WiTricity introduces a wireless charging system for the Tesla Model 3

WiTricity announced plans this week to introduce a wireless charging system for the Tesla Model 3, which the company claims will provide the Model 3 with up to 11kW of wireless charging power, which is enough to allow it to travel 56 km-64 km/h, which is roughly equivalent to the power of most Level 2 home charging systems.

WiTricity says they've been testing the system on the 2018 Model 3 since October 2021, and the final results suggest that it takes about six hours to fully charge the Model 3.

The system will consist of only three components – a receiver mounted on the vehicle, a wall box connected to the power supply, and a charging plate connected to the wall box for placement on the ground or in the ground.

WiTricity also said the system will be available in the U.S. later this year as a "limited beta" and plans to roll it out more widely in 2023, but WiTricity didn't show any other details, they just said more details would be announced later this year.
