Among the many "women's book lists" in March, I would like to read Mr. Ye Jiaying

Qianjiang Evening News Hourly News Reporter Sun Wen

Among the various "women's book lists" in March, two books about Mr. Ye Jiaying are particularly eye-catching.

One is "Calling Me for Lotus Flowers— Ye Jiaying in Nankai" by the China Encyclopedia Publishing House, and the other is "Me and My Aunt Ye Jiaying" by the People's Publishing House.

Born in 1924, Mr. Ye Jiaying is a scholar of classical Chinese poetry. Since 1966, Ms. Ye has been invited as a visiting professor and visiting professor by Harvard University, Yale University, Columbia University, University of Michigan, and university of Minnesota. Since 1979, she has returned to China to teach every year, and has been invited to teach classical Chinese poetry in more than 40 domestic colleges and universities such as Peking University and Nankai University.

Mr. Ye Jiaying, who is about to celebrate her 98th birthday, has inherited classical Chinese poetry for nearly 80 years and set up Nankai University for more than 40 years.

On October 19, 2019, during the centennial celebration of Nankai University, a group of students from the 1982 class of the Chinese Department visited Mr. Ye Jiaying. Mr. Li reminisced about the past of teaching in Nankai for forty years, and the teachers and students talked happily. Finally, she said with great anticipation: "Give me a book that I am lecturing in Nankai." ”

The compilation of "For the Lotus Flower to Call Me--Ye Jiaying in Nankai" moved here.

China Encyclopedia Press

Today, when I open this book, I can read the origin of this book in the editor's epilogue "Under the Inspiration of Mr. Gentleman".

"It is not easy to publish a serious book, it is not easy to publish a book to a beloved predecessor, and it is especially difficult to publish a book to a famous teacher who is rich in five cars and famous at home and abroad." For editors, this is a new challenge and a major issue.

Under the leadership of Mr. Ye Jiaying's "My Karma with Lotus and Nankai", the oldest author of this book is nearly ninety years old, and the youngest is only in his early twenties. Among them are scholars and professors who specialize in classical Chinese poetry, "Ye Fan" who listened to Mr. Ye's poetry lectures and followed them for many years, the first batch of Nankai students who resumed college entrance examination after the "Cultural Revolution", assistants and teachers who worked in Mr. Ye's Institute of Chinese Classical Culture, and masters and doctors who graduated from the school after graduation.

The editors went through repeated screening, editing, deletion and other processes. Inspired by Mr. Ye's poetry, the whole book divides the main chapters with four sentences: "The guest first came from the sea", "Who knows that scattered trees have hometown roots", "The karma of the master and disciple exceeds the flesh and bones", and "the weak virtue persists in not returning", reflecting that Mr. Ye is engaged in chinese classical poetry education, especially in the teaching, research and creative career of Nankai for more than 40 years, so that Mr. Wang's career context, academic achievements and personality charm are more clearly presented to the reader.

Mr. Ye once said: "Only returning to China to teach is my only choice, my own choice for the rest of my life." From the book "Calling Me for the Lotus Flower-Ye Jiaying in Nankai", we can read Mr. Wang's persistence in this choice.

In "For the Lotus Flower To Call Me -- Ye Jiaying in Nankai" there is an article "Me and My Aunt Ye Jiaying", and recently, this long article has also been expanded into a book published by the People's Publishing House, and its author Ye Yancai is the nephew of Mr. Ye Jiaying.

"Me and My Aunt Ye Jiaying" not only vividly recreates the ye family and the old residence of Chayuan Hutong, where Mr. Ye Jiaying grew up in Si and yongming in his heart, but also recalls the cherished memories of Mr. Ye Jiaying's return to China and his family when he was a teenager and traveled to lecture in various parts of the motherland, but also tells the intimate friends of Mr. Ye Jiaying and many teachers and friends at home and abroad, including Chen Shengsheng, Yang Zhenning, Li Jiye, Lu Zongda, Xia Chengtao, Miao Yu, Deng Guangming, Chen Yixuan, Feng Qiyong, Shi Shuqing, Yoshikawa Kojiro, Okamura Fan... ...

