"I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the scientists, engineers, technicians, and cadres and workers who have worked tenaciously on the front of science, technology, and industry for national defense!" President Xi Jinping's important speech at the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army has deeply encouraged all soldiers and workers on the front of national defense science, technology and industry. In September 2021, the Party Central Committee approved the first batch of great spirits sorted out by the Central Propaganda Department to be included in the spiritual genealogy of the Chinese Communists, and the spirit of craftsmen was included, and the soldiers and workers were greatly inspired.
On the eve of the Spring Festival in 2022, a special lecture tour will be held in Beijing. The lecturer of China North Industries Group Co., Ltd. told the touching story of the older generation of soldiers and workers who worked hard to start a business and worked hard.
Offstage, the employees of China North Industries Group were deeply encouraged after listening to the report meeting. More than four months ago, at the 13th China International Aerospace Expo, China North Industries Group Co., Ltd. exhibited more than 150 products. These products not only represent the highest level of weapons and equipment for the mainland army's foreign trade, but also convey a message -- the scientific and technological innovation, independent research and development, and advanced manufacturing capabilities of the mainland's defense industry have reached a new level.
Over the past 91 years, the people's military industry has bred the lofty belief of "dedicating everything to the party," formed the glorious tradition of "self-reliance, arduous struggle, pioneering spirit, and selfless dedication," and witnessed the development process of the military industry under the leadership of the Communist Party of China from scratch, from less to more, and from weak to strong.
From scratch
"No guns, no cannons, we make ourselves"
In an ordinary house on the site of an old Central Red Army Arsenal, 3 craftsmen worked on the case. They were concentrating, some measuring the weight of gunpowder, some filling gunpowder... These three statues vividly recreate the scene of the workers of the Guantian Arsenal in the past making mines.
In 1931, with the third victory against encirclement and suppression, a serious problem was faced by the Red Army: a large number of captured guns needed to be dismantled during transportation, and it was very difficult to assemble them later.
Therefore, the Communist Party of China set up the first comprehensive arsenal in Guantian Village, Xingguo County, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province, the Guantian Arsenal.
It is hard to imagine that at that time, the entire belongings of the Guantian Arsenal were only 4 iron furnaces, more than 200 files and more than 100 vices. Comrade Zhu De once sighed: "All the belongings have not yet been paved with Wang Ermazi scissors. ”
"No guns, no cannons, we build ourselves." The soldiers and workers relied on themselves and worked hard to start a business, and with the revolutionary enthusiasm of "we sweat more, and the class brothers shed less blood", they overcame one unimaginable difficulty after another. In 2 years and 8 months, they manually built more than 40,000 rifles, more than 400,000 rounds of ammunition, and more than 60,000 grenades, which strongly supported the anti-encirclement and suppression struggle. Comrade Zhou Enlai praised: "This contingent of soldiers and engineers has created unprecedented achievements in history. ”
In October 1934, the Fifth Anti-Encirclement and Suppression Campaign of the Central Red Army failed and began the 25,000-mile Long March. Along the way, 108 soldiers of the Guantian Arsenal produced while marching and fighting, and finally only 7 arrived in northern Shaanxi alive.
"Unswervingly following the party and dedicating everything to the party" was the lofty pursuit of the military workers of that era.
The surviving 7 people were like a ball of fire, which developed and grew in the Revolutionary Base Area of Shaanxi, Gansu and Ningxia. With the establishment of the new arsenal, the people's military industry began the pace of reconstruction in northern Shaanxi.
On July 7, 1937, Japanese imperialism launched an all-out war of aggression against China. In order to arm the anti-Japanese struggle, Comrade Mao Zedong sent a telegram to Zhou Enlai and Zhu De, who were on the anti-Japanese front: "We must add 10,000 rifles in one year, and the main method is to make them ourselves. ”
From the mountains to the rivers, from the jungle to the plains, under extremely harsh circumstances, the soldiers of the Eighth Route Army and the New Fourth Army began to try from repair to weapons.
