I have complained before that Volkswagen's domestic ID.4 and ID.6 are not much like an electric vehicle, while the domestic ID.3 of the same platform has been available for some time, and from the perspective of size, it is positioned in a smaller car, from the appearance, it is also in line with some trends in electric cars. So this European new energy sales crown, looks more like the ID.3 of the electric car, is there a bright place? How is it different from the electric car Dolphin and Euler launched by our own brand?
As the first electric vehicle designed by the MEB platform, the ID.3 has no continuity with the INTERIOR and exterior style compared to ID.4 & ID.6. The ID.3 configuration version of this release is relatively simple, the official is divided into Pure Pure Edition, Pro Extreme Wisdom Edition, 1st Edition Initial Edition three configurations, this time I experienced this called Pure Edition, also belongs to the lowest configuration of the three, there is also a Pure logo on the fender.
The front face of the ID.3 is different from the design of a regular car. It is divided into three parts on the hood, rather than the conventional monolithic. The top position close to the wiper's sink is a black high-gloss plastic piece, and the plane is above the hood, not too understanding what the creative source of this design is. Only the middle one is made of metal, and the bottom near the logo is a plastic decorative panel. In this arrangement, the area of the middle piece is actually very small, and under the conditions of existing technology, the middle piece can also be developed using plastic.
The area of the strip on the left and right sides of the ID3 Logo is very narrow, and the characteristics connected to the headlights are not very smooth, leaving a large gap and gap.
The side door of the ID.3 does not use a hidden door handle like the dolphin in the same car, but still uses a traditional door handle.
If it is a high-end version, the wheel hub is very personal, and it can be seen from here that the ID.3 is finally designed to be a bit like an electric car, and the tire size has reached an amazing R20. Of course, the low-end is still the R18 tire with a slightly more ordinary shape. In addition, the rear brake of the ID.3 still uses the drum brake of the previous ID series.
The ID.3's D pillar, which neither uses two colors like the previous ID series, nor is it blackened like the BYD Dolphin, but only embellished with some gradient hexagonal silver spots on the surface.
The tailgate of the ID.3 is completely blackened, but the tailgate is completely unethered, just like the configuration of the Euler Good Cat and BYD Dolphin. The opening mechanism of ID.3 is the same as many Volkswagen models, and it is also hidden in the circular LOGO, first press one end with your finger, and then lift it vigorously after the other end is opened, which feels a bit similar to the principle of Tesla opening the side door.
The spoiler area at the tail is designed to be very large.
ID.3 still uses the ID series of family-style instrument combinations, and the small shape looks more compatible with the ID.3 car, that is, the expression of the phrase "welcome driver" in the boot language is too blunt.
The ID.3 low-end steering wheel is only made of plastic, but it can be optionally equipped with high-grade leather. In contrast, the high match between Euler's good cat and BYD dolphin is only a steering wheel with imitation skin. ID.3 There are three colors in the direction of id.3: light blue, red, and galvanized silver. The light blue color echoes a piece of blue material above the dashboard, and the electroplated silver is also a common decoration on the steering wheel of the car, but I don't understand what the idea of this red with this gray interior is.
Like the previous ID series, although id.3 does not use the key to ignite, it still designs an IGNITE/STOP switch on the steering column, but the upper and lower covers of this steering tube column are very strange, using different textures.
From this point of view, there used to be a large color aberration.
Because the drapery in front of the windshield is designed to be relatively high, even if the seat is adjusted to the highest, it still feels a little blocking the driving view.
The ID.3 still borrows the new combination headlight switch used before the ID series, but the position is raised to the top of the air outlet, which is more convenient to operate, and the ID.4 & ID.6 is placed below the air outlet.
The central control large screen is also borrowed from the large screen of the previous ID series, but it is a bit old-fashioned with the ID.3 playful style car, but there is a porcelain white color interior in the configuration, and the large screen also uses a porcelain white border, which looks better.
The hypotenuse of the triangular window is relatively long, and the A-pillar is relatively narrow, but the side close to the rearview mirror is relatively thick, and the slope of the A-pillar is relatively large, and the actual effective field of view when driving is not too large.
The glove box uses a hidden opening handle, and like many models, the surface does not use the same pattern as the outer cover plate, which looks strange.
Because the gear shift button is still arranged on the instrument cluster, so the sub-dashboard is full of storage space, even if the sub-dashboard is designed to be relatively narrow, the storage capacity is still no problem, but the height of the storage space is relatively low, and it is slightly more difficult to take items. In addition to the two cup holders in the front longitudinal position, there is also a variable storage compartment in the middle, and the partition in the middle is active to hold items such as mobile phones.
The rear storage box has a roller shutter door and also has a detachable partition inside so that the storage space can be varied.
At the very front of the sub-dashboard there is a net pocket where you can put items such as mobile phones.
