Yan Duhe's pen name is Si Zhao

At the end of 2018, Mr. Yan Jianping approached me and invited me to participate in the editing of the anthology of his grandfather Yan Duhe. I have long heard that Mr. Lao was the deputy director of the Shanghai Library in the early days of its establishment, presiding over the national newspaper index and newspaper clipping work, just in 1995 I just graduated from college and entered the editorial department of the newspaper index above, in this eight easy cold and summer, I can know that there seems to be Providence in the darkness, so I did not say a word, and gladly agreed.

Since the beginning of the compilation, it has always paid attention to collecting the perceptions and evaluations of the old man at that time. As time went on, the anthology slowly took shape, and I went from being unfamiliar to familiar with the old gentleman, and gradually being attracted by his charisma, realizing that it was not easy for him to ask for the people's lives in those turbulent years. As Qi Zaiyu said in the "Shanghai Shirenzhi" (Prospect Publishing House, September 1947 edition): "Mr. Yan Duhe ,...... The toilet press has been like a day for decades, with a noble style, less than fame and fortune, in order to regard journalists as the ladder of politics. He is uninhibited, full of sense of justice, writing for literature, short and concise, piercing current affairs, often unique, and valued by public opinion. ”

Unlike many active authors in the Republic of China period, Yan Duhe was in the big newspaper, and did not use many pen names, in addition to the Xizhi Duhe, Zhi I, and Penang Fangguan owners, Nian Zhenhuajia also used pen names such as Wanqing and Lao Bao when writing in the post-1949 innovative tabloids "Dabao" and "Yi Bao". In addition, there is another trick that is occasionally used, which is little known.

On the afternoon of October 3, 1986, the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the Shanghai Journalism Society, and the Shanghai Library jointly held the "Symposium to Commemorate the 97th Anniversary of the Birth of Mr. Yan Duhe". At the meeting, presided over by Zhao Chaoju, then vice chairman of the Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and president of Xinmin Evening News, at which the editors-in-chief and veteran newspapers of major newspapers in Shanghai, such as Ma Da, Chen Nianyun, Feng Yingzi, Lu Yi, and Gu Tinglong, director of the Shanghai Library, spoke successively, recalling Mr. Duhe's positive contributions to the mainland news and library undertakings. Shortly thereafter, Mada's speech at the meeting was published in the "News Reporter" magazine under the title of "Learning from Mr. Yan Duhe's Patriotic Spirit." After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Mr. Duhe continued to write essays in the "News Daily, New Garden", criticizing the soaring prices in the Kuomintang area and the corruption of the people's livelihood, and listing three articles, including "Impressions of the Duanyang Festival", to expose the perverse behavior of the Kuomintang. Coincidentally, Ms. Yan Ruzhen, the second daughter of Mr. Duhe, also wrote "My Father - Yan Duhe, a senior in the press" (published in "Luwan History, No. 3, Celebrity Album") in November 1991, which also talked about this article. It is not difficult to search, the original title of the article "Duanyang's Impressions", published in the "News Daily" on June 23, 1947 on the day of the Dragon Boat Festival, signed as Sizhao. But what is puzzling is that how can it be seen from the old gentleman's handwriting? After all, there are no records in several common pen name reference books, such as Xu Yixiang and Qin Hong's "List of Writers of Modern Chinese Literature" and Chen Yutang's "Dictionary of Modern and Contemporary Chinese Character Names".

Later, I had the opportunity to read the "One Hundred Editors and Reporters" edited by Wang Zhiyi, Ren Jiayao and Zhang Youji of Xuelin Publishing House in 1985, which included the article "Yan Duhe and the Supplement of the News Daily" by Yan Zuqi, the eldest son of Mr. Duhe, in which the old man often paid attention to selecting article materials from the letters from readers, and also paid attention to the readers' reflections after the article was published in the newspaper: "After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, I worked in the factory, and he often asked the workers in my factory about their work fatigue, living conditions, and what they thought and hoped for in their daily lives. What is needed", "At that time, prices soared, the people did not have a good life, he had repeatedly discussed the issue of prices and living index in 1947, and many workers felt happy after reading and thought that they had spoken their hearts. Before the Duanyang Festival that year, the price of rice soared several times, and he wrote "Duanyang's Impressions" to play this phenomenon, pointing out that if this continues, "I am afraid that most ordinary people will have to go to the abyss to meet Qu Yuan." This is what I heard in the small talk with the workers in the factory, and he applied it to the article after reflecting it to him. ”

After repeated press, the quotation comes from the last paragraph of "Duanyang's Impressions", the author compares the custom of Duanyang dragon boat racing to the price of ferry, "A rose ten thousand times, B rose to twenty thousand times, propylene pentahex as the method bubble (cannon), and the cycle is endless, so thirty thousand, fifty thousand, one hundred thousand times, no different." Then, naturally, it led to the ironic words that brought most of the people into the abyss to meet Qu Yuan. In addition to laughing, it is enough for today's people to have a deeper understanding of the difficulties of the world at that time.

Of course, this is enough to prove that Si Zhao is Yan Duhe's pen name. (Zhu Chunxiang)
