"Occasional" encounters intangible cultural heritage to feel the inheritance of ingenuity

On February 15, a young reporter from the Sixth Experimental Primary School in Licheng District participated in the ancient city culture research activity sponsored by the Quanzhou Ancient City Office and the Southeast Morning Post. Under the leadership of Huang Xueling, the fourth generation of puppet head carving inheritors in Jiangjia, the little friends began to understand the puppet show in the palm of their hands, learned the carving process of the puppet head and experienced it with their own hands, witnessed the transformation of an ordinary camphor wood, and listened to the story of the non-hereditary heirs.

★ Funny palm puppets

□ reporter Cheng Yule (Licheng District Liushi Primary 5th Grade)

On the day of the Lantern Festival, Teacher Huang Xueling led us to walk close to Jiangjia to carve the puppet head, and also let us experience the puppet performance in the palm. Although the puppet in the palm is difficult to operate, it is very interesting. It needs to reasonably combine language expression with finger movements to perform perfectly, which makes people have to sigh at the profundity of traditional Chinese culture. (Instructor: Zhang Lina)

★ The Lantern Festival explores the puppet head

□ reporter Chen Zhixuan (Sixth Grade of Liushi Primary School, Licheng District)

On the day of the Lantern Festival, we learned the charm of intangible cultural heritage from the story of Jiangjia walking the puppet head carving. Jiang Jia walked from an early age to learn to carve puppet heads, and created many excellent works in his life, so he was called the "father of puppets". The puppet heads he made are known as "plus walking heads" and "garden heads" and are treasured by major museums.

Teacher Huang Xueling is the fourth generation inheritor of Jiang Jia's puppet head carving. In order to better inherit and carry forward this skill and attract more young people's attention, she constantly studied and innovated, which made us deeply feel the difficulty of non-genetic inheritance and the perseverance of the inheritors. (Instructor: Zhang Jinbao)

★ Ancient puppet head carving

□ reporter Zhao Mingyang (licheng district six real primary school fourth grade)

On the day of the Lantern Festival, we came to West Street, not to admire the lights, but to follow the student press corps to learn about the ancient puppet head carving technique.

Teacher Huang Xueling is the fourth generation inheritor of JiangJia's puppet head carving. She told us that the puppet heads were carved out of camphor wood because camphor wood is not perishable and easy to carve. Teacher Huang also brought her tools to let us experience puppet head carving. It was easy to see her carved, but no matter how hard we tried, it was difficult to cut off a small piece of wood.

It seems that the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage skills also needs continuous practice (instructor: Jiang Qiying)

★ The charm of intangible cultural heritage

□ reporter You Yuhang (Licheng District Liushi Primary School Fourth Grade)

At the scene of the event, Teacher Huang pointed to a variety of puppets and told us that puppets are divided into marionettes, cloth bag puppets, and cane puppets. The puppet head is carved from camphor wood and can be made after more than a dozen processes, each of which is very delicate.

When it came to the puppet head carving experience session, we were eager to try one by one, but we really started to find that we couldn't start. I can't help but sigh how hard it takes to go from an ordinary piece of wood to a lifelike puppet head! (Instructor: Wu Lichun)

★ The extraordinary in the ordinary

□ reporter Wu Wenxuan (Sixth Grade of Licheng District Liushi Primary School)

Walking into the classroom and looking at the smiling teacher, I had a feeling of déjà vu. Oh, it turns out that I have seen reports about her before, she is Huang Xueling teacher! Teacher Huang is not only engaged in puppet head carving, but also enthusiastically disseminates intangible cultural heritage. She often walks into the campus to spread the art of puppet carving to students from shallow to deep.

"Spring silkworm to the end of the dead silk, wax torch into gray tears began to dry." It is precisely because there are non-hereditary inheritors like her who silently adhere to it that our traditional culture will not be lost. (Instructor: Chen Fengmei)

★ Hand-carved puppet heads

□ little reporter Lan Sihan (Licheng District Liushi Primary School Fourth Grade)

In this activity, Teacher Huang Xueling, the fourth generation inheritor of Jiangjia walking puppet head carving, led us into the world of puppet head carving. Teacher Huang said that carving a puppet head is a dialogue between the carver and the puppet head. The main process consists of twelve steps, which take at least a week. Teacher Huang also asked us to try to carve by hand and experience how difficult it is to carve a piece of wood.

It seems that puppet head carving is really a hard job! (Instructor: Jiang Yixuan)
