In the warm spring of April, strange flowers bloom. The China Academy of Art celebrates its 94th anniversary. Ninety-four years of ups and downs, ninety-four years of youth like a song. Today we reminisce about the past, look up to the virtues, return to the source, and refine the original intention.

In the early morning of April 8th, the China Academy of Art celebrated the 94th anniversary of the founding of the university and the outstanding student commendation activity was held in the Giant Square of Xiangshan Campus. Gao Shiming, president of the China Academy of Art, delivered a speech, Sun Xudong, deputy secretary of the party committee, read out the list of winners of the 8th Wu Guanzhong Scholarship, fang Peixin, Fu Qiaoling, Cao Xiaoyang, Xu Guoqiang, members of the school's party and government leadership team, heads of relevant functional departments, party secretaries, deans, counselors, and student representatives of the second-level colleges in Xiangshan Campus attended the event.

Wu Guanzhong Scholarship winner, student of the School of Transmedia Arts, Wei Hao, presented flowers to the statue of Cai Yuanpei and spoke on behalf of the award-winning students, saying that it is necessary to take the first teacher as an example, not forget the original intention, strive to practice the spirit of the school motto, move forward in the process of hard work and change, and become a young person in the new era with family and country feelings. Four student representatives recited the interpretation of the school motto. A flag-raising ceremony was also held on the same day.

Teachers and students,

Today, we commemorate the 94th anniversary of the founding of the university in Gome's Master Square.

If people go on the road for too long, although they will accumulate experience and become skilled, they will sometimes be tired, their original intentions will be dusted, and they will even lose their way and look around. Every year, the school day is an opportunity to follow the path of our ancestors and return to that historical scene, that founding moment. Not only to reminisce about the past and look up to the virtues of the past, but more importantly, to return to the source and refine the original intention.

Artistic exploration is unique, and there are three main paths in the history of our school:

The first is the road of "East-West Communication" advocated by Mr. Cai Yuanpei and Mr. Lin Fengmian, which is also a road of modernist art movement with Chinese cultural awareness. In August 1928, Lin Fengmian, Lin Wenzheng and others initiated the establishment of the Art Movement Society at the National Academy of Arts, with the purpose of "uniting the new forces of the art world on the basis of absolute friendship, devoting themselves to the art movement, and promoting the emerging art in the East." The purpose of promoting the art movement is to "introduce Western art, sort out Chinese art, reconcile Eastern and Western art, and create the art of the times." On this road, a number of world-renowned outstanding artists such as Zao Wou-Ki, Wu Guanzhong, and Zhu Dequn have been trained.

The second is the road of "tradition out of the new" advocated by Mr. Pan Tianshou. Pan Tianshou is a forerunner and forerunner of national cultural self-confidence, he grasped the historical development of Chinese painting in the contrast of the two major systems of Chinese and Western painting, and put forward the theory of "opening up the distance between Chinese and Western painting" with foresight, pointing out that Eastern and Western painting is like "two peaks", each has its own highest achievements, we should take the strengths of both and "increase the height" for the twin peaks. Throughout the history of Chinese art in the 20th century, Pan Tianshou and his comrades have the clearest and firmest cultural consciousness and peak consciousness of Chinese art, and at the same time, they have practiced it most thoroughly and successfully.

The third path is the revolutionary art and realist art road represented by Mr. Liu Kaiqu. On this road, there are not only the backbone of a number of Chinese revolutionary literature and art, such as Li Keyan, Dong Xiwen, Wang Shikuo, Luo Gongliu, Li Qun, Yan Han, and Hu Yichuan, but also famous poets represented by Ai Qing, as well as aestheticians such as Wang Chaowen and Lu Hongji. They threw themselves into the revolution, pondered repeatedly between historical responsibility and artistic pursuit, and under the guidance of socialist realist literary and artistic thought, went deep into the life of the times, felt the hearts of the people, conveyed the gods for the times, and established legends for the mountains and rivers, and created a batch of magnificent masterpieces that bear historical narratives and condense the memory of the nation.

There is also a pioneer in the Giant Master Square, Mr. Huang Binhong. In the history of art, some artists are great because they are a peak, and some artists are great because they have opened up a path for future generations. He was not only an accomplished painter, but also a painter with great contributions, he was not only known as a traditionalist master, but also a pioneering master. More importantly, he found at the source of history the true meaning of painting that is accessible to civilization -- for him, "thick watts" is the nature of the nation, and "unevenness" is the spirit of folklore. His artistic path is both Chinese and Western, ancient and modern, and he has an open mind, open to the world and open to history. He said: "In the future world, there must be no difference between Chinese painting and Western painting. ...... Now it is time for us to stand up on our own feet, to carry forward the spirit of our folklore, to stretch out our arms to the world, and to shake hands with anyone who comes. ”

These gentlemen, together with the more than 100 predecessors and art professional predecessors represented in the "Beacon Art Course" series of reliefs there, like brilliant constellations, lit up the sky of modern Chinese art history, and also constituted the spiritual context and academic heritage of our school. Of course, sometimes it may become a burden on our history. If we only follow the example of the teacher and follow the martial arts, then we can only see their backs; we can only stand shoulder to shoulder with them to face the world they see and appreciate the scenery they see; if we have enough courage, enough wisdom, and enough luck to stand on the shoulders of gentlemen, we may see farther and broader than them.

Teachers, students, this year, we will carry out in-depth and serious discipline professional sorting, comprehensive and systematic adjustment of faculties. Next, we will continue to expand the school-running system of the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts in the "global local two-wheel drive"; in the "two-way communication of humanities and science and technology", we will reshape the intellectual foundation of art education. All of this is in response to the heights of our history. Most importantly, we must keep the original intention of Gome and the heart of Gome.