Without advanced production equipment, the soldiers and workers combined folk wisdom with scientific creation to create "Bayi-type" horse rifles, grenadiers, and other weapons "made in the border areas", thus enhancing the combat effectiveness of the troops. These rudimentary weapons and equipment became the historical imprint of that era.
In order to maximize support for the War of Resistance, in July 1939, the Eighth Route Army Arsenal Headquarters Repair Center was transferred to the forward position - Huangyadong, and expanded to become the largest arsenal behind enemy lines in North China at that time.
In November 1941, in order to destroy the arsenal, the Japanese army launched an attack on Huangyadong. In the battle to defend Huangyadong, all the staff and workers of the arsenal set up workers' self-defense units, reconnaissance teams, and mine teams, and fought with the soldiers for several days. The battle ended with the annihilation of more than 1,000 enemy casualties and 6:1 casualties.
After the defense of Huangyadong, in order to facilitate concealment, the arsenal was divided into 3 roads and continued to organize production in the Taihang Mountains. The rebirth of the Huangyadong Arsenal is a microcosm of the development and growth of our military arsenal in that era.
During the Liberation War, the demand for weapons and ammunition from officers and men on the front line surged sharply, and taking over while liberating and providing support while producing became an important task in the construction of military engineering in northeast China at that time.
In the Battle of Huaihai alone, soldiers and workers provided more than 200,000 shells. Comrade Su Yu said with emotion: "The victory in the East China Battlefield, especially in the Huaihai Campaign, is inseparable from the small carts of the people of Shandong and the shells produced in Dalian. ”
After the founding of New China, the weapons industry quickly completed the construction of the five major industries of tanks, armored vehicles, artillery, projectiles and arrows, explosives, and optoelectronic information, and took the lead in building a complete, professional, and independent and complete weaponry development and production system in the field of science, technology, and industry for national defense, thus providing a powerful guarantee for the victory in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea and border operations.
From "the enemy sent us" to "we built it ourselves," the people's military industry has undergone the baptism and tempering of the flames and smoke of war, and has made historic contributions to the independence and liberation of the Chinese nation and to the national defense construction of New China and the development of the national defense industry.

"Its beginning is also simple, and its will be great"
On the desk of Li Yanhui, a full-time member of the Science and Technology Committee of the Northwest Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of China North Industries Group Co., Ltd., there is a novel , "Dedicate Everything to the Party."
Published in 1953, this autobiographical novel has been translated into 7 languages and has so far been distributed in more than 10 million copies, which has deeply influenced generations of soldiers and workers. Its author is Wu Yunduo, a soldier who was praised by Premier Zhou Enlai as "China's Paul Kochakin".
In the autumn of 1941, a batch of mortar shells that were in urgent need of repair were delivered to Wu Yunduo. In order to improve the efficiency of maintenance, he removed the detonator from the waste dud and dug up the mercury to make explosives. Just as he was digging in with the shovel, the detonator suddenly made a loud noise...
When the comrades-in-arms found Wu Yunduo, he was covered in blood, his face was covered with honeycomb-like wounds, his left eye was blown into a blur of blood and flesh, and his left hand was half amputated except for his thumb, the remaining 4 fingers were all blown off, and his left leg and knee were exploded. He was in a coma in the hospital for 15 days, and the first thing he said when he woke up was, "I'm going back to the factory!" I'm going back, I'm going back, waiting ahead for the shells..."
In the process of developing gun and ammunition, Wu Yunduo was seriously injured three times, leaving more than 100 scars of various sizes on his body, and experienced more than 20 surgeries, leaving dozens of pieces of shrapnel left in his body that could not be removed. Later, some media praised Wu Yunduo for "how steel is made." In 2009, he was named "100 Heroic And Exemplary Figures who made outstanding contributions to the founding of New China".
During those arduous years, a group of soldiers like Wu Yunduo emerged.
Zhao Zhankui, a "special labor hero" in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region, melted iron in front of the furnace at 2000 ° C, working more than 12 hours a day, 3 years as a day, without calling a bitter sound. Comrade Zhu De praised him as a "new type of laborer who treats work with the attitude of a revolutionary."
