The new Sanshan Wuyuan Art Center in Beijing is scheduled to be put into use by the end of 2023

On February 13, at the special press conference of the 2022 Beijing News Center for the Protection of History and Culture in Beijing, Xu Zhentao, deputy governor of the People's Government of Haidian District of Beijing, introduced that the new Sanshan Wuyuan Art Center in Haidian District of Beijing is scheduled to be put into use at the end of 2023, and at the same time, major projects will be the main line to improve the cultural relics exhibition, investigation and protection system.

Located in The Haidian District of Beijing, the Sanshan Wuyuan area is a collective name for the cultural heritage of various historical periods represented by the Royal Gardens of the Qing Dynasty in the northwest suburbs of Beijing, the overall pattern of landscapes and rivers, and the harmonious spatial order between man and nature, with an area of 68.5 square kilometers. The Three Mountains refer to Wanshou Mountain, Xiangshan Mountain, and Yuquan Mountain; the Five Gardens refer to the Summer Palace, Jingyi Garden, Jingming Garden, Changchun Garden, and Yuanmingyuan.

Xu Zhentao introduced that the new Sanshan Wuyuan Art Center, located in the hinterland of Sanshan Wuyuan, the former Changchun Garden West Garden and the current Haidian Park, with a construction area of 21,200 square meters and a total investment of 408 million yuan, is currently undergoing the main construction, the exhibition outline is carried out synchronously, and it is planned to be put into use at the end of 2023. At that time, it will be integrated with the Zhongguancun Exhibition Center and the permanent site of the Zhongguancun Forum, and will become a "city hall" and a new cultural landmark integrating cultural heritage protection, scientific and technological frontier release, and natural ecological environment.

At the same time, the use of science and technology to help the investigation and management of cultural heritage. Xu Zhentao introduced that at present, 328 immovable cultural relics, 196 historical buildings, 15,070 ancient trees and other resources in Haidian District have been basically identified, and various resources such as district-level cultural relics have been built and improved. Embed cultural relics protection into haidian city brain, build an intelligent inspection system for cultural relics, monitor cultural relics in the whole process and all-weather, form a three-dimensional barrier for cultural relics safety intelligently related to digital space and physical space, and create a highlight project of cultural relics + scientific and technological innovation.

In terms of strengthening the protection and utilization of the archaeological site park, Xu Zhentao said that the archaeological exploration of the Mountain Water System Site in the Yuanmingyuan took eight years to complete, the excavation area was 18,500 square meters, and more than 30,000 royal cultural relics such as water transmission copper pipes and official kiln porcelain were unearthed. The Yuanmingyuan Museum with Zhengjue Temple as the core is under construction, initially forming a regional museum group including 27 museums such as the Summer Palace Museum, which strongly supports the construction of the Beijing Museum City.

Xu Zhentao also introduced that at present, the improvement of the ecological environment in Haidian District has achieved remarkable results. The jinhe river, the north long river and other river treatment projects have been fully completed, the historical water system has been partially restored, and the natural ecological river and lake water grid bureau has basically taken shape. The public space upgrading project of the Beijing-Zhang Railway Site was carried out in an orderly manner. Create a 760-hectare green space to reproduce the idyllic landscape of Haidian where nature and history and humanities blend.