In the preface to "Me and My Aunt Ye Jiaying", Mr. Ye Jiaying said that Ye Yancai was quick in his thinking and had a wide range of insights, and as soon as he wrote it, he could not stop himself and sprinkled with foreign emotions, "He seriously and diligently supplemented some of my previous accounts with his memories, and these narratives about people and events made me extremely moved." ”

In fact, there are many books worth reading about Mr. Ye Jiaying's life, such as "My Poetry and Life in the Vicissitudes of the Sea", "Scenery Once Knew Ye Jiaying on Poetry" (Guangxi Normal University Press), "Red Lotus Dreams, Ye Jiaying On Poetry Memories" (Life, Reading, Xinzhi Triptych Bookstore), "For the Lotus Flower To Call Me - Ye Jiaying in Nankai" and "I and My Aunt Ye Jiaying", which tell many important life courses of Mr. Ye Jiaying from the perspective of others. Including the book of the same name for the literary documentary film "The Moon in hand", it is also listed here.

In June 2018, at the Jialing Academy of Nankai University, I had the privilege of listening to Mr. Ye's poetry and click to view relevant reports, about her life, her works related to poetry, need to be read slowly.

The most important thing in learning poetry is to learn to be a person

□ Zhang Yuanxin

It is my great fortune to be able to become Teacher Ye's "closed disciple". Teacher Ye has a deep relationship with our family. When my maternal grandparents compiled the Complete Collection of Chinese Flower Poems in Past Dynasties, Mr. Miao Yu of Sichuan University sent some of her poems to her grandparents in Guangzhou at that time, and finally included them in the collection. When I was nine years old, I once saw an interview with Everyone on satellite TV at home. Each issue of "Everyone" will introduce a "everyone" who has made outstanding contributions in a certain field, and that issue is just about the life of Teacher Ye. After I saw it, I thought Teacher Ye was so great! One of the words that struck me the most at the time was: "If I'm going to fall, I'm going to fall on the podium." What kind of belief can make Teacher Ye willing to fall on the podium and dedicate her life to poetry? I solemnly told my maternal grandparents and told my mother that I wanted to study with Teacher Ye.

At that time, my grandmother and I each wrote a letter to Send to Teacher Ye, but I didn't expect Teacher Ye to really reply. She said in the letter: "It is very rare for Yuan Xin to love poetry so much, and his works are also considerable, but it is a pity that he has not learned the rhythm. If I have the opportunity to meet, I can talk to her in person. "In the spring of 2009, the most beautiful cherry blossom season in Vancouver, my mother took me and my sister to see Mr. Ye for the first time. That afternoon, we met Mr. Ye in the reading room on the second floor of the Asian Library at the University of British Columbia.

At first, I thought that Teacher Ye would be a very serious person, a little afraid. After meeting, I found out that Teacher Ye was a kind and lovely grandmother. She taught us the law on the first day, she first taught the ping, on a piece of paper with a horizontal line to represent the flat, with a vertical line to represent the servant. She taught us how to raise a five-word poem and how to write a poem; how to write a seven-word poem; and said that a flat poem is not rigid, and it is difficult to write a good poem if it is memorized by rote.

Teacher Ye taught us that to make our poems conform to the level, we must learn to recite. After teaching Ping Shu, she also personally taught us to recite several poems, and the first poem she taught us to recite was Wang Zhizhuo's "Liangzhou Words".

On the evening of the first time I went to Vancouver to meet Mr. Ye, Mr. Ye also invited us to have dinner with Mr. Shi Shuyi and Mr. Tao Yongqiang. Later, on the way back to the hotel, Mr. Tao heard his mother say that we were specially from New York to Vancouver to meet Teacher Ye, and she was very surprised, saying that it was rare for us to be so sincere. After Lawyer Tao returned home, he told Teacher Shi about our special trip to visit the teacher, and Teacher Shi relayed it to Teacher Ye. That evening, we received a call from Teacher Ye and asked us to go to Zhongshan Park in Vancouver the next day to admire the plums.

