Geoffrey Kim, a 52-year-old cosmetic surgeon in Colorado, and his anesthesia nurse have been charged with manslaughter. In August 2019, when he performed breast augmentation surgery for 18-year-old Emmalyn Nguyen, the patient suffered a cardiac arrest after being anesthetized, and instead of immediately sending the patient to the emergency room, doctors and nurses did not immediately take the patient to the emergency room, but spent 5 hours on their own, resulting in the death of the patient's left brain and the inability to walk, and the death of the patient 14 months later. In December 2019, the deceased's family filed a civil lawsuit against the doctor and nurse, and in June 2021, the two sides reached an out-of-court settlement with $2 million in damages.
