The Late Bloomer is the first new work by the famous Chinese writer Mo Yan after winning the Nobel Prize in Literature, consisting of 12 short stories, which was published by the People's Literature Publishing House in August 2020.
When I accidentally saw the book at the leader's place, I borrowed it for the first time. After reading the four articles of "Left Sickle", "Late Ripening Man", "Fighter" and "Thief Finger Flower" in one breath, when I was ready to read other articles at night, I was isolated in the factory area by the epidemic prevention and control policy and could not go home. In the dead of night, I missed this book more and more, because I also went through other stories, but I never saw my heart go, and there were many question marks in my heart. Especially thinking of the passage "Farmers of this age, they don't travel, they need to work in this season, they need to go into plastic greenhouses to serve vegetables... Without them, the village would have become a dead village, and the land would have become a desert," although it was also recorded in the book at home, but in any case I could not remember which chapter in the book it was. I had to let the child take pictures and send them to me, it turned out that it was not in "Cousin Ning Saiye", nor in "Bathhouse and Red Bed", it was in "Thief Finger Flower", only to blame me for watching it too quickly.
Since I was a child, I am a person who likes to listen to stories, and Teacher Mo Yan is a very good storyteller. Composed of 12 short stories, "The Late Maturing Man" narrates different stories, disconnected from each other, and are independent chapters. "Mo Yan" wrote "Mo Yan" into the story, each story has his participation, every character in the story is vivid, the details are very well described, the truth is as if the story happened around you and me, can't help but go to the number to sit in.
For a literature lover, I also learned a lot about literary creation. Prose creation, do not be too realistic. Without literature, it is easy to become a running account and reduce the level of works. Also don't have someone else's real name, avoid unnecessary trouble, and use pronouns or aliases (but the reader knows it). For example, "red sorghum" was changed to "yellow corn", which avoided copyright issues. Other writers have similar operations, such as "Shaolin" was registered as a trademark, many works in order to avoid suspicion, changed the "Shaolin sect" to "monk faction".
After the quarantine was lifted, I read several other articles. Everyone lives in society, they are all people in society, and a grain of dust of the times falling on individuals is a big mountain. Each of the 12 stories has a protagonist, and they represent different types of people in the countryside. There is "cousin Ning Saiye" who loves literature and has not yet become famous, there is "Sun Laiyu" who loves the land as much as his grandfather, there are Internet celebrities who make a fortune from self-media, "master planner Qin Guiying", and there is writer "Wu Yingjie", "Three Uncles" who can whistle... I was impressed by every story.
With the help of Jiang Erzhi, the protagonist of "Late Ripening Man" in the text, I will say how I feel, I am also a late-ripening person, working for twenty years, but I have not been able to have an official and a half-job, and I do not have much savings: people with good nature are late-ripening, and they are ripened by "inferior people", and although they are enlightened later, they are still kind and sincere. Constantly looking for the same kind, but finally became the loneliest one.
Late ripening, late ripening, as long as you like it. Nearly forty years old, everyone has their own way, all avenues lead to Rome, just go.
