuing to convert 5G individual customers, the three major operators will certainly pay more attention to the development of enterprise customers." Because of the goal of 'Internet of Everything' laid down from 5G, its carrier terminals and application scenarios are not limited to individual users. ”

He pointed out that the latest data content released by China Unicom, while responding to the policy orientation, also echoes the above logic to a certain extent. That is, the direction of future development, can not only stick to the traditional sense of a single business data, but should also pay attention to the overall link effect of "Internet of Everything", which is also the ultimate goal of 5G, and even 6G, which is currently under research and development.
