The application for the Central Axis of Beijing has passed the format review of the UNESCO World Heritage Center, marking the beginning of the sprint stage of the application for the Central Axis of Beijing. As a group of 7.8-kilometer-long huge building complexes and urban space assemblages, the protection and development of Beijing's central axis will also enter a new stage.

The central axis of Beijing is a historical heritage line. Originated in the Yuan, formed in the Ming, perfected in the Qing, developed in modern times, the central axis of Beijing has been more than 750 years ago, is the soul and backbone of Beijing. The central axis stretches from the Bell and Drum Tower in the north to the Yongding Gate in the south, and 14 important heritage sites such as the Temple of Heaven, the Xiannong Temple, the Zhengyang Gate, the Taimiao Temple, and the Wanchun Pavilion are distributed in an orderly manner on both sides of the 7.8-kilometer central axis, which are the true relics of Beijing's history and witness the pace of Beijing's urban change. Walking on the central axis, it is as if you have crossed into the corridor of history, and you can feel the turmoil of historical changes with the whole city. Together with the buffer zone of about 51.4 square kilometers on both sides of the central axis, these heritages constitute the elements of Beijing's central axis application.

Since the central axis application was first proposed in 2009, it has gone through more than a dozen years in a down-to-earth manner and step by step. The process of applying for heritage is also the process of protection and development of the central axis, the process of implementing urban planning, strengthening the protection of the old city, inheriting history and culture, showing the style of the capital, and telling the story of China.
