The origin of the Lantern Festival
On the fifteenth day of the first month in 180 BC, Emperor Wen of Han ascended the throne and pardoned the world. In the future, every fifteenth day of the first month, the emperor will go out of the palace to play, put on the lights, and have fun with the people. Unlike other traditional festivals that emphasize "family reunion", the Lantern Festival emphasizes "universal celebration". On the night of the Lantern Festival, the streets and alleys are full of lights. People enjoy the lanterns and guess the riddles of the lanterns, which will continue from Chinese New Year's Eve to another climax, becoming a custom that has been passed down from generation to generation.

1. The practice is different
The tangyuan is "wrapped" out, the skin is smooth and sticky; the Lantern is "rolling", and the skin is dry and soft.
2. The filling is different
The tangyuan filling is soft, and there are many salty and sweet meat and vegetarian options (some areas will have plum vegetable buckle meat, shiitake mushroom fresh meat filling); lantern filling is hard, generally sweet (black sesame seeds, peanuts, bean paste, etc.).
3. Eat differently
Tangyuan is mostly eaten boiled and fried; the Lantern is mostly fried and eaten, and it can also be eaten boiled.
4. Storage is different
Tangyuan can be frozen up and has a long shelf life; Lantern freezing is easy to crack and has a short shelf life.

Bijie Tangyuan
Bijie tangyuan is triangular. There are more than ten varieties of washed sand, dates, suma, rock sugar, orange cake, rose, ham, sesame seeds, walnuts and so on. Some are soft and smooth, some are sweet and cool, some are dry and fragrant, and some are fruity.
Xingyi chicken dumplings

In Guizhou, the lantern festival activities are also colorful. For example, in the Area of Zunyi Xishui, there is a custom of "burning locusts".
Every year during the Lantern Festival, after eating tangyuan in the morning, the young people in the village gather together and go up the mountain to cut bamboo. Families also took out dry wood, chose a large open space in the village, and piled up the bamboo and wood they had cut back, and after dinner, the whole village of old people and children "burned locusts" together, a custom that has been passed down for hundreds of years, and today, it is actually a large bonfire party.

According to legend, on the day of the Lantern Festival, "burning locusts" prays for a good harvest of crops in the coming year of the whole village, the safety and health of the elderly and children in the village, and also to meet new hopes and remember the past.
On the night of the Lantern Festival, villagers will also sing mountain songs around the firelight, and after the "locusts" are burned, they will light torches and walk around the village. From a distance, lights and fireworks shine through the mountains.

In the middle of the night, the young people in the village will organize a "stealing youth" together.
Stealing green is the traditional custom of Xishui village, every night of the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, go to other homes to "steal vegetables", stealing is generally the vegetables in the villagers' fields, stealing everything has a meaning, such as lettuce means "wealth", radish head means "color head", green onion means "people are smart", garlic means "good plan", in order to please a good "color head".
There are also many conventions for "stealing" Qing: one is not to steal too much, the other is that it must be eaten in time, and when it is found when stealing Qing, it will bring good luck to the other party in the coming year, and everyone is happy in it.
