These pure electric vehicles need to be parked in a dedicated charging space, and the charging device is located underground. Volvo officials said that the current wireless charging power can reach 40kW, according to the Volvo XC40 RECHARGE equipped with a 69kWh capacity battery, it takes about 100 minutes to fully charge.
Like wireless charging of mobile phones, the charging of wireless charging piles of cars is also slower than wired charging. According to the information given by Volvo, although the speed of the wireless charging device cannot reach the charging speed of tesla above 120kW, the charging speed of 40kW is almost the same as the speed of ordinary DC fast charging piles of about 50-60kW.
At present, wireless charging is only one charging mode that it has tried. After all, unlike mobile phone wireless charging, the frequency of electric vehicle charging is lower, and unlike mobile phones that can be wirelessly charged anytime and anywhere, electric vehicle charging still needs to be opened to a fixed place, so wireless charging still cannot fundamentally solve the "charging pain point".
