Today is the 67th birthday of writer Mo Yan.
As China's first Nobel Laureate in Literature, in the 10 years after winning the prize, he hid in his hometown of Gaomi, not watching TV or surfing the Internet.

Of course, he continued to work hard and published the short and medium story collection "Late Ripening Man".

Mo Yan firmly believes that there is no eternal success, but you can choose to grow all the time.
Late ripening, he has always lived his life at his own pace and without hurry.
"Some people are timid when they are young, and then they are more and more bold, and some people, when they are less timid, they are more and more timid when they grow up, which is the difference between early puberty and late maturation."
This is Mo Yan's interpretation of precocious and late maturation in "The Late Maturing Man".
Mo Yan was timid, this was his own admission.
He once said, "In everyday life, I can be a grandson, a coward, a poor worm." ”
As a child, he was particularly timid and sensitive. I didn't dare to go out at night, and I didn't dare to go into the crop field alone during the day.
He couldn't tell what he was afraid of, and when he walked, he always felt that something was behind him.
According to his words, when he passed by crops, trees, and graves alone, he was afraid that something unknown would suddenly come out.
For childhood memories, in addition to timidity and fear, there is also about hunger.
At the age of 12, he was so hungry that he had the courage to pluck a turnip from the production team to fill his hunger. When his father found out, he was beaten when he caught him.
What is even more poignant is that one winter, the village primary school bought a truckload of coal.
The children were so hungry that they rushed up and took the coal block and stuffed it in their mouths.
Mo Yan was also among them, and also recommended to the teacher that it was delicious.
Later, he was forced to drop out of school. When cattle are herding and farmers are busy, they also have to go down to the fields to cultivate the land. Because he could not afford the heavy farm work, he was often rebuked by his father.
As an unpleasant member of the family, Mo Yan's pleasure is to go to a distance alone to herd cattle and sheep.
Lying on the grass, bored, he began to try to talk to everything he could see.
For a while, a storyteller came up to the market. He sneaked off to listen to the book, so he forgot to work.
However, this did not affect his exuberant desire to express himself, and he especially loved to relay to his mother the stories he had heard from the storyteller.
In the process, he constantly "added oil and vinegar" and even tampered with the ending of the story.
After listening to the story, my mother often said worriedly: "Son, what kind of person will you become when you grow up?" Do you have to eat by playing poor mouths? ”
In the village, a poor child is unpopular and sometimes causes trouble for himself and his family.
His mother reminded him to talk less in the hope that he could be a taciturn, stable and generous child.
But "the country is easy to change, and the nature is difficult to move."
Despite the careful teachings of his parents, he did not change his nature of liking to talk and think wildly, which is also the origin of his pen name "Mo Yan".
Thus, literature began to make him bold.
When he first learned to write, in order to get inspiration, he went out many times late at night, along the river embankment, facing the moonlight, and walked all the way forward, sometimes not coming home until dawn.
To be able to go out at night is that love overcomes fear.
He needs to stimulate himself, find different experiences, capture different feelings.
Su Dongpo once said: "The milk urn is very full, and the world is really cramped." ”
But the late maturing person, when waiting for a suitable era, there is a stage suitable for him to show his talents, he will suddenly shine.
It's also a kind of growth and wealth.
"Late ripening people, like pines in the mountains in winter, although their waists are bent, they are ready to go."
In "The Late Maturing Man", Mo Yan said this metaphorically.
Because he loves to read, he has also made many jokes in his late maturity. At that time, my classmates had a copy of "Fengshen Yanyi" at home.
Knowing that Mo Yan loved to read, his classmates joked:
Help pull five circles of grinding, you can read a page of the book. In order to read the book, Mo Yan really "made a cow and a horse" to grind.
In order to stay up late to watch "The Song of the Euro Sea", he hung an oil lamp on the door frame.
The light was very small, and the more I looked at him, the more I leaned forward, and if I was not careful, the light scorched my head.
Mo Yan once said:
"My desire to read is no less than my desire for dumplings."
In particular, in 1976, Mo Yan went to Longkou, 300 kilometers away from home, to serve as a soldier.
There are many people in the army who love literature, and when publications come, everyone rushes to read them. After reading more, he was eager to try and secretly learned to write.
Mo Yan's first novel, "Spring Night Rain and Mist", was published in the 5th issue of Lotus Pond in 1981.
This also marks the official launch of the pen name "Mo Yan".
During his 4 years as a librarian in the army, he read a large number of literary, philosophical and historical books.
Especially after successfully entering the Literature Department of the People's Liberation Army Academy of Arts, he almost didn't think or do anything except reading and creating.
These books he had read and written were deeply rooted in his heart, and they also inspired Mo Yan's abundant creative inspiration in the future.
The famous work "Transparent Carrot" was created at this time.
After seeing this work, the famous writer Zhang Jie once exclaimed: "In 1985, a major event happened in the Chinese literary circles, that is, There was Mo Yan. ”
Soon after, the publication of Red Sorghum confirmed this view again.
"Red Sorghum takes a different approach to war fiction.
In the mid-1980s, when there were many old literary concepts that seriously bound the minds of writers, such novels should still have a certain degree of shock. ”

