The current situation of Chinese people's sleep: young people stay up late, the old people can't sleep, the police are the most lacking sleep, the boss sleeps soundly

Nearly 3/4 of respondents had trouble sleeping, and difficulty falling asleep became the number one problem. Mobile phones have become sleep killers, and nearly 70% of late sleep is associated with it. On March 17, the "2022 China Healthy Sleep Survey White Paper" (hereinafter referred to as the "White Paper") jointly released by the Chinese Sleep Research Association and others pointed out the above situation. World Sleep Day is coming on March 21, this year's China theme is: "good sleep, healthy peers", the Chinese Sleep Association calls for attention to scientific sleep, pay attention to sleep health.

Nearly 70% of late sleep is related to mobile phones

The white paper covers 31 provinces, municipalities directly under the central government, autonomous regions and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, presenting the sleep status, sleep cognition, sleep needs of Chinese people from different angles, as well as the sleep situation of different regions, ages, genders, incomes and occupations.

Surveys show that nearly 3/4 of people have had sleep troubles, and difficulty falling asleep has become the number one problem. Professor Guo Xiheng, director of the Chinese Sleep Research Association, pointed out in-depth interpretation of the "White Paper" that many people have difficulty falling asleep after playing with mobile phones, or they have difficulty falling asleep and began to play mobile phones. Mobile phones became sleep killers, with 68.9% of late sleep related to it, followed by chasing dramas, reading books, playing games, writing homework or working overtime. Is the mobile phone a pastime artifact when you can't sleep, or is it the culprit that causes late sleep?

For people who do not sleep well at night, lunch break has become an important means of supplementing sleep. According to the White Paper, 77.1% of respondents take a lunch break to catch up on sleep. "The high proportion of lunch breaks may be related to lack of sleep, or it may be related to the slowdown in the pace of life and work caused by the epidemic." Guo Xiheng analysis.

From a geographical point of view, people in first-tier cities sleep the most, with an average sleep time of 23:34 and an average sleep duration of 6.94 hours; second-tier cities sleep the earliest, with an average sleep time of 22:47 and an average sleep duration of more than 7.1 hours. Respondents in Tibet, Xinjiang, Hebei, Inner Mongolia, and Yunnan slept the longest, all of which exceeded 7 hours; respondents in Sichuan, Chongqing, Tibet, Qinghai, and Inner Mongolia had the highest average self-sleep awareness.

The "Stay Up Late Champion" comes from the Youth Category

From the perspective of sleep time, the average sleep time of minors is only 7 hours, and the average sleep time of primary/junior high school students is 7.65/7.48/6.5 hours, respectively. The "Sleep Order" issued by the Ministry of Education in March 2021 (Notice on Further Strengthening the Sleep Management of Primary and Secondary School Students) clearly requires that the sleep time of primary/middle/high school students should reach 10/9/8 hours respectively. However, compared with before the "double reduction policy", 60% of primary and secondary school students have increased their sleep time to varying degrees.

Among 6-18-year-old adolescents, 67.03% of children who sleep less than 8 hours have reached 67.03%, and more than 60% of teenagers use sleep time to play mobile phones, play games and chase dramas. Only 27% of adolescents compress sleep time to write homework and study. "Parents ' chicken baby' do not forget 'chicken sleep', should be more concerned about the child's night activities, timely reminder to supervise the child's bedtime." Guo Xiheng reminded that after the reduction of learning pressure, many students have allocated sleep time to electronic products and entertainment, which have replaced learning pressure as the primary reason for teenagers to sleep late.

In addition, 44% of 19-25-year-olds stay up late until after midnight and are well-deserved "staying up champions". Poor sleep has gradually become a common pain point for young people.

In the analysis of the causes of poor sleep, the 26-45-year-old age group has the highest proportion of poor sleep due to stress, and every two young adults who do not sleep well have one "stress mountain". The impact of sleep environment and bad habits on people's sleep is mainly reflected in the age group of adolescents, and behaviors such as smoking, drinking alcohol, and drinking coffee before going to bed are gradually becoming younger.

The elderly have become the hardest hit groups with difficulty falling asleep and frequent insomnia, with 9.7% of the groups with very poor self-cognitive sleep quality and only 4.2% of young people. The rate of frequent insomnia in the elderly (21%) is significantly higher than that in young people (14%). Why do the elderly sleep badly? Professor Guo Xiheng pointed out that physical health problems, emotions, economic stress and sleep environment have become the first few factors affecting the sleep of the elderly.

The small anchor "volume" is at the forefront

Judging from the relationship between work and sleep, the people's police slept the least enough, accounting for 58% of the respondents who did not sleep well; 69% of doctors got up before 7 o'clock in the morning, of which 49% slept less than 6 hours. Entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs, and self-employed people slept the most, reaching 57%, but the proportion of irregular work and rest also reached 52%.

Teachers' sleep duration and sleep regularity are significantly higher than the overall population, Guo Xiheng said, which shows that the self-discipline of the teacher population is high, and the working hours are relatively fixed. However, the quality of sleep in this group is very poor, and 57% of teachers will spend more than an hour before going to bed on teaching, as the song sings: "Quietly late at night the stars shine, and the teacher's bed is bright all night." The low quality of sleep leads to poor energy in the morning, and hair loss, immunity decline, endocrine disorders caused by sleep problems are the main factors affecting the health of teachers.

In recent years, among the newly emerging anchor professions, small anchors "roll" are at the forefront. Because the golden time is crowded out by the big anchors, the number of fans is small, many small anchors will choose to live broadcast at night, try their luck, increase popularity, their live broadcast time is long, and the proportion of irregular schedules is large.

There is also a special job, that is, epidemic prevention work. Because of the epidemic, more than 60% of the interviewed epidemic prevention personnel slept less than 7 hours, and 59% of the epidemic prevention personnel felt that they did not sleep enough. They sacrificed precious sleep time to protect the health of the public, and they deserve everyone's respect.

Initiative: Sleep priority, regular work and rest

The Chinese Sleep Association issued a healthy sleep initiative to give priority to sleep, and suggested that work be arranged as much as possible during the day, improve work efficiency, and do not sacrifice sleep; regular work and rest, determine the daily work and rest time and strictly implement it to ensure that the sleep period is stable; try to ensure that the night sleep time is long, and when it is insufficient, use lunch break or other ways to make up for it in time; improve sleep quality through moderate and timely exercise, and do not exercise vigorously for 1 hour before going to bed.
