I think the master, his own work, in a big way, has to play a very big role in this population culturally. Like the ripples of an earthquake, the epicenter may have a small circle, but the magnitude of the earthquake is very high and slowly spreads outward.
I think that Shi Tao, the Eight Greats, etc. have a great influence on the thoughts, emotions, and values of Chinese scholars, and of course they are definitely masters. Another example is Li Yu, although he seems to write about the inner feelings of the fall of the country, Wang Guowei said that Li Yu is like Christ Jesus, he is saddled with the disaster of all mankind, the tragedy of a species.
In addition, innovation is also one of many aesthetic values. Good paintings are often very good from any point of view, from the traditional point of view of Chinese painting, the tradition is inherited better; from the perspective of innovation, innovation is also good. Just because of innovation, it doesn't turn into a good painting. So innovation is certainly not the only aesthetic value, and it is certainly not the most important value. Just like the little girl herself is very good-looking, why is it good-looking? Because she looks white? But not all white-looking ones look good. Or maybe some little girls are slim so good-looking? Not all slim ones are good-looking, and some are as thin as bamboo poles and ugly. Not good anyway.
Personally, I think that being more sincere and more vivid is the value that matters. The so-called innovation, that is, I hope that your personal value is greater, and do not always imitate others.
At the beginning, I learned some stylized techniques in order to master some languages to enter the game. When you really enter the game, it is the manifestation of personal value, including your cultivation and your character. What you are like is in it, and the work is your shadow.
For example, there are various skilled methods in the technique, and some people are very skilled in a simple way, which proves that this person is more essential; some people are very skilled, all are fancy fists and embroidered legs, one moment flips and fights, and the other moment squeezes eyebrows and makes eyes, which proves that this person is more decorative to himself, and it is not easy for others to see his true colors. These beauties are all different.
The so-called painting is born from the heart, do not draw a picture, do not sing a song, you may not understand him, he draws it, in fact, it is more thorough to express himself, and then you think this person is very beautiful. For example, Cao Xueqin, he did not write "Dream of the Red Chamber", you must feel that it is a bad old man, he wrote "Dream of the Red Chamber", you obeyed, it turned out that this person's heart is so rich.
The difference is in the depth. Only when the heart is deeper, the work may have depth. It is impossible for a person with a very shallow heart to paint very deeply as soon as he draws. It is possible that the heart is more profound, the painting or the old painting can not be drawn, he does not understand the technique of the game of painting, may sing and sing very deeply, or write articles to write very deeply. Truly profound is not scary. Profound does not mean that I criticize others, but people who are truly profound, people who are truly understanding are very happy, very peaceful, and very enthusiastic.
The more you go up, the better writers, the better musicians, the ones who understand the problem to a certain depth, are definitely relatively few, so many painters are relatively not profound enough, which is also normal. For example, if you paint a very simple painting, unless you really paint very deeply, and someone knows you; you are not too profound, and you have given up on ordinary readers, and you have not painted a beautiful surface, is it not so that you can't even eat?
In Zen Buddhism, it is said that a man asked his teacher, how is he a person who does good deeds? The teacher said that it was those who "put on shackles and shackles". So how is the one who does evil? The teacher said that it was people like us who meditated and settled. He said, Teacher, you are talking too profoundly, can you say something directly that we can understand? The teacher said that good and evil are like floating clouds, and there is no certain statement. This is true of good and evil, beauty and ugliness, and right and wrong.
Painting, even the standard can not be set, who will score this score is even more unknown. So this game is interesting, it can be judged immediately, and not many people are fascinated to play it.
When I was in Jiangsu, there was a person of the teacher's generation, and some students may not be accustomed to lecturing. He told me he was 58 years old. I said, what's wrong with being 58? He said Qi Baishi began selling paintings at the age of 58. I said, "Are you starting to sell?" He said who knows if I'll live to be 95. In this respect, I prefer the slogan of americans sending their athletes to the Olympics: you may not be successful, but you must work hard. I think this is more humane, for every person who draws, it is not necessarily successful, but it should be worked hard, and success or failure is another matter.
I think Chinese painting must have a particularly strong charm, even if it dies at the hands of our generation, I think it doesn't matter, in another three hundred years and five hundred years may come back to life. It is quite possible to die now, success is almost impossible, and every success is valuable because it is impossible. We logically push that it is difficult for a person to succeed, and if you succeed, of course, there are many opportunities, and you yourself have invested more efforts than you can imagine.
I want to explain the success I said to be more specific.
We joke that if we start painting and the person next to you thinks you're a painter, we're positioned as a sixth-rate painter.
Then you meet a good teacher by chance, or you enter the Beijing Academy of Painting or the Central Academy of Fine Arts to study, after which you have a certain professional foundation, you can be regarded as a fifth-rate painter, promoted to the first-class.
You work very hard, and at this time you are a fourth-rate painter.
Every time you make progress, you will eliminate a batch, and the sixth-rate painter is not necessarily worse than you, but he does not have this opportunity and has not undergone such professional training. Some people who enter professional training are unfortunately excluded because of cultural management and other reasons.
When I get to the fourth-rate painter, I think it basically stops moving, and if the very smart person doesn't work too hard, it is considered okay by everyone, and when I enter some insignificant occasions, I can also be regarded as a fourth-rate painter. But most of them are such fourth-rate painters. Very smart people don't need to work too hard to get in, and people who aren't very smart have to work very hard to get in. Among so many fourth-rate painters, smart people can no longer develop a habit, so they will not enter the third-rate. The unintelligent person reaches the limit of his hard work, so there is basically nothing that enters the third rate.
Occasionally, there are some exceptions, such as Chen Danqing, and I joke that you are almost a third-rate painter because he is more intelligent and works very hard.
He was a special example, because at that time the society did not recognize him, saying that he was not from a good background or something. Chen Danqing said that at that time, they were particularly bitter, and when they drew a comic strip with that Ding master and disciple, the two people only had one pair of sanitary pants, and only one pair of autumn pants, and the autumn pants still had a big hole in the hole, and they didn't know where to stuff it, anyway, they lived very bitterly. Chen Danqing told me that he once got an oil canvas and cried because he had never gotten a real canvas and painted oil on the canvas very painfully. After he got it, he didn't know how to draw, he didn't know how to write. It is for these reasons that he is very hardworking and very smart in his own right, and I think without this reason, he might not have worked so hard. So he went into the third stream. But I think this motivation prevented him from getting into the second rate because he was too concerned about what society said about him.
Take away these things that hinder him, just paint more calmly, this kind of person may be in the fourth stream, but you can't enter the third stream at all, and the second stream is also difficult to enter, so it is all left in the fourth stream.
But there was a person who suddenly took the wrong medicine, and for some reason when he was in the third rate, his personality suddenly changed, and he could enter the second rate again.
Whether you can enter the first class after entering the second rate is another question. The painter who can enter the first class is not an ordinary person, a madman, or there is something wrong with him, and he only knows how to paint and does not know anything else. He must have a particularly great talent, a very thick education, and a disease, then he may be a first-class painter.
There are too few first-rate painters in history. So I think success is almost impossible, I don't want to succeed anymore, if I like to paint, I will always paint, I don't know if this statement is too relieving.
Some of the first-class painters I have a crush on, those buddies are absolutely sick. I think Picasso is a first-class painter, and this man must be sick, that is, in this world he does not seem to know anything else, only knows to paint, and he has such great creativity. But there are too many people with this problem alone, and he must be a person with great talent, and society must give him various reasons, so it is almost impossible for a person to succeed.
