1BN, at the just-opened Mobile World Congress MWC2022, the conference released data showing that by the end of this year, the number of global 5G connections will reach 1 billion.
At the same time, China's three major operators, which contribute almost half of the above 1 billion connections to 5G subscribers, collectively unveiled MWC2022.
In the 5G era, in the face of operator executives from Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and other countries, Chinese telecom operators are showing an increasingly stable leading posture. Even Vodafone CEO Nick Read admits that in terms of 5G development, Europe lags behind countries such as South Korea and China.
For the leaders of China's three major telecom operators and the world's top operators, the word "communication" means a lot behind it, which is the progress of science and technology society, the balanced development of the world, energy conservation and emission reduction, and the "new operation" of all elements such as network, data, AI, computing power, and connectivity.
On the first day of mobile world congress MWC2022, let's take a look at the heads of China's three major telecom operators and global communications industry executives talking about Barcelona.
Digital infrastructure connects the infinite future
Kerryvin
Chairman of China Telecom Group Co., Ltd
Driven by the global wave of digitalization, the construction of a high-speed ubiquitous, integrated heaven and earth, cloud-network integration, intelligent and agile, green and low-carbon, safe and controllable intelligent comprehensive digital information infrastructure has become a common demand of the whole society.
China Telecom has been adhering to cloud-network integration for many years, and I have shared this strategy at previous conferences, and have achieved initial results by continuously promoting cloud-network integration.
In terms of networking, we have built the world's largest 5G SA co-construction shared network, the largest NB-IoT network, the largest gigabit optical fiber network and so on.
In terms of cloud, we currently rank first in the scale of our IDC in China, and the share of cloud computing ranks first among global operators.
In terms of the integration of cloud and network, we realize "where the cloud is, where is the network deployment" in accordance with the three principles of network resources according to the needs of the cloud, network scheduling moves with the cloud, and network and cloud integration deployment.
Technology creates the future. Technology is the core driving force for the development of the global telecommunications industry, and operation is an external manifestation. China Telecom put forward the goal of building a technology-based enterprise in 2020, and we are committed to upgrading from a traditional telecom operator to a technology-based enterprise.
Cloud network connects the future. China Telecom is the first in the world to realize the unified operation of cloud, network and IT, and we are committed to promoting the integration of cloud and network from physical reaction to chemical reaction, so as to provide the global digital economy with connectivity beyond traditional physical networks, and present intelligent, secure and green characteristics.
Intelligent connection is to realize the automation and intelligence of cloud network operation, and cloud network should actively adapt to upper-layer applications. We will break through key technologies such as network cloudification, digital twins, and AI automatic orchestration, integrate the encapsulation, scheduling, and supply of cloud network resources, data, and capabilities, and empower cloud network applications across the industry.
Secure connection is to establish an endogenous security system and capabilities in the cloud network to cope with network and information security challenges. We will focus on core technologies such as network endogenous security, cloud-native security, and data security, and provide services on demand and elastically in a cloud manner, realizing security as a service.
Green connectivity is to adopt new technologies and models to continuously promote energy conservation and consumption reduction in digital infrastructure and reduce carbon emissions. We will continue to optimize the network architecture and cloud network resource layout, introduce new construction models and AI technologies, increase the proportion of renewable energy, and achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality as soon as possible.
For example, the substantial growth of global computing power demand will bring about the rapid growth of data center energy consumption, if the power transmission network dispatch to meet the energy consumption needs of different data centers, will bring great waste, with the help of network scheduling to achieve reasonable distribution and use of computing power, to achieve the goal of substantial energy saving. China Telecom took the lead in proposing the concept of computing power network in the industry and took the lead in formulating the standard framework of computing power network in ITU. We believe that the computing power network is actually a green connection, which is the characteristic and important component of our cloud-network convergence digital infrastructure.
Facing the coming digital era, China Telecom is willing to share our technologies and solutions in cloud computing and cloud-network integration, 5G co-construction and sharing, gigabit broadband, etc., and work together with colleagues from all walks of life in the industry to jointly lead the new technology and industrial ecology.
Create a new type of "connection + computing power + ability"
Information service system
Hero
Chairman of China Mobile
The Beijing Winter Olympics presented a feast of green technology and humanities to the world, vividly demonstrating the great potential of a new generation of information technology for building a better future for mankind, and also bringing many enlightenments to industrial development: the network connection category is expanding to the integration of people, machines and things; the infrastructure form is upgrading to the integration of computing and networking; and economic and social development is evolving towards the integration of virtual and real.
Yang Jie said that in the face of new changes, China Mobile proposed a new positioning to create a world-class information service technology innovation company, and made every effort to build a new information service system based on 5G + computing power + network + smart middle office, "connection + computing power + capacity", and create a new model of value growth.
Yang Jie believes that the first is to build a first-class 5G network to provide high-speed mobile security ubiquitous connection services. China Mobile will continue to promote the construction of 5G plus gigabit optical fiber networks, deepen multi-screen collaboration and co-construction and sharing, improve 5G private network capabilities, and support the scale expansion of 5G applications. "It is expected that by the end of 2022, more than one million 5G base stations will be opened, and the scale of 5G network customers will exceed 330 million." Yang Jie said.
