When the word "college" is mentioned in the field of art, we often associate it with the style of "academic school", and even associate it with characteristics such as "mediocrity" and "lack of creativity".
But this is a misreading.
The "Academy" represents a scientific teaching system and solid professionalism.
On February 25th, two exhibitions related to the "Academy" opened at the Jeonsan stone art center at the same time, showing us the real teaching results of the college. In the basic skills of drawing and sketching by ancient and modern Chinese and foreign artists, we can re-understand and interpret the meaning of "academy".
"Academy Sketches - Selected Sketches and Sketches of Foreign Academies of Fine Arts" opened at the Jeonsanshi Art Center Art Museum (Old Hall), exhibiting the sketches of some foreign academies of fine arts since the twentieth century for the audience's research and reference.
Most of them are classroom assignments by foreign artists in the teaching of the academy, and there are also assignments completed by Chinese students studying at foreign academies of fine arts.
Mr. Jeonsan Seok's original intention in opening this exhibition was to emphasize the importance of sketching, a basic skill of artistic creation.
At present, some art creators are eager to pursue the expression of personality before their basic skills are solid, and they combine the scientific and professional training of the college with stereotypes and old-fashionedness. In view of this phenomenon, it is very necessary to revisit college education and revisit the creation of basic skills.

The fine arts education system of the Academy of Arts dates back to Italy in the sixteenth century.
In Florence in 1563, the Duke of Cosimo of the Medici family, under vasari's strong impetus, established Italy's first art academy, under the joint responsibility of Michelangelo and Cosimo.
Later, the three Karachi brothers of Polonia formed a private institution for artists to sketch, the future Polonia Academy of Fine Arts. They opened courses in proportion, anatomy, perspective and architecture, forming a rigorous art education system that became the blueprint for the academies of art in european countries in the future.

The establishment of the Italian Academy of Fine Arts soon influenced France, and by the middle of the eighteenth century it was all over Europe. In 1757, Russia created the Academy of Fine Arts in Petersburg, now the Repin Academy of Fine Arts in Petersburg. Subsequently, this set of art education systems also affected China.
The purpose of the academy determined the limitations of the reform, so the concept of the academy or school of thought in the West was pejorative. However, the college's art education system has been tested by history and has formed a scientific and mature training tradition.

Among them, drawing is one of the most basic teaching courses of the Academy of Fine Arts, and it plays a pivotal role in the art teaching of the whole college.
As the basic training of plastic arts, drawing includes the study of artistic laws and topics such as modeling laws and perspective laws. Its purpose is to cultivate students' aesthetic ability at the same time, cultivate students' ability to observe, analyze, synthesize, understand and express objective things, and obtain the freedom of modeling. The basic training of sketching has its rigorous and scientific regularity, but these regularity factors do not hinder the formation of various expression methods.

The last exhibition hall of the exhibition shows quanshanshi's sketching assignments in grades 1-5 when he studied at the Repin Academy of Fine Arts in Russia in the 1950s, including dissection and perspective training in the lower grades, to plaster head and real human head training, to single and double body sketches in the upper grades, as well as some sketches.
The Repin Academy of Fine Arts's sketching program requires students in grades 1-5 to do two hours of homework each morning. There are also evening sketching and slow writing exercises.
Coincidentally, the "National Higher Art Colleges Affiliated Middle School Collection Sketch Tour Exhibition" was opened at the same time in the exhibition hall (new hall) of Jeonsan stone art center, and sketching is also an important lesson in the art education of the college.
This exhibition is sponsored by the China National Art Fund and the Central Academy of Fine Arts, organized by the Attached Middle School of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the Attached Middle School of the China Academy of Art, and the Quanshanshi Art Center, led by the Affiliated Middle School of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and jointly participated in the Attached Middle School of the China Academy of Art, the Attached Middle School of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, the Attached Middle School of the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, the Attached Middle School of the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, and the Attached Middle School of the Xinjiang Academy of Arts, which constitutes a representative exhibition of the education and teaching achievements of the Attached Middle School of higher art colleges, and Hangzhou is the first stop of the touring exhibition.
"Sketching is one of the art forms most closely related to real life, the most intuitive reflection of the artist's in-depth life, and the most direct and effective way of artistic expression facing the times and expressing the times." Fan Di'an, president of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and president of the China Artists Association, stressed the importance of sketching.
The attached middle school is an important stage for students to enter the youth from youth, and the attached middle school of the higher art school shoulders the mission and responsibility of cultivating future outstanding artists. This period of education can lay a solid and broad foundation for students' future artistic growth, and sketching cultivates their ability to observe life with the eyes of painting, and trains the ability to coordinate the brain, eyes and hands, which is an indispensable part of the training of basic skills in plastic arts.
Zhu Zhaoxi, a professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, said that sketching is a very important teaching content of the attached middle school, which not only cultivates students' feelings about life, but also cultivates students' ability to learn independently. The initiative and sensitivity cultivated by sketch teaching, as well as the active awareness of observation and thinking and creativity, are helpful for the study of various professional courses.

This exhibition selects the works collected by the six institutions since the establishment (restoration) of the school, including the works of well-known artists when they were studying in those years and the outstanding works of young students today. From the 1950s to today, the time spans more than 60 years; from Guangzhou to Beijing, from Xinjiang to Zhejiang, the space spans the east, west, south and north: visiting the exhibition is also reading the history of China's development in sketch painting.
These works are not large in size, but they are vivid and vivid, full of strong signs of the times and a strong atmosphere of life.
In their sketches, the young students naturally recorded the social outlook of different periods since the founding of New China, recorded the daily life memories of people in different eras, and recorded the historical footprints of the artist's personal growth and national development.
