LG is ready to set up a production line for LG OLED display panels

According to The Elec, the iPad model with OLED display seems to be gradually approaching production, as LG Display is preparing equipment at its factory to produce OLED panels specifically for future iPads.

The company is said to be making major adjustments to its production line to be able to provide OLED display panels for Apple's future iPad models. According to the report, this indicates that LG Display is currently transferring oled production equipment to its plant in Paju, South Korea. Sources told The Elec that it is very rare to transfer active equipment to another production line because it requires recalibration and there is a risk of damage during transport.

The Paju plant already has two production lines for flexible OLED panels for iPhones, and LG is building another to increase the production capacity of its iPhone panels. A fourth new line will produce rigid OLED panels. Each line is capable of producing 15,000 panels per month.

This is the second time there have been reports that the Paju plant is at the heart of Apple's OLED iPad program. Last month, ETNews said LG Display was planning to expand its Paju plant to provide panels for the next generation of iPhone and iPad models. While OLED displays could first appear on iPads next year, LG is said to plan to start mass production of these panels at its Paju plant in 2024. This point in time is broadly in line with other recent reports that set the launch of the OLED iPad between 2023 and 2024.

LG isn't the only supplier with plans to build an OLED display line for the upcoming iPad model. China's BOE is also believed to be preparing to provide OLED panels for future iPad models.
