Shanghai Library launched a new LOGO, setting sail for the era of big reading

Today, the Shanghai Library (Shanghai Institute of Science and Technology Information) released a new version of the Logo and the list of invited artists of the East Library in the newly built East Library.

The new LOGO uses the visual image of the wind is raising the sails and the birds flying over the mountains and seas, implying that the Shanghai Library will use the new positioning of the intelligent composite library to guide the development vision of the great reading era in which reading connects all things. After the upgrade, it is more suitable for the visual recognition system of the all-media communication ecology, implying that Shanghai Library will fully introduce people-oriented, detail-oriented and experience-oriented design thinking, and plant a poetic habitat belonging to Shanghai, the "people's city".

Shanghai Library is a living organism that preserves, generates and exchanges information and knowledge, and with the opening of the East Library, it is constantly creating new reading scenes, reading experiences and reading energy. As a visual representation of the spiritual connotation of the library, the LOGO must also be loaded with new information with the development of living organisms. The new LOGO is handled by Chen Youjian, a designer with international influence who adheres to the concept of "East Love and West Rhyme", and the whole visual recognition system is completed by Shen Haopeng, a top local designer familiar with the development of Shanghai culture. The cooperation between the two teams, which integrates international vision and local feelings, shows that Shanghai Library will tell the story of the library in a way that is more in line with the concept of urban openness, inclusive culture and the spirit of the times.

Plastic new LOGO plastic new reading

Amid the surging music, the futuristic laser show brought the new LOGO to the press conference. The new LOGO inherits the triangular shape of the original museum logo, but with a more concise and flat design, it presents the main visual pattern shaped like a sail, expressing that the Shanghai Library upholds the original intention, is not afraid of change, and sets sail for the era of great reading. The multiple images contained in the LOGO are not only interpretations of the era of big reading, but also interpretations of the "intelligence, inclusiveness, and interconnection" 3i transformation strategy implemented by Shanghai Library to lead to this era.

Logo with curved lines to form the image of the book page, the top seems to have a bird flying out of the book, because it is full of wisdom and appears to be at ease, implying that Shanghai Library will inherit the successful experience of the past, embrace the future wisdom development, empower culture with science and technology, and provide readers with convenient, intelligent and innovative services.

The LOGO is symmetrical left and right, showing two shades of blue, such as birds perched on trees illuminated by the sun, implying that Shanghai Library will strive to promote the coordinated development of the library and the East Library, taking into account public reading promotion and professional graphic services, and creating an inclusive environment for people of all ages and diverse knowledge needs.

The blockbuster release of the new LOGO means that the strategy of wisdom, inclusiveness and interconnection will lead shanghai libraries to iterate into a new intelligent composite library. According to the interpretation of Director Chen Chao of Shanghai Library, the simple and breathing line arrangement of the LOGO not only echoes the modern sculpture sense of the large inclined cut of the East Library, but also means that the Shanghai Library is like the sea, which will be committed to connecting every information island, connecting people, space, media, content and knowledge, entering the sea, and finally merging into a big reading era in which paper reading and digital reading are integrated, physical space experience and cloud online interaction are integrated, and librarians' creativity and intelligent tools are linked.

Design Thinking Design for the Future

At the press conference, blind reader Han Xingchen performed the adapted library song "Ocean of Knowledge", which is a redesign of the sound image of Shanghai Library. The robot represents the wisdom librarian and uses "hot dance" to show the extension of the LOGO, that is, the application of the whole set of visual recognition systems in the library scene. Whether it is sound or visual elements, the institutional image of Shanghai Library emphasizes the sense of design and flattening, aiming to adapt to the multi-terminal and cross-platform communication needs of the all-media era.

The press conference also grandly launched the "List of Invited Artists of the East Pavilion". Since the beginning of the construction of the East Pavilion, these well-known Chinese and foreign contemporary artists have been invited to create around the characteristics of the library, integrating the beauty of art into the reading space. As Shen Fan, a local Artist from Shanghai who was present at the scene, mentioned in a dialogue with the librarians: art connects the past, present and future, and so does reading; art is a mirror image of the world, and reading is the same. Reading in art and feeling art in reading is not only the due responsibility of world-class urban libraries, but also the due move of reading to connect all things in the era of big reading.

All these designs associated with the image of the institution show that Shanghai Library will face the future, fully introduce innovative thinking into the hardware and software development of the library, emphasize the people-oriented, detail-oriented, experience-oriented concept of running the library, revitalize the creativity of librarians and readers, continuously optimize business processes and service processes, and plant a poetic habitat belonging to Shanghai, a "people's city".
