The post-90s generation is too difficult.

Following the sudden death of a 1996-born architectural designer in Shanghai who was suspected of working too much overtime in a rental house, a 28-year-old byteDance programmer collapsed in the company's gym in Beijing.

In recent years, more and more post-90s and even post-95s feel that there are physical problems, mostly related to overtime and work pressure. This situation is especially pronounced in fast-paced, high-intensity Internet companies.

As a result, more and more post-90s people turned from livehouse to gyms, put down junk food and carbonated drinks in their hands, and lived a life of "soaking goji berries in a thermos cup".

On February 23, Zhao Yue (pseudonym), a post-95 employee of an Internet company, sighed to the Times Weekly reporter. Although less than a year after joining the company, Zhao Yue has felt that her health is not as good as before, and she has begun to pay attention to health.

"It is true that employees of large Internet factories work a lot of overtime and work pressure, and the larger the company, the more such problems will occur." On February 25, Liu Xingliang, president of the DCCI Internet Research Institute, told the Times Weekly reporter that the reason for this phenomenon is that the Internet factory has a huge amount of data and information to deal with. In addition, it is also related to environmental issues such as the fast pace of work of large factories, transparent systems, and certain competitive pressures.

Liu Xingliang believes that although the work pressure is high, it is not advisable for young people in large factories to eat health care products, and "young people should still improve their physical fitness through exercise."

How tired is it to work in a big factory?

"I left work at eleven o'clock in the evening, and when I took a taxi home, I saw more than 100 people in front of me, and I had no choice but to take the subway home, which felt quite torturous." This overtime scene is not uncommon in Zhao Yue's work. As a business deliverer, she works on projects and clients, and often needs to connect with clients on weekends.

"At present, the company's resources can not keep up, one person to be used as two people, often overtime until eleven o'clock in the evening on weekdays, when it is serious, one or two o'clock at night is also there." Zhao Yue said.

In contrast, Yang Fan (pseudonym) after the 90s entered the factory earlier and has become accustomed to this high-intensity rhythm. As a programmer in a large factory, Yang Fan used to work overtime 2-3 times a week for a period of time, and left work at 10 o'clock or even later. "I feel very tired, especially at eleven or twelve o'clock at night, I feel my heart is uncomfortable, and then I will go home immediately." Yang Fan told the Times Weekly reporter.

Yang Fan said that although he often works overtime, the situation is not the most serious in the company, and colleagues in operation and maintenance positions are more difficult. "Operation and maintenance engineers should be on standby at any time to ensure that the website does not have bugs and can run in real time." As soon as there is a problem, you must immediately go to work, and you are also responsible for monitoring some indicators. ”

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in 2021, the average weekly working hours of employed personnel in enterprises nationwide will be 47.8 hours. Based on the 5 working days a week, the average working day is 9.56 hours.

As the hardest hit area of overtime, Internet companies have adjusted the pace of work since last year, and have successively cancelled the work system of "996" and "Big and Small Week". Yang Fan told the Times Weekly reporter that since the second half of last year's business adjustment and the company's clear statement that it does not advocate overtime, his overtime situation has been significantly reduced.

Health guide for the post-90s generation of the big factory

In the face of the high-pressure work rhythm of the large factory, the working atmosphere of the inner volume and the endless overtime, many post-90s employees have begun to pay attention to health.

After working in the factory for more than half a year, Zhao Yue found that his dark circles were getting heavier and heavier. Previously, she used to fall asleep at one o'clock in the evening, but recently she has begun to deliberately advance her sleep time. Yang Fan also no longer stayed up late until one or two o'clock in the evening as often as before, he controlled the rest time before twelve o'clock every night, and began to pay attention to sports and fitness.

According to the "2021 White-collar Satisfaction Index Survey Report" released by Zhaopin Recruitment, 30% of the white-collar workers surveyed used regular work and rest to maintain health; 20.5% believed in food supplements.

According to the "2017-2022 China Health and Wellness Industry Market Development Status and Investment Prospect Forecast Report", the current scale of the mainland health care market has exceeded one trillion yuan, with an average annual expenditure of more than 1,000 yuan per city permanent resident for health care, and young people aged 18-35 account for 83.7% of the health care population.

With the enhancement of health awareness, various types of health care products began to appear on the desks of the post-90s of the big factory. On Tmall, a brand of liver protection tablets sold more than 20,000 copies a month, and a brand of vitamins endorsed by athlete Zhang Jike sold more than 30,000 copies a month.

In this context, health care product companies are favored by capital. According to Tianyan, peppermint health, a brand focusing on food, nutrition and diet, has completed a D2 round of financing of 100 million yuan in November last year, which is exclusively invested by SZDC.

According to media reports, previously, Mint Health had successively introduced Morningside Venture Capital (now Wuyuan Capital), SIG, DCM, Qualcomm, Fosun Group and MingYao Capital, and the D1 round of financing occurred in May last year, when the valuation of Mint Health had reached 2 billion yuan. At present, Peppermint Health has served nearly 130 million users, with monthly sales of more than 100 million yuan.

The report released by the US consulting firm Grand View Research predicts that the global functional food market will reach $275.77 billion by 2025.

Can health food really help young employees? "It is not advisable for young people to maintain their health by eating health supplements." On February 24, Wu Hongji, chief physician of Zhejiang Putuo Hospital, said in an interview with the Times Weekly reporter.

In Wu Hongji's view, those young Internet employees, instead of eating health care products, it is better to take 5-10 minutes of time between work to do some simple exercises to prevent pulmonary artery embolism; try not to drink milk tea, carbonated drinks, drink more water and drink tea to dilute blood, prevent cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases; eat less greasy food and reduce oil intake; regular annual physical examinations.

"Some people have no signs before sudden death, and some people will have chest tightness, cold sweats and other symptoms, and cerebral ischemia can cause death in 5 minutes, so timely rescue is very critical." If CPR can be performed within 5 minutes, the rescue success rate can be increased by 20%. Wu Hongji said that he hopes that more people will pay attention to the study of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and the company should also train employees.
