Audi "crock pot" electrocuted, A6 Avant e-tron to be "double-sided champion"

In today's world of electrification, luxury brands are gradually accelerating the layout of the electrification market, forcing new car-making forces to complete the initial market reshuffle. In the process of transformation electrification, Audi is undoubtedly one of the most aggressive.

During the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, Audi unveiled the Audi A6 e-tron concept based on the PPE platform, which represents the future development trend of the Audi brand and will be put into production at the Audi FAW PPE plant in Changchun in the future.

Recently, at the 2022 annual media communication meeting, Audi launched the second concept model of the future A6 e-tron luxury pure electric family: the Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept.

The pure electric design interprets the station wagon concept

Similar to the Audi A6 e-tron concept on display in 2021, the Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept is also a luxury pure electric model based on the forward-looking PPE pure electric platform led by Audi. At the same time, the Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept represents a new design concept for luxury medium and large cars.

On the outside, the front face of the Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept features a fully enclosed Singleframe integrated front grille, the bottom of which is connected to the sides with deep air intakes for cooling the powertrain, battery and braking system. The headlights have a flat design that extends backwards onto the fenders on the side of the car, a transverse design element that also accentuates the vehicle's wide visuals.

The Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept also features dynamic body proportions and lines, with a slowly backward-sloping roof arc connected to the sloping D-pillar to outline the iconic Audi Avant family window design. At the same time, the 4960m × 1960mm × 1440m "three-dimensional", comparable to the existing models of the Audi A6/A7 series, but its drag coefficient value is only 0.24, which can also obtain lower power consumption and longer cruising range.

The aerodynamic modeling above the rear of the car disperses airflow in all directions to reduce air resistance. The rear spoiler with colourful trim visually accentuates the length and horizontal profile of the A6 Avant e-tron concept, while also playing an important role in improving aerodynamics.

It is worth mentioning that the audi A6 Avant e-tron concept's newly designed flat headlights and slender taillights are perfectly integrated with the body lines. Thanks to the application of digital matrix LED technology and digital OLED technology, even the smallest surfaces can achieve maximum brightness and various features, and at the same time provide customized light characteristics to choose from.

The PPE platform is blessed with a 700km battery life

The PPE platform used in the A6 Avant e-tron concept is a platform designed for all-electric models and is the first to accommodate production models that include SUVs and CUV with high ground clearance, as well as Audi's core sedan and station wagon product families.

Taking the A6 Avant e-tron concept as an example, it is equipped with a battery pack of about 100kWh and is flattened on the bottom of the body, without changing the basic configuration, it can make full use of the technical advantages of the pure electric platform, which can create a model with high ground clearance and is suitable for vehicles with obvious dynamic body and chassis flat structure.

It is understood that the Audi A6 e-tron concept has two motors with a total output of 350kW and a maximum torque of 800Nm. Entry-level models accelerate to less than 7 seconds from 100 km/h, while high-performance models reduce time to less than 4 seconds. The maximum cruising range will exceed 700 km.

At the same time, the Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept features a five-link structure optimized for electric vehicles at the front, a multi-link bridging at the rear, and an Audi air suspension with adaptive damping control. In addition, with the blessing of the 800V fast charging technology of the PPE platform, the new car is charged for 10 minutes, which is enough to travel more than 300 kilometers. And its 100kWh battery takes less than 25 minutes to charge from 5% to 80% charge.

In addition, the battery size and wheelbase of models built on the PPE platform are expandable to suit different market segments. In the future, all models built on the PPE platform will be able to experience the high-quality driving experience brought by the ultra-long wheelbase. Therefore, the Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept can also bring a "fish and bear's paw" experience in terms of space and endurance.

summary:

In the "Vorsprung 2030" strategy released by Audi, it has been clearly stated that from 2026 onwards, its new models for the world will be pure electric models. And by 2033, gradually stop the production of internal combustion engines. Among them, as Audi's largest overseas single market, China will also occupy an important dominant position.

At present, FAW-Volkswagen Audi is practicing the "All in e-tron" electric mobility commitment through a richer series of pure electric products. According to the plan, in 2024, the Audi FAW PPE plant in Changchun will be officially put into operation, and the plant will first put into production three models, including a pure electric SUV and a pure electric sedan. At that time, the arrival of more new models will also help the Audi brand to bring more surprises to Chinese consumers in the increasingly fierce electrification competition.