On that day, the light rain was sparse and slightly chilly, and Teacher Ye took my sister and me by the hand and roamed the park. Whenever we encounter a couplet, Teacher Ye will teach us to read and explain the meaning. Many of those couplets were written by Teacher Ye and written by Teacher Xie Yan. Along the way, when we saw the tender green new willows, or the magnolias on the trees, or the square pond in front of the pavilion, Teacher Ye would let us recite the corresponding ancient poems. Teacher Shi walked behind and said to his mother, "You see how happy Teacher Ye is today, the three of them are really happy together!" ”

Looking back now, it should have been Teacher Ye's exam for us that day. A few days later, my mother took us with us to formally perform the prayer ceremony to Teacher Ye at the office of Teacher Ye of the Asian Library of the University of British Columbia.

I was eleven and my sister was nine. Teacher Ye told us that when she was a child, she also performed the worship service. Teacher Ye's respect for the teacher has always been one of the qualities we most admire. She had been displaced all her life, and everything had been lost, but none of the eight notebooks she had recorded Mr. Gu Sui's lectures had been lost. Later, Mr. Ye also found Mr. Gu's daughter and instructed her to organize it and then officially publish it.

In the summer of 2009, we went to Vancouver for the second time, during which we had the privilege of going on a vacation to Whistler Mountain with Ms. Ye. Those days, we lived in a room with Teacher Ye, and my sister and I slept on the sofa bed in the living room, and she lived in the bedroom. Teacher Ye was worried that we would not sleep well at night and got up to take care of us. In the middle of the blindness, she saw Teacher Ye come out and cover us with a quilt before she went back. After so many years of teacher-student relationship, she actually treated us as her granddaughters.

When we were in Vancouver, we would go to the University of British Columbia Asian Library every day to read books, and at 12:30 noon, Mr. Ye would go to dinner on time. My sister's ears are very good, she heard the sound of Teacher Ye walking and knew that Teacher Ye was coming, and we would run over to help her go downstairs together.

Every day, Mr. Ye carries a very simple sandwich and a small box with hot broccoli, carrots, small oranges, and sometimes small tomatoes. Her lunch was very simple, and we brought sandwiches with us. It's wonderful to look back on those days now.

When Teacher Ye was eating lunch, he would give us poetry, teach us to chant, talk about the life of a poet, and tell us the truth of learning poetry and being a person. One day she told us about two and a half Chinese poets, Qu Yuan, Tao Yuanming, and half Du Fu. Why is Du Fu half? Because Du Fu said that "words are not surprising and endless", it shows that he still has the heart to compare with others. The highest state of life is not to compare with others and realize the value of your heart. This is the "inner clarity" that traditional Chinese culture has always emphasized: "there is no seeking outside, but seeking the heart".

This realm corresponds to the Western philosopher Maslow's theory of needs. He proposed that there are seven levels of need in life, the highest of which is selfactualization. At that time, Teacher Ye took out a pen and wrote us selfactualization on a napkin. She said that Tao Yuanming's poems "after a thousand years, a hundred articles exist, and not a single word is not innocent." Tao Yuanming did not write poetry for the sake of writing poetry, he was directly lyrical, he wrote whatever he wanted in his heart, and he never had the heart to compare with anyone. He let the truth be poor and embrace purity to the end, such a poet, such a character is what we modern people should learn. I have always treasured The napkin that Teacher Ye has written with self-actualization.

Teacher Ye's words planted a seed in my heart, that is, the most important thing in learning poetry is to learn to be a person. Through poetry, we can feel the noble character and cultivation of the ancients, feel their perseverance in the face of life's difficulties, and feel their spirit of dedicating everything for the ideal.