The second is to build a ubiquitous integrated computing power network and create a one-point access, ready-to-use computing power service. China Mobile will accelerate the efficient integration of computing power in physical space, logical space and heterogeneous space, build a computing network brain with integrated scheduling and orchestration of computing network, and gradually promote computing power to become a social foundation like hydropower. In 2022, the resource interconnection, system integration and integration of computing power and network will be basically realized.
The third is to build an open and shared wisdom middle platform, output unified packaging, flexible invocation of the ability to serve. Yang Jie said that China Mobile will fully aggregate internal and external high-quality capabilities and high-value data to build an industry-benchmark wisdom middle office to support the digital transformation of the whole society. "By the end of this year, the convergence capacity exceeds 350 capabilities, and the annual transportation volume exceeds 100 billion times." Yang Jie said.
Yang Jie believes that "connection + computing power + capacity" as a pioneering systematic project, officially for the sustainable and high-quality development of the industry in the sky to take off wings.
The Beijing Winter Olympics is the first edition
The real meaning of the 5G Winter Olympics
Liu Liehong
Liu Liehong, Chairman of China Unicom
At the end of last year, China Unicom issued a new strategy, taking "big connection, big computing, big data, big application, big security" as the main business, and "committed to contributing to the development of China's and global digital economy." Liu Liehong said.
Liu Liehong introduced that since 5G was commercially used in China in 2019, China Unicom and China Telecom have built the world's first, largest and fastest 5G SA to build a shared network. China Unicom has created more than 300 application scenarios and more than 300 lighthouse projects to accelerate the transformation of 5G applications from model rooms to commercial housing. Liu Liehong cited a number of 5G application cases, such as: in Shaanxi Zhangjia'an Coal Mine through 5G to achieve remote operation of production and unattended, the construction of smart mines, personnel reduced by 50%, the response rate doubled; in Guangdong, through 5G plus unmanned aerial vehicles, unmanned boats to patrol the river, the inspection efficiency increased by 12 times.
Liu Liehong highlighted the two Olympic Games, "14 years ago, China Unicom and Beijing presented an unparalleled broadband Olympics. 14 years later, China Unicom once again helped Beijing build the most technologically advanced and extreme technology Winter Olympics, and it is also the first true 5G Winter Olympics. ”
He introduced that China Unicom has built a 5G network with comprehensive coverage and extreme capacity for all 87 Olympic venues and roads connecting the venues for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games. Europe's 5G needs to catch up
South Korea, China and the United States
Nick Read
CEO of Vodafone
"5G is a catalyst for innovation and is vital for every industry, every country," said Nick Read. He admitted that Europe lags behind South Korea, China and the United States in terms of 5G development.
In terms of the proportion of the population covered by 5G, Nick Read said that South Korea has exceeded 90%, that is, more than 90% of the population is under 5G coverage, China is more than 60%, and the United States is about 45%. "But Europe is less than 10 percent," says Nick Read, adding that from this perspective, Europe needs to catch up.
In his view, the first thing to do is to fill the investment gap to ensure that Europe can deploy 5G at the right speed, so as to ensure that society can fully reap the dividends of digital transformation.
Nick Read believes that in the process of promoting digital transformation, the government needs to have a clear and bold digital plan, and there must be a strong execution force to promote, "We will play our role to show leadership in the industry, and we also hope to find real partners to work together to empower digital Europe." ”
There are still 3.7 billion people in the world
Internet "desert"
Glade
President of the GSMA
"The development of mobile communication technology is crucial, not only because it has a wide range of enabling effects, whether it is for manufacturing, education, entertainment, etc., but also for energy conservation and emission reduction, green development, mobile communications have a very important significance." Glad said during MWC2022.
According to Grid, in some industries, especially energy-intensive enterprises, such as transportation, construction, mining, etc., mobile communication technology is increasingly being used to reduce carbon emissions. The GSMA expects to reduce carbon emissions globally by 11 billion tonnes by 2030, equivalent to 40% of the total, or, in other words, shutting down 2,700 traditional coal-fired power stations and emitting significant amounts less carbon dioxide. "The mobile communications industry is ready to work with other industries to achieve such emissions reduction targets."
In terms of 5G development, Grid said that by the end of 2021, 180 operators around the world have launched commercial services in 70 markets, and mobile data traffic has increased by 42% in the past year, "this is just the beginning." ”
To push for better 5G, Grid called on governments to do better in spectrum allocation, especially when it comes to affordability.
He also stressed that although the digital divide has narrowed, with more than 1.4 billion people already under the coverage of mobile broadband in the past five years, the current gap is still huge. "Nearly half of the world's population has not yet achieved an internet connection, and the population size has reached 3.7 billion. Behind this, there are 450 million people in the area, completely not covered by mobile broadband, the remaining 3.2 billion people, although in the environment of mobile broadband coverage, but because of tariffs, terminals and other factors, there is not enough affordability. "Especially for rural areas, a lot of people don't get a good education because of the lack of internet connectivity.
Gred said addressing the digital divide is about enabling people to afford mobile broadband services and have the skills needed to use the technology.
