When Wei Zong heard that he wanted to play Sima Yi, his first reaction was to refuse, for three reasons.
Wei Zongwan began to watch Peking Opera from the age of 6, and the Sima Yi in the play was white-faced, bearded, and timid as a mouse, which was too much in contrast with himself.
At that time, the trend of costume drama was just rising, Wei Zongwan had a lot of criticism of this kind of drama, thinking that the lines in it were not ancient and modern, and the actor's walking posture was not correct, like walking in tourist shoes and leather shoes, he was very rejective of costume drama.
Filming war scenes requires riding horses, but Wei Zongwan does not.
Zhang Jizhong listened and immediately dispelled Wei Zongwan's concerns one by one.
First of all, TV dramas and Peking opera are not the same, pay attention to realism, Sima Yi is not necessarily white-faced and bearded.
Secondly, Wei Zongwan is a little difficult to accept the costume drama, it is better to act it himself, it is a big deal to let others laugh.
In the end, the crew specifically found a double for Wei Zongwan to ride a horse.
As a result, Wei Zongwan followed Zhang Jizhong to Beijing, stayed in the hotel for two weeks, during which Wei Zongwan read the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" intensively, and even concluded that Sima Yi and Zhuge Liang dueled, Sima Yi's winning rate was 52%, Zhuge Liang's winning rate was 38%, and the remaining 10% of the two sides were tied.

Of course, Wei Zongwan's performance of Sima Yi was by no means self-contained, and he also had his own understanding.
For example, there is a scene where Zhuge Liang sent someone to send Sima Yi a woman's clothes, and Sima Yi happily put them on for display, and said to the envoy to go back and thank you for your family.
The original book of this play only described "Sima Yi suffered it, and his heart was angry", Wei Zongwan asked whether he could add specific actions of wearing women's clothes here, he felt that this would show Sima Yi's calm and leisure.
But the deputy director felt inappropriate, Wei Zongwan insisted on keeping, he also recalled a "cruel word" he originally released in a later interview: "Let's go to the director Wang Fulin theory, if it passes it, it is your credit, if not passed, the crew will bear the shooting cost of 10,000 or 20,000 a day!" ”
In the end, the scene passed smoothly, wei Zongwan's "overheated" treatment made the role of Sima Yi more plump, and later Ni Dahong's version also retained the scene in women's clothing.
Saying that it was too much, Wei Zongwan always danced with shackles, and he did not lose Sima Yi's soul.
On the other hand, Ni Dahong did not grasp the scale and performance method when creating, which made Sima Yi go crazy.
