Core Qing Technology has received hundreds of millions of yuan of investment!
Chedong March 9 news, recently automotive chip company Core Engine Technology announced that it has received hundreds of millions of yuan of strategic investment from China FAW Group Co., Ltd. It is reported that the funds will be used for the research and development and deployment of more advanced chips.
Core Engine Technology and FAW will cooperate with FAW in the field of vehicle specification-level and high-computing power chips to enhance the independent innovation of FAW Group's brand cars in the fields of intelligent cockpit and automatic driving, and jointly promote the localization process of automotive chips.
In December last year, Core Engine Technology released the first 7nm vehicle specification class cockpit chip "Dragon Eagle One" in China, filling the gap of the domestic 7nm vehicle specification chip. The investment from FAW will also accelerate the further development of Core Engine Technology.
First, the performance of the benchmark Qualcomm flagship Mass production in the third quarter of this year
Core Engine Technology can get the help of FAW, which is inseparable from its advantages in the field of automotive chips.
The "Dragon Eagle One" chip of Core Engine Technology adopts a 7nm process, with a chip area of only 83 square millimeters, integrated 87 layers of circuitry, and 8.8 billion transistors.
This 7nm SoC is to benchmark Qualcomm's 8155 chip in an all-round way. The CPU computing power of "Dragon Eagle One" can reach 90~100K DMIPS, GPU computing power of 900+ GFLOPS, and NPU computing power of 8TOPS. In addition, there are display processor VPU, DDR5 memory, PCIe 3.0 channels, UFS storage, and DSP processors.
The CPU of "Dragon Eagle One" adopts the Arm Cortex-A76 core, which has strong integer and floating-point performance, which can help improve the overall performance of machine learning. In addition, higher frequencies enable computation with a very good performance ratio.
The GPU part adopts a multi-core strategy, which improves the efficiency of microarchitecture and configures large-capacity caches. At the same clock speed, floating-point operations, textures, and pixel throughput are all better improved.
Performance parameters of Eagle One
In addition, the "Dragon Eagle One" is also equipped with a display processing unit (VPU), which can reduce the workload of the GPU by performing image processing tasks such as superposition, rotation, and high-quality scaling in fixed function hardware, and the image display will be more gorgeous.
In terms of AI performance, the "Dragon Eagle One" dedicated AI processor adopts a instruction set suitable for AI algorithms, and can realize the combined operation of complex networks through instruction-driven vector processing units and fixed AI algorithm processing units. For example, road signs and traffic signs can be efficiently identified in AR navigation, and object separation operations can be effectively and accurately realized.
Dr. Wang Kai, CEO of Core Qing Technology, once revealed that after the success of the "Dragon Eagle One" tape-out, it will continue to do performance optimization and security and stability verification. In the third quarter of this year, the "Dragon Eagle One" will achieve mass production.
At present, Core Engine Technology is stepping up cooperation with domestic car companies and Tier 1 suppliers to complete the testing and integration of different models to prepare for mass production on the car.
In terms of future product planning, Core Engine Technology has now begun the research and development of the "Dragon Eagle II" chip.
Second, the core team has rich experience In the R&D center according to the division of labor according to its strengths
Founded in 2018, Core Engine Technology focuses on the design, development and sales of advanced automotive electronic chips, with the development mission of "let everyone enjoy the joy of driving", and is committed to becoming the world's leading provider of high-end processors for automotive electronics.
Most of the R&D personnel in the team have R&D experience in Domestic and foreign head chip companies such as Freescale, AMD, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, Renesas Electronics, HiSilicon, and ZhanRui. Before joining Core Engine Technology, many R&D personnel have 10 to 15 years of R&D experience in the chip industry.
Dr. Kai Wang, CEO of Core Engine Technology, joined Core Core Technology in April 2019. Prior to joining CoreTek, Dr. Wang was the CEO of Huaxintong Semiconductor, vice president of sales of SanDisk Asia Pacific, vice president of sales and marketing of Freescale semiconductors and general manager of Asia Pacific, and has been engaged in research and development in the chip industry for nearly 30 years.
Dr. Kai Wang, CEO of CoreTek
With a team with both high-end server chip and traditional automotive chip development experience and mass production cases, CoreTek can provide all core processor chips from traditional automotive electronic architecture to next-generation intelligent connected automotive electronic architecture.
At present, Core Engine Technology has set up R&D centers in Wuhan, Beijing, Shanghai and the United States. Dr. Wang Kai introduced that several R&D centers are divided according to the characteristics and expertise of talents, and have software and hardware teams. Among them, there are hundreds of R&D personnel in the R&D centers in Beijing and Shanghai, and 60 or 70 people in the Wuhan R&D center.
Conclusion: Domestic automotive chips accelerate towards advanced processes
In the tide of smart cars, car companies have recognized the importance of software and services, but hardware is also an important part. In 2019, Tesla launched the self-developed self-developed self-driving computer Hardware 3.0, which is still the head of the automotive industry' autopilot hardware, and can also achieve more autonomous driving functions.
In recent years, the domestic chip industry has suffered setbacks, and it is also giving birth to a number of new forces in automotive chips. In addition to Core Engine Technology, chip companies such as Horizon, Black Sesame Intelligence, and Chip Technology are also bringing smart cockpit, automatic driving, and central gateway chips to the automotive industry. The domestic automotive chip industry is moving step by step towards advanced processes, and the dream of making cores is gradually being realized.
