Fig tree

Jiang Baobing

Fig is one of the oldest cultivated fruit trees in the world, with more than 5,000 years of cultivation history from around 3000 BC to the present. In ancient Roman legend, figs were called "holy fruits" and were used as sacrificial fruits.

Figs were introduced to the mainland around the Tang Dynasty, about 1300 years ago. The Tang Dynasty called it Dizhen, "The tree is long and long, the branches and leaves are luxuriant, the leaves have five leaves like castor, no flowers and fruit, the color is red persimmon, and the taste is also like persimmon." "In fact, figs have flowers, hidden in the inverted oval sac-shaped total flower tray, the inflorescence is like a fig shape, but the top is not fully sealed, the flowers are hidden inside, the flower shape is small, the unisexual flowers, generally male flowers on the top, female flowers on the bottom, but there are also only male flowers or female flowers in the flower tray, from the outside can not see the flowers, botanically called hidden head inflorescence, and when the flowers are finished, the top mouth is also closed.

There is a fig tree in my yard that I got from a colleague's house more than a decade ago. Originally, the fig was just a shrub, a very short bush. But the one in my house was three or four meters tall, already as high as the eaves. But still without sheding the shape of a shrub, a few thick branches protruded from the ground and erected a green shade.

When spring is in full swing, the cherry trees and pear trees in the yard, as well as the flowers and grasses planted on the ground, such as the moon season and the hydrangea flowers, have blossomed, showing their beauty of zi yan red, even Ling Xiao outside the wall, also stretched into a cluster of Ling Xiao flowers in the courtyard to join in the fun, but the figs are still green in the branches, in the bustle of a faction of red and willow green, alone and lonely.

Every year in July, the figs hang on the branches in a green way, and the fruit of the figs emerges as soon as the new leaves are emitted, and there are one or two small fruits under each leaf, (at that time, it can only be called buds). By July and August, I started to grow up. But the real maturity is already in September. Figs do not bloom, sit fruit, and ripen like ordinary fruits. From the beginning of the ripening period to November, the figs continue to grow new leaves, and they continue to produce small fruits, and then they continue to grow and mature again. The season when the figs ripen is also our happiest season. In the gaps of the green leaves, the ivory fruit stalks and purple and colorful figs are very cute from time to time. Figs have a mutated process from green fruit to ripe purple fruit. So you can keep finding ripe fruit on the tree. No matter how carefully you searched before, you'll be able to catch all the ripe fruit. But before long, when you look again, you will be able to find ripe figs in the leaves.

The figs are ripe, peel off the outer layer of peel, the flesh is like a ripe banana, but also a bit like strawberry jam, the melted flesh has some sesame-like black seeds inside, the taste is sweet and sweet, a little earthy, and the taste is also a little astringent. The newly ripe fruit is very attractive, but soon its color will fade day by day. The fruit also quickly withered, and a gust of wind blew through, and it fell to the ground, falling into the dust.

Whenever the figs ripen, savvy birds will sneak up on them. Usually, if it were not for the sweetness of the fruit that makes the birds can't help but chirp, it would not easily penetrate those dense leaves to find birds that steal fruit. Whenever we heard that a bird was stealing food, we would go to drive it away, and my mother always said, "Leave the figs that cannot be reached at the height for the birds to eat!" "Even so, those lovely fruits could not escape the doom of being pecked at by birds. After driving away the nasty birds, it was found that the slightly more ripe fruit had already been pecked by the birds with a large hole, and many ants could be seen dragging the flesh. Now, the cherry and pear trees in the yard are just topped with green leaves, while the fig trees are full of fruit.

What a tree this is! There are no branches, no flower confessions, no rendering, no display, enduring loneliness, and in obscurity, offering fruits that are not only sweet but also practical. Involuntarily, I glanced up at my fig tree. Looking at the fig tree in the courtyard, I thought that my mother was actually like this fig tree, she worked hard every day, washed and cooked, and worked tirelessly. Not only did she raise a few of our sisters, but even the granddaughters and granddaughters of the next generation were raised, and her love for her children was simple and introverted. The love of parents for their children is great, selfless, unspoken love, and perhaps this is what is missing in this materialistic era.

Whoever says anything will be rewarded with three Chunhui. Friends, when our parents are alive, we must offer a filial piety as much as possible, so that the scale of "filial piety" will never be out of balance, so that we can walk in peace of mind after a hundred years of parents, and we will not feel regrets.
