Yin Tongyue: Accelerate the negotiation of free trade agreements with relevant countries to provide trade facilitation for Chinese car companies to go global

In 2021, China's automobile exports exceeded 2 million units, an increase of up to 101%, achieving a historic leap and entering a new stage of global development. With the continuous improvement of China's automotive technology and R&D capabilities, the performance and quality of China's automotive products are gradually similar to those of Japan and South Korea, the main competitors in the international market, but because the Japanese and South Korean governments have signed free trade agreements in the countries where China's major overseas auto markets are located, Japanese and Korean auto companies enjoy more preferential policies, making Chinese auto brands in an unequal position in market competition. For example, in Chile, which has signed free trade agreements with China, Japan and South Korea, Chinese brand car sales have accounted for nearly 25% of the entire automobile market, and many products have entered the top 10 sales, and the conclusion of the free trade agreement will undoubtedly provide better policy support for enterprises to go global.

In order to protect the exports of Chinese enterprises and enhance their international competitiveness, Yin Tongyue, deputy to the National People's Congress, secretary of the party committee and chairman of Chery Automobile Co., Ltd., submitted a proposal to "Accelerate negotiations on free trade agreements with relevant countries and provide trade facilitation for Chinese car companies to go global" at the two sessions of the National People's Congress in 2022.

Deputy Yin Tongyue's specific proposal is as follows:

It is recommended that the Ministry of Commerce speed up the comparison of the auto tariff policies of Japan, South Korea and other countries, accelerate the signing of trade agreements or customs alliances with countries and regions where China's major auto export markets are located, and formulate tariff policies involving automobiles.

Accelerate the conclusion of free trade agreements with the Latin American Common Market for the South (SADC), Mexico, South Africa and European countries to reduce tariffs.

Second, promote the second phase of negotiations with countries that have signed free trade agreements, and accelerate the process of mutual reduction of tariffs on auto products.

From the beginning of its establishment, Chery has established the goal of "building a world-class brand" and adhered to the strategy of "no internal instability, no external strength". Chery, which has been abroad for 20 years, has also accompanied China in accelerating the pace of high-level opening up and handed over an excellent answer sheet for globalization.

In just one year of 2021, Chery Group's exports exceeded the 20,000-vehicle mark eight times in a single month, and the export of single-month exports in December exceeded 30,000 vehicles in a historic period, with 31,253 vehicles in a single month, an increase of 126.7% year-on-year, promoting the new "coordinates" of 270,000 vehicles adjacent to the annual export. In January 2022, Chery continued to export 26,900 units, an increase of 60.9% year-on-year.

Chery, which has accelerated the pace of internationalization, also received a special New Year "opening gift" - on February 8, Chery's "global car" OMODA 5 ushered in the first car off the production line in Wuhu. OMODA 5 fully meets the highest five-star standards of the global new car safety evaluation (NCAP), including China, the European Union, Australia, Central and South America, Southeast Asia, etc., reflecting Chery's new ideas of developing products and innovating business models with "user thinking + Internet thinking". OMODA 5 plans to be listed in overseas markets for the first time in the first half of this year, and the first wave will be listed in more than 30 countries and regions around the world, such as Russia, South Africa, Chile, etc., and then further exported to the European Union, Australia, New Zealand and other newly expanded overseas markets.

Chery, which "sails out to sea", adds an overseas user every 2 minutes on average, and in the 20 years of internationalization, it has explored the "three-step" model from product "going out" to factory and culture "going in" to brand "going up", realizing the "structural transformation" of global development, and increasing sales and market share in key markets.

At the same time, Chery is accelerating its global market layout, including building a globally integrated R&D system and sales service system to support the localized operation of Chery products in the global mainstream market.

Up to now, Chery Group has more than 10 million users worldwide, including 1.95 million overseas users. In the "2020 Overseas Image Survey Report of Chinese Enterprises "Belt and Road" Edition", Chery ranked ninth in the industry and first in the automotive industry. Chery has ranked first in the export of Chinese brand passenger cars for 19 consecutive years, and has won the "Top 20 Overseas Images of Chinese Enterprises" selected by the Information Office of the State Council for five consecutive years, becoming a shining business card for Chinese automobiles to go global.
