Don't casually say that your child's mobility is hyperactivity

Lemon recently received a message from a mother, she said that his son is always making trouble all day long, jumping up and down and shouting, can not sit quietly for a minute, even if he obeys the order to sit down is also crooked, as if he can never be quiet, does this situation indicate that the child has ADHD?

Let's first look at what is ADHD, the full name of ADHD is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), which is a common type of psychological disorder in childhood. On the mainland, 5-10% of children have ADHD.

In the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders published by the American Psychiatric Association, the symptoms of ADHD are mainly:

1 Attention deficits, including difficulty concentrating and excessive concentration of attention, cannot be reasonably transferred

2 Overactive and non-stop

At first glance, it may seem that children who are too active are ADHD, but this is actually a misunderstanding, and such random labeling can also have a negative impact on children.

Don't casually say that your child's mobility is hyperactivity

To take an example of my previous counseling: Kang Kang is a first-grade student this year, he is a very active and lively child, no matter where he is, he can't sit still, he always likes to move around. I can't concentrate on my studies at all, and I will suddenly leave my seat in class... On the surface, Kang Kang does seem to have ADHD, but the real situation still needs to be observed more closely and communicated more deeply, and after talking with him, I found that Kang Kang did not have ADHD.

First of all, the reason why Kang Kang left the position in class is not because he can't sit still, but because he has his own entertainment time, he thinks that the primary school is the same as the kindergarten, there is play time, there is no concept of sitting for 40 minutes to listen to the class;

Secondly, Kang Kang's attention is not difficult to concentrate, nor is it too concentrated, it is difficult for him to calm down when he is studying, but he is very focused when he plays games and watches TV, and you call him also reactive, not blindly immersed in his own world;

Finally, Kang Kang's "bad temper" is not pathological, but a problem of family education, parents want to make him happy on the line, so Kang Kang's requirements will be satisfied, as for the cultivation of personality habits, some neglect ...

Do you know a little about ADHD and hyperactivity now? Many times we only see the information we think we have, but do not delve into the reasons behind it, which may make us misunderstand our children's words and deeds.

Don't casually say that your child's mobility is hyperactivity

So what should parents do about active children?

First make sure that the child is not ADHD, don't arbitrarily label the child with such a negative label, the more you say that the child is not good, the more the child may become bad.

Secondly, seeing the child watching TV and playing mobile phones, dishonest, and throwing tantrums, the subconscious reaction of the parents may be to stop and let him not move, but in this way you only tell the child not to do anything, but did not tell him how to do, the child does not do anything right, it will aggravate the original problem behavior;

Finally, I hope that parents can spend more time with their children, take their children to talk and laugh every day, have a pleasant parent-child time, the child's mood is relaxed, the concentration will naturally increase, and they can play with the child while training the child's attention.

In addition, Lemon should also remind parents not to casually say that their children have "ADHD", which cannot help the child's physical and mental development, and may also cause children to misunderstand themselves.