The ID.3's sub-dashboard is not designed with full-size armrests, but only a support elbow is attached to the side of the seat, which can be stowed and lowered. From this point of view, it is somewhat similar to the Odyssey.
The two letters of the ID are stamped on the front seats by punching holes, and the previous Crozz series was molded up. The seats are standard with this large-area fabric with a small area of imitation leather material, and the seam is irregular folding.
Volkswagen is now this kind of two-sided wrapped seat, but the flank of the cushion is relatively hard, when you get off the car to move in the direction of the door, you will sit on this flank, it is easy to lift people up, and your legs cannot touch the ground at one time.
The arrangement of the short front suspension and long wheelbase makes the wheel arch floor in front of the occupant side steeper, and the legs are not too comfortable to put here after straightening, unlike the position of the dolphin.
There are 860×740 non-open panoramic sunroofs on the top, and low-end can also be added to the money option. The area reaches 0.64 square meters, which is larger than the dolphin area, and the dolphin low-end does not provide a panoramic skylight configuration, and the euler good cat's high-end is only a small skylight.
Although it was a small car, the rear window had a very good view. The door panels are made of plastic, and since the front door needs to be connected to the drapery of the dashboard, a diagonal shape is designed in the position of the inner opening handle, and the rear door also replicates this feature. The position of the inner opening handle of the conventional car is embedded in the door panel, ID.3 Because of this special modeling line, the inner opening handle looks higher than the door panel plane in the Y direction.
The armrests of the door panels are clad in fabric of the same material and color as the seats.
The ID.3's rear seats are equipped with high-end models with armrests and cup holders, which is stronger than the Dolphin, which does not have this feature in the entire rear row. The center of the rear seat of the ID.3 foam hardness is soft and hard, and many cars only focus on the two sides, ignoring the feeling of this position.
Due to the arrangement of the long wheelbase, when there is a lot of space in the front row, the rear seating space is still very large, and there is no need to worry about the space of the car will be small. However, there is no storage space on the back of the front seats, which is not as good as the dolphin.
The height and width of the rear seats are suitable, and the thighs can be well supported when sitting on the 172cm height.
The material in the trunk is relatively simple, but the space is relatively large, and it can reach 385L before it is expanded in the rear row, which is larger than dolphins and good cats, especially good cats are only 228L. The rear row of the ID.3 can also be put down in a 4:6 ratio, but the expanded ID.3 does not have as much space as the dolphins.
The trunk has a coat rack that moves with the tailgate, but the fixing is not very secure, and it falls off with a little force.
There was no separate handle on the floor, just a slit cut enough for the hand to reach in and grab. The side of the ID.3 trunk sill towards the inside of the car is not flush with the floor, but has a forward bump, so the floor must be made thin and soft, and this bulge can be avoided when lifted upwards.
The bottom layer of the trunk is the same as the previous ID series, and the sheet metal is directly exposed after the bottom plate is pulled open.
We see that in the current market, EVEN the minimum configuration of ID.3 is more than 150,000 yuan, which is far more expensive than BYD Dolphin and Euler Good Cat. Even if the highest 500 km long endurance version of the good cat is only 143,900, the low version of the ID.3 is only 430 km endurance.
Of course, ID.3 is higher than dolphins and good cats in many configurations, such as id.3's rear suspension is multi-link independent suspension, while good cats and dolphins are only non-independent suspension; ID.3 steering wheel can provide heating; The car machine provides CarPlay and CarLife interconnection functions; the charging interface provides a Type-c interface, the trunk has a 12V power supply; the cockpit is equipped with mood lights and purifiers, the rear windshield has a rear wiper, the water spray nozzle can also be heated, and the air conditioning temperature can be zoned and controlled, which is not good for cats and dolphins, and ID.3 is slightly higher in comfort. But on the other hand, ID.3 lacks an automatic parking system, a built-in dashcam, a wireless charger for mobile phones, OTA upgrades, ultrasonic and millimeter-wave radars compared to good cats and dolphins, and is much inferior in terms of intelligence, canceling out the two phases.
Judging from the latest sales statistics in January, Dolphin sold 10,000+, good cats are 8,000+, id3 is only 1,000+, and the gap with competitors is too big. If ID.3 can reduce the price to the range of 100,000-150,000 yuan, will it be better?
Overall, the ID.3 is the first electric vehicle designed by the MEB platform, only after the LAUNCH of ID.4 and ID.6 in China, but it is more personalized and more like an electric vehicle than the previous ID.4 and ID.6 design, and it also proves that Volkswagen is moving in the right direction on the road to electrification. However, it is almost impossible to achieve its position in the Chinese market in Europe - not only because of price factors, but also because of the timing of the launch, in the field of small cars, it is now basically divided by Wuling Hongguang, BYD, Great Wall, etc. The market is still a long way to go.