Mr. Yang Zhenning

□ Ye Yancai

As far as I know, Mr. Ye and Mr. Yang have never had the opportunity to meet, but they have long admired Mr. Yang's name. In the autumn and winter of 1991, Mr. Yang came to Nankai, and when he heard that Mr. Ye was also in Nankai, he asked the director of the Foreign Affairs Office to introduce him. Director Kui called Mr. Ye first, is it convenient to inquire? Then accompanied Mr. Yang to the room of the expert Mr. Lou Ye to visit, and the two people finally met. Listening to my aunt, I said: At that time, there was no tea in the room to entertain Mr. Yang, so I had to pour Mr. Yang a cup of "hawthorn water" that he boiled himself. Mr. Yang said that he had read Mr. Ye's writings and poems... The two people talked freely for a long time.

Subsequently, as Mr. Yang's birthday approached, Mr. Yang specially invited Mr. Ye to attend the "Birthday Party". Mr. Ye then made four poems and sent them to Mr. Yang to express his congratulations. On June 9, 1992, Director Kui held a large-scale celebration party for Mr. Yang's 70th birthday. At the meeting, Mr. Yang brought the four poems that Mr. Ye had given him, and had asked someone to write them down with a brush, and insisted on inviting Mr. Ye to speak a few words on stage. At that time, Mr. Ye said: The people who came to mr. Yang Zhenning's "birthday party" today are all physicists, there are Mr. Yang's classmates, colleagues, and fellow scholars, and I am a student Chinese, but I can recognize a "semi-identical" relationship with Mr. Yang, because the Chongde School I went to and the Duzhi School I went to were run by the same church, it was a brother and sister school, the boys' school was called "Chongde", the girls' school was called "Duzhi", and when he went to Chongde School, it was when I went to Duzhi School.

The four poems written by Mr. Ye for Mr. Yang are as follows:

"Professor Yang Zhenning's 70th Birthday Mouth Occupies the Four Chapters of The Blessing"

Thirty-five years ago, he looked up to the great name, and was collectively called Hua Yan out of Haoying. Extraordinary wisdom through the heavens, mysterious reasoning is not conserved.

I remember that the guests came to me and met in Nankai every year. There was no tea wine for talking, but the hawthorn water was a cup.

Only those who speak differently and rationally can understand this meaning. Hui I jia edited the exhibition and read, and the knowledge of the knowledge saw the high wind.

The first time I was happy to meet the seventyth anniversary, huatang Doshi Shousi people. I am ashamed that the feast has nothing to offer, and the chat will be short sentences to wish Changchun.

In the past, I only heard that my aunt and Mr. Yang knew each other, and said more than once that "Mr. Yang's old liberal arts skills are very good." I think that Mr. Yang, as a world-famous physicist, can love classical poetry so much, which is really an example for contemporary natural science researchers, and I have always admired it in my heart and have always looked forward to the opportunity to meet him.

On October 21, 2004, Nankai University celebrated Mr. Ye's 80th birthday, and Mr. Chen Shengshen, Mr. Feng Qiyong, Mr. Wen Huaisha and other people from all walks of life attended to celebrate the birthday, and of course, Mr. Yang also came. But Mr. Yang had arrived the afternoon before and was interviewed by the host of Beijing Television with Mr. Ye, and the two of them had a very historic dialogue on whether science and engineering people should also learn classical Chinese poetry. In the dialogue, Mr. Yang also said that he was studying the I Ching, believing that it influenced the thinking of Chinese, summarizing all complex things as simple, which is completely different from the Western deductive thinking of refining seemingly simple things into complex...

Not only me was there, but also my classmates Fu Qiushuang and Zhang Li, as well as Zhang Li's wife, Ding Lingqing.

At the end of December 2008, Mr. Yang invited Mr. Ye to his home and then went to tsinghuayuan "Asuo" restaurant for lunch. I happened to be in Beijing at that time, and my aunt took me with me. On that day, at the beginning of the winter snow, the Tsinghua campus was white, looking extremely elegant and clean, which was the first time in my life that I had entered Tsinghua.