These works have won numerous awards at home and abroad, and are also loved by readers, and have achieved peaks on the road of Mo Yan literature.
From dropping out of elementary school to winning the Nobel Prize in Literature, Mo Yan used his own experience to interpret his understanding of "late ripening".
In his view, "late ripening" represents the spirit of seeking innovation and change.
He hoped that he would mature late and keep his artistic life and creativity longer.
As the famous critic Li Jingze said:
Because of the advent of Mo Yan's book, late ripening will also become a popular word, which has both wisdom and represents an indomitable spirit.
This spirit is embodied in the fact that it is obviously the front wave, rolling on the beach and standing up and becoming the back wave, which is the spirit of late ripening. ”
Late ripening means that anything is possible.
Therefore, life does not start too late, only gives up too early.
"I wasn't mature enough, not sleek enough, not sophisticated enough. It doesn't matter, I'm just a late bloomer. ”
Mo Yan admits that he is a late bloomer.
After Mo Yan won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2012, it sparked some controversy.
At first, he thought that the object of everyone's dispute was himself.
Gradually, he felt that the object of the controversy was a person who had nothing to do with him.
He was like a spectator, seeing that the winner was covered with flowers, stones were thrown, and sewage was poured on it.
Mo Yan was afraid that he would be crushed, but he smiled and drilled out of the flowers and stones, wiped the dirty water off his body, and stood calmly to the side...
As he says in Frog:
"Over the years, I've learned that the best way to solve a tough problem is to wait and see what happens and push the boat along the way."
Care is chaotic, wait and see, some things slowly look down, some people also slowly see clearly.
"Mo Yan, don't you think that your literary level is very high, and don't think that only you are capable in our township, are you honestly saying that my literary level is below you?"

These two passages come from Mo Yan's cousin and cousin.
In "Late Bloomers", Mo Yan recounts what happened after becoming famous:
A large group of relatives and friends suddenly appeared, using his name in various ways to make money.
Watching him soar, many people can't help but feel jealous. Cousins and cousins began to blatantly blackmail him!
In this way, all kinds of messy things came, and Mo Yan hid in his hometown and did not dare to go out.
In search of peace, he changed his mobile phone number and allowed only a very small number of people to contact him.
This experience also confirms what he said in "Late Ripening":
"People of good nature ripen late, and they are ripened by 'inferior people'.
Later, although he was enlightened, he was still kind and sincere, constantly looking for the same kind, and finally became the loneliest one. ”
Even if they are lonely, even if such people are mature, they will still have the simplicity of their hearts, still love life, and are willing to accumulate and precipitate.
Mo Yan wrote in "Late Ripening People":
"When others are clever and clever, we are silly and stupid;
When other people's hearts are exhausted and gradually enter a decadent state, we happen to be enlightened and blind. ”
No one's life is in vain, but the time to awaken is sooner or later.
