As the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games approached, the mascot "Snow Rongrong" took over the "Ice Pier". In Jilin, the birthplace of "Snow Rongrong", the hometown people also cheered and excited.
The "Snow Rongrong" we see is designed and created with lanterns as the prototype, which is an artistic treatment of the elemental symbols of the traditional culture of the motherland; the ruyi shape at the top symbolizes auspicious happiness; the continuous pattern composed of the peace dove and the Temple of Heaven symbolizes peace and friendship, and also highlights the regional characteristics of the place where it is held; the snow block embellishment on the head and face has both the meaning of "Ruixue Mega Year" and the mascot is more playful and cute.
"The fifteenth day of the first month snow lights up"! During the Lantern Festival, snow fell in Jilin Pu and fell on lanterns in the streets and alleys. As a result, the picture of "full of 'snow melting'" brushed the circle of friends.
"Like a lantern, 'Snow Melting' can shine from the inside, implying lighting up dreams and warming the world, representing fraternity, courage and strength, and also reflecting the fighting spirit of Winter Paralympic athletes and the concept of the Winter Paralympic Games that inspire the world." Guo Chunfang, head of the design team of "Xue Rongrong" of Jilin Art College, professor of the College of Arts and Dean of the School of Arts of Jilin University, and former president of Jilin Art College, was introduced.
Nowadays, in Guo Chunfang's art studio, there are cute figures of "Snow Rongrong" everywhere, and the group photo of team members and "Snow Rongrong" is placed in the "C position".
On September 21, 2018, the special publicity activity of Jilin Academy of Arts was held on the "Global Solicitation of Mascots for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympic Games Mascots". Within a month, the school received 101 student design drafts and submitted them all to the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee.
In January 2019, of the nearly 6,000 works collected worldwide, 2 works of Jilin Art Institute entered the top 10. Among them, the image of Chinese lanterns is the prototype of the design of "snow rongrong".
Jiang Yufan, the prototype creative designer of "Xue Rongrong" and a second-year student of the School of Design of Jilin Art College, recalled that in the last 3 days before the end of the collection, she overturned the original design under the suggestion of the instructor and re-selected the most traditional cultural characteristics of the Chinese knot and the big red lantern as creative materials.
What follows is the day of racing against the clock and overcoming difficulties.
Four days later, the "Xue Rongrong" design team rushed to Beijing to participate in the first revision meeting, and the Winter Olympic Organizing Committee gave the opinion of "only retaining the original attributes and redesigning the image".
Over the course of 18 days, the team designed 3 different schemes and 62 sketches. The Organizing Committee of the Winter Olympics selected 1 set of plans and 6 sketches and put forward suggestions for continuing to revise and deepen.
Subsequently, the team received a notice from the Winter Olympic Organizing Committee to cancel the image design of Jiyi's "Chinese knot", and the team members put more energy into the lantern image design.
The mascot character attributes are also changed many times between "lantern", "old Beijing pigeon" and "deer", until the Winter Olympic Organizing Committee informs the overall plan of determining the "lantern baby".
The design team decided to complete the model production themselves, and the original studio of more than 100 square meters was turned into a temporary model processing plant, and the 3 square meter balcony was converted into a painting room. Modeling, shelling, 3D printing, sanding, painting... The team members have done one job after another.
"During that time, everyone's mood fluctuated, but every time they reached a low point, they could quickly adjust to it, and the more courageous they were. I think we are getting closer and closer to the spirit of the Paralympic Games. Jiang Yufan said.
On September 17, 2019, the mascot of the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympic Games, "Snow Rongrong", made a stunning appearance and received praise such as "cute", "playful and cute", and "flexible and changeable". Behind this is more than 30 round-trip trips to the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee, 32 sets of modification plans, and more than 10,000 design sketches, which is the efforts of the design team for more than 300 days and nights. This is also the "cute cheats" of "Snow Rongrong".
The design team of "Xue Rongrong" is mainly composed of young teachers and students, covering teachers and students in multiple directions such as visual communication design, animation, digital art, cultural elaboration, etc., and is the "Huang Danian-style teacher team of colleges and universities in Jilin Province". They are participants and devotees in many major national design projects, such as the Jilin Hall of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, the Jilin Float for the 50th, 60th and 70th Anniversaries of the Founding of the People's Republic of China, and the Jilin Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
Guo Chunfang said that "Snow Rongrong" is showing the world traditional Chinese culture, illuminating the development of the Olympic movement, illuminating the road of the development of ice and snow in the motherland, and also illuminating the way forward for the creative team.
