Google: Spent $8.7 million in 2021 to reward people who find vulnerabilities

IT House reported on February 12 that in order to improve the security of its products and platforms, Google has launched a bug bounty program (VRP) for Android, Google Play, Chrome and web services. Officially, this spending increased by $2 million to $8.7 million in 2021.

Google said we are pleased to report that a record $8,700,000 in 2021 was awarded for a bug, and researchers donated more than $300,000 to charity.

IT House learned that Chrome VRP once again topped the list with $3,288,000, of which $3.1 million was for browser-related errors and $250,500 for Chrome OS. Chrome OS's maximum reward amount is $45,000, with a total of 115 researchers receiving rewards.

Android followed, spending $2,935,244, a sharp jump from $1.74 million last year. The highest Android VRP spending in history was for "a chain of exploits found in Android and rewarded with $157,000."
