Ye Wanqiao (1896–1977), the character Tieshan, the number of the companion maple. After liberation, he organized the "Lotus Lake Painting Club" in Xi'an with Zhang Hanshan and other painters, which contributed to the development and prosperity of Chinese painting in Liang'an. In 1957, he was transferred to the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts to teach. He was loyal to the cause of education, never tired of learning, tireless in teaching others, and cultivated a large number of artistic talents.
His paintings of flowers and birds are both vivid and natural, especially known for their freehand paintings of flowers, birds, fish and insects. His works are exquisitely conceived, fresh and elegant, and pay attention to pen and ink interest. In his early years, he studied under Xu Qingteng, Chen Baiyang, Yun Nantian, Silla Shanren, etc., and after middle age, he was influenced by Ren Bonian, Wu Changshuo, and Zhang Shuqi.
He advocated attaching importance to sketching on the basis of tradition. It is believed that "painting is too much like a loss of consciousness, not like distortion." Painting needs to be both physical and divine, vivid in pen and ink, elegant and popular, and try to make people from all walks of life acceptable. ”
