On September 17, 2019, the mascot of the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympic Games, "Snow Rongrong", was officially released. The reporter interviewed Su Dawei, a teacher at Jilin Art College, the creative team of "Xue Rongrong", to understand the process of the birth of the work. On January 21, 2019, Jilin Art Institute received a notice from the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee that the Chinese lantern image mascot designed by Jiang Yufan, a junior student of the school, stood out from nearly 6,000 works collected around the world and entered the top ten.
On January 25, 2019, Guo Chunfang, president of the college, set up the "Jiyi 1.25 Winter Olympics Mascot Project Team" to be responsible for the design work full-time. In more than half a year, the team members of the project team rotated day and night, going back and forth to the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee 22 times, modifying 32 sets of plans, drawing more than 10,000 design sketches, and finally determining the image of the mascot. As soon as the mascot was launched, it received everyone's attention and love.
When talking about the creative concept, Su Dawei introduced that "Snow Rongrong" is based on a red lantern, and the shape of the "Great Wall Pattern" at the top symbolizes auspiciousness; the continuous pattern composed of the peace dove and the Temple of Heaven symbolizes peace and friendship, highlighting the regional characteristics of the host place; the decorative pattern on the lantern is integrated into the traditional Chinese paper-cutting art; the snow blocks on the face of the lantern not only represent the meaning of the "Ruixue Mega Year", but also embody the anthropomorphic design, highlighting the cuteness of the mascot. The lanterns are dominated by "Chinese red" and render the festive atmosphere of the Chinese New Year in 2022.
The most worth mentioning is that the wick of the lantern emits light, which means to light up dreams and warm the world, representing fraternity, courage and strength, and also reflects the fighting spirit of winter Paralympic athletes and the concept of the Winter Paralympic Games that inspire the world. At present, the creative team is working on the design of mascot memes and derivatives, and they hope to use the lantern image of "Snow Rongrong" to "illuminate" the hearts of more people and convey the Olympic spirit.