Zhen Rongdian, the "standard-bearer of the New Labor Movement" in the Luyu Border Region of Jinji, is a turner at the Huangyadong Arsenal in Taihang Mountain. He was the first in every production competition, setting a record of 480 shells in The Japanese car, and was known as the "Cannonball King"...
Some people sighed, what kind of spirit supports generations of soldiers and workers to succeed in the past, like Wu Yunduo, who sacrificed their lives and forgot their deaths and did not hesitate? "Dedicate Everything to the Party" this book expresses the sincere feelings of the soldiers and workers for their infinite loyalty to the party.
"His beginnings are simple, and his works will be great." With boundless loyalty and love for the party, militia workers who came from the years of the revolutionary war gave birth to the lofty belief of "listening to the party, following the party, and dedicating everything to the party."
With the continuous struggle of generations of soldiers and workers, the people's soldiers have gradually got rid of the imitation of weapons and equipment, and have achieved a series of major breakthroughs in some core technologies. A certain type of anti-tank missile, a certain type of anti-aircraft gun, a certain type of anti-aircraft machine gun... The advent of a series of weapons marks the beginning of the road of independent research and development of conventional weapons on the mainland.
From weak to strong
"Catch up as soon as possible and be among the top in the world"
This is an ordinary street in the ancient city of Xi'an. If it is not introduced by professionals, few people know that this place was once the birthplace of the world's advanced explosives.
Every day at work, Zhang Gao, a researcher at the Xi'an Institute of Modern Chemistry of China North Industries Group Co., Ltd., would pass by the warning wall full of words in front of the office building, and he often stopped for a while before stepping into the office.
On the wall is a quote from the scientist Henry Auguste Rowland: "Because we are only satisfied with the fact that gunpowder can explode, and have not found the root cause, Chinese have lagged far behind the progress of the world..."
Explosives are the fundamental means of achieving the goal of destruction of weapons and equipment, and the Chinese who pioneered the invention of gunpowder have lagged behind Western countries for many years in the research of explosives.
Wang Zeshan, winner of the country's highest science and technology award and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, has a sharp pain in his heart that "backwardness means being beaten". At the age of 19, he devoted himself to the fire explosives business, focusing on the research of fire explosives technology for more than 60 years, and was committed to tackling new long-range and modular launch charge technologies, making mainland fire explosives technology on top of the world. He said: "I have done one thing in my life, that is, the research of fire explosives, which is the mission given to me by the state, and I must complete it well." ”
Like Wang Zeshan, "catching up as soon as possible and ranking among the forefront of the world" has become the dream chased by generations of soldiers and workers.
Dreams lead the way. Thanks to the efforts of generations of soldiers and workers, although the development of land combat equipment on the mainland started late, it has developed rapidly .
Since 2014, advanced equipment such as 96B tanks independently developed and produced by China North Industries Group Co., Ltd. has participated in international military competitions for many times, and has helped Chinese teams win runners-up in the "tank two" competitions in the past two years.
In 2021, at the 13th China International Aerospace Expo, China North Industries Group Co., Ltd. launched new products and systematic weapon systems and solutions in the fields of armored assault, firepower strike, intelligent ammunition, air defense and anti-missile, unmanned equipment, etc., comprehensively demonstrating the level of foreign trade weapons and equipment of the Continental Army and the ability of scientific and technological innovation and independent research and development.
Today, a number of core devices such as infrared, laser, and low-light have taken the lead in breaking the monopoly of foreign countries; a number of key equipment systems such as intelligent ammunition, warheads, and fireworks have been upgraded across the board... These "tall" equipment and technologies have played an important role in major national projects and major equipment fields such as advanced fighters and domestically produced aircraft carriers.
From scratch, from less to more, from weak to strong, the spirit of militia workers who "dedicate everything to the party" has crossed time and space and has been deeply rooted in the hearts of generations of soldiers and workers. (Special correspondent of this newspaper, Wang Yukai)
