A few days ago, at the 2022 Beijing News Center, Jilin Province launched a theme exhibition of "Jilin Elements" to show the cultural charm of Jilin to friends from all over the world.
The exhibition area has both cultural exhibits and intangible cultural heritage experience interaction.
The Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience Area has three intangible cultural heritage displays in Jilin Province: chagan lake fish skin making techniques, Xu's Chinese knot and Dongliao gourd painting. Xu Yu, the inheritor of the fish skin making skills of Chagan Lake, prepared many works for the Winter Olympics that embody "the Winter Olympics in Beijing, the experience in Jilin, and the development in Jilin".
Xu Yu: Such a work mainly reflects the culture plus fishing and hunting culture, using powder snow particles, all the objects on it are hand-stitched with fish skin, and the four inheritors of this work have been doing it for 19 days.
The work shows the athletes skiing, as well as the Winter Olympic emblem. In addition to this work, there are also "ice piers" and "snow melting" made of fish skins.
There are many kinds of fish skin products in Chagan Lake, and in the past, the Chagan Naoer people would use fish skin to make costumes, pendants, totems, etc., and fish skin painting is one of them. Through this exhibition, Xu Yu hopes to show Jilin culture to the world.
Xu Yu: I want the people of the whole country and even the world to understand the fishing and hunting culture, ice and snow culture of Jilin Province, so that people can see the cultural self-confidence of non-hereditary inheritors and ordinary people.
