In recent years, with the deepening of research on automatic driving in new energy vehicles such as Tesla and Xiaopeng, automatic driving has begun to become a hot topic in the current automotive industry. On February 10, the California Transportation Authority released a new full-year 2021 autonomous driving data, which shows that the road test mileage of autonomous driving in 2021 will reach 4.1 million miles (6.43 million kilometers), an increase of 2 million miles (3.21 million kilometers) compared with 2020, and the test mileage has doubled. Among them, autonomous driving companies from China and the United States occupy the top of the list.

In terms of total test miles, Waymo, part of Alphabet (Google's parent company), conducted the longest self-driving road test in 2021, with a total mileage of more than 2.3 million miles (3.7 million kilometers), accounting for more than half of all companies combined. In addition, the company has launched a self-driving car without safety officers in San Francisco, which has a range of 900,000 miles (1.44 million kilometers). In second place is Cruise, a self-driving subsidiary of General Motors, which also exceeded 870,000 kilometers in the past year. In third place is Xiaoma Zhixing from China, whose self-driving test mileage exceeds 300,000 miles (480,000 kilometers), ranking first among Chinese companies.

2021 California DMV Autonomous Driving Takes Over Mileage MPI Rankings

In the MPI ranking of autonomous driving takeover mileage, Chinese company AutoX (Antu) ranked first, and Cruise and Didi ranked second and third respectively. This data is one of the core measures of autonomous driving, which comprehensively averages the annual mileage and takeover number, and is widely considered by the industry to be a more objective, quantitative and accurate measure than the test driving experience.
