LG prepares the production line for the iPad OLED display panel

Webmaster's House (ChinaZ.com) Feb. 9 News: As The Elec reports, iPad models with OLED displays seem to be getting closer to production as LG Display prepares equipment in its factory to make OLED panels specifically for the future iPad.

The company is said to be making major adjustments to its production line to be able to provide OLED display panels for Apple's future iPad models. LG Display is currently currently in the process of transferring oled production equipment to its plant in Paju, South Korea. Sources who spoke to The Elec said it was very rare to transfer the active equipment to another production line because it required recalibration and there was a risk of damage during transport.

The Paju plant already has two production lines for iPhone flexible OLED panels, and LG is building another line to increase its iPhone panel capacity. A new fourth line will produce rigid OLED panels. Up to 15,000 panels can be produced per production line per month.

This is the second time there have been reports that the Paju plant is at the heart of Apple's OLED iPad program. Last month, ETNews claimed that LG Display plans to expand its Paju plant to provide panels for the next generation of iPhone and iPad models. While OLED displays may first appear on iPads next year, LG is said to plan to start mass production of these panels at its Pajue plant in 2024. That time is broadly in line with other recent reports that Apple launched the OLED iPad between 2023 and 2024.

LG isn't the only supplier now with plans to build a production line for upcoming iPad models with OLED displays. BOE is also believed to be preparing to supply OLED panels for future iPad models.
