However, there are also users who have found that such devices can be misused, such as placing them in places unknown to others, allowing individuals to be tracked.

In order to put an end to this phenomenon, Apple and Google announced a joint submission of a draft industry specification to help address the abuse of Bluetooth location tracking devices. This industry specification will allow Bluetooth location tracking devices to be compatible with detection and alerting for unauthorized tracking across iOS and Android platforms. In addition, brands including Samsung, Tile, Chipolo, eufy Security and Pebblebee also expressed support for the draft specification.

The emergence of this industry norm will help users deal with the abuse of tracking functions on iOS and Android. In addition, the code was introduced with input from various security and advocacy organizations. 

It is understood that the specification has been submitted as an Internet draft through the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). During the consultation period, Apple and Google will work together to process the feedback, and will publish production practices for the Abuse Tracking Alert specification by the end of 2023, which will be supported in future iOS and Android versions.
