Centennial Winter Olympics, what do you know?

Where is Chamonix? A small town in France. The town now has fewer than 8,000 people, and probably even fewer in 1924. The town of Chamonix has 16 natural villages that hosted more than 200 athletes from 16 countries that year – the first Winter Olympics.

The historical sleigh has skated for nearly a hundred years (98 years), the Winter Olympics have reached its 24th session, Beijing is about to become the city of the Double Olympics, and there will be more than 100 participating countries...

For nearly a hundred years, athletes have passionately pursued the Olympic spirit of "faster, higher and stronger" in the ice and snow, and oh, this year has also added "more unity"!

According to the habits of the global village, 100 years should be summed up a little!

For example, the book reviews the arduous process of the birth of Chinese's first Winter Olympic gold medal. Yang Yang was born in 1975 in Heilongjiang Province, northeast China, and is known as the land of ice and snow. She has been called "Ice Heart" by her family since she was a child and seems destined to become a skater. At the age of 8, an amateur sports school teacher in her hometown discovered her talent in ice and snow sports and began her life's journey on ice. Yang Yang made his Olympic debut at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano. As a talented and hard-working athlete, she has high expectations for her performance on the track. However, during the 1998 Winter Olympics, the only medal she won was a silver medal in the 3,000-meter relay. This result is very bad for Yang Yang, because she has spent almost all her time on the training ground, and the goal is to win the gold medal. Yang Yang even considered quitting the sport, but she eventually regained her confidence and continued her skating journey.

The memory of the Nagano Winter Olympics is very painful for Yang Yang, but she found a glimmer of hope from that experience. Subsequently, her progress in technology and strength surprised even herself. She began to have new expectations for her new self, hoping to perform better at the next Olympic Games, and never lowered her requirements for herself. During the Olympic cycle, Yang Yang swept the World Championships and World Cup venues in the preparation for the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, winning gold medals in almost all individual events. On February 16, 2002, Yang Yang won the women's 500m short track speed skating final at the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. This is the first Winter Olympic gold medal in the history of Chinese sports. A few days later, she won another gold medal in the 1,000m event, becoming the first short-track speed skater to win two individual gold medals at a single Olympics.

Also in Salt Lake City, Norway's Bjørndalen played incredibly well, winning gold medals in all four biathlons. Of course, he also created other impressive records. On April 3, 2018, the 44-year-old Bjørndalen announced his retirement, winning a total of 8 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze in his career, a total of 13 Winter Olympic medals, five of which came from individual events. This result set a new Winter Olympic record at the time, and to this day, Bjorndalen is still the greatest biathlonist in history.

From Chamonix to Beijing – A Hundred Years of the Winter Olympics chronicles the struggles of legendary athletes whose dreams came true through sweat, tears, fear, perseverance and courage.

The content of the whole book manuscript is positive and upward, there are many inspirational stories and legends, with the main line of promoting tenacious struggle, unity and mutual assistance, integrity and fraternity, showing the sportsmanship of pursuing faster, higher, stronger and more united. The content of the book mirrors the theme song of the Beijing Winter Olympics, calling out to people around the world: the more the world loves, the more wonderful it is, to open all the doors, everyone holds their hands together, and together they will go to the future.

The legend of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games is still ringing in the global village, and what kind of classics will the more united Beijing-Zhangjiakou 2022 work together to dedicate to the world? Let's wait and see. (Editor-in-Charge: Li Zhengrong)
