More than 9,000 cases of physical evidence inspection have never been subjected to a single incident of misinspection
Forensic Doctor Chen Haiying: "Female Song Ci" Who Deciphered the Code of Death
□ Reporter Huang Hui
□ Huang Chuangang, correspondent of this newspaper
The first autopsy, Chen Haiying, who graduated from medicine, vomited.
"That kind of environment is really hard to adapt to for a while." Recalling the first "hands-on" autopsy, Chen Haiying, director of the DNA laboratory of the criminal police detachment of the Ganzhou City Public Security Bureau in Jiangxi Province, shook his head continuously, and even felt that he was a bit "embarrassed". But this did not make her flinch, with the love of the police cause and stubbornness not to accept defeat, in a very short period of time, Chen Haiying switched from the role of doctor to the forensic profession.
Chen Haiying told the "Rule of Law Daily" reporter that although the difference between forensic doctors and doctors is only one word, there is a big difference between the two. Out of the scene, do physical examinations, reports, forensic hardships far exceed ordinary people's imagination, and the late-night dissection table and decomposing corpses that are often faced at work are sometimes frightening.
In the past 18 years, from a general forensic doctor to the director of the DNA laboratory, Chen Haiying has been on the scene more than 500 times, participated in the dissection of more than 100 corpses, accepted more than 9,000 cases of physical evidence inspection, more than 28,000 copies of physical evidence inspection materials, issued more than 5,300 physical evidence inspection reports, all the appraisals made were accepted by the court, and there has never been a single misinspective incident.
Fight 5 days and 5 nights to lock in the suspect
Chen Haiying is not in the office most of the time, but in the laboratory a few steps away from the office.
All kinds of inspection materials are continuously sent here from local public security bureaus. Every morning, Chen Haiying would skillfully put on protective equipment and then quickly cut into "laboratory mode".
Behind every piece of examination material, there may be a code for solving a major case, hiding the real culprit of the case. Therefore, as long as he stepped into the laboratory, Chen Haiying's attention was highly concentrated, and he did not let go of any clues.
In a village in Zhantian Township, Ningdu County, there was an extraordinarily large murder case, and the villagers Of the village, Zeng Mouhua, his sons Liao Moutao, Zeng Mouyan, and his son Yang Mouhang, were killed in their homes. After the case occurred, it attracted the great attention of public security organs at all levels.
At the time, there were no witnesses at the scene of the crime and no video surveillance. Because of the inability to find effective clues to solve the case, the investigation of the case has reached a temporary impasse, and the police of the special case team are counting on solving the case through DNA.
Chen Haiying, who was on vacation, learned about it and rushed back to the DNA laboratory overnight to fight alongside his colleague Wu Qimin. "The results of the previous test are not very satisfactory, and there are many miscellaneous peaks in the parting map." Wu Qimin clearly remembers that in order to further obtain a good typing map, Chen Haiying repeated experiments through professional means and finally obtained a reliable DNA information.
After the experimental report was reported, the special case team sent more than 3,000 samples of biological materials for inspection in batches. After 5 days and 5 nights of continuous struggle, the special case team finally locked the criminal suspect Liu Mou through DNA technology and arrested him, and successfully cracked the case.
Previously, a vicious case of killing old people and children also occurred in the Development Zone of Ganzhou City. Because the crime scene is located in the hotel around the university, the personnel entering and leaving are complicated, and the personnel investigation is like finding a needle in a haystack, Chen Haiying stays in the laboratory day and night to compare the blood samples of many personnel. However, after more than two months of overtime, the case has not yet broken through.
Chen Haiying did not give up. One evening, after work, she decided to try again. As usual, repeated comparison of samples, analysis of data... Suddenly, a map made the police at the scene excited, and after repeated comparisons, it was determined that a certain blood sample investigated was related to the information detected at the scene, and after careful screening, the criminal suspect Liu Mouwei was successfully locked.
Important information was detected on the broken stick
In the eyes of the Ganzhou criminal police, after every major criminal case occurs, as long as Chen Haiying is present, he can give them a "reassuring pill".
"The sense of responsibility is very strong, and when encountering difficult cases, I can always find ways to tear my mouth." This is what her colleagues said about her. A clueless criminal case, and finally a breakthrough was made, and Chen Haiying was the person behind the case who made the impossible possible.
In September 2018, Tan Mouzhang, a resident of a village group in Jiading Town, Xinfeng County, died in the bedroom of his family's tujia house, with a large amount of blood on the head and bed of the deceased, and the indoor clothes were messy.
Because the scene is in a remote countryside, there is no video surveillance nearby, and the fingerprints, footprints and other conventional physical evidence at the scene have not been left, and only a broken wooden stick was extracted from the on-site investigation, and the police analysis may be the crime tool used by the suspect, which has become the key physical evidence to detect the case.
However, after the broken wooden stick was sent to the laboratory, colleagues cried bitterly, because in normal times, the success rate of DNA testing on the wood stick and other testing materials is extremely low, and everyone feels that they are not sure, and if they rush to test, a little carelessness will also lead to the effective information loss of the suspect, and it will never be able to test again.
Faced with an almost impossible inspection mission, Chen Haiying stood up. She did not start the test immediately, but consulted a large amount of information before the experiment, and combined with her many years of practical experience, designed the most suitable test plan.
Kung Fu pays off. Through patient and meticulous inspection, Chen Haiying finally succeeded in detecting the suspect information on the broken wooden stick and helping the police crack the case.
"Chen Haiying is the 'sophisticated weapon' of the Ganzhou criminal police." Li Hui, a member of the party committee of the Shangyou County Public Security Bureau, is a veteran criminal policeman, and when chen Haiying is mentioned, he can't help but be solemn. Because, it was precisely under the technical support of Chen Haiying that the backlog of a case of murder by a ministry governor that occurred in Shangyou County more than ten years ago was cracked, the real murderer was able to ambush the law, and the thorn that had grown in Li Hui's heart for more than ten years was finally pulled out.
In 2005, in Shangyou County, the murder of "2005.12.17" taxi driver Yan Mouming, Chen Haiying and Li Hui both went to the scene of the crime and extracted evidence, but the case has not been solved. For more than a decade, this case has become a piece of Chen Haiying's heart disease. She recorded the case in the small notebook she carried with her and looked through it from time to time.
In May 2021, Chen Haiying once again conducted a large-scale investigation of the blood samples extracted from the scene of the crime that year, working day and night, hoping to find out the classification consistent with the physical evidence at the scene from the huge information database, so as to identify the suspect. After repeated and anticipation again and again, she finally matched in the 376th blood sample...
Take every case seriously
In 2005, the TV series "The Great Song Ti Criminal Officer", which told the story of the forensic doctor Song Ci's case, was broadcast nationwide. At that time, Chen Haiying had just been involved in public security work for 2 years, and as a forensic doctor, she also liked to chase dramas, "I want to be Song Ci and be an upright and professional forensic doctor."
How to do forensics well? Chen Haiying quoted a sentence said by Song Ci, the protagonist of the TV series, that is, "human life is greater than the sky".
In Chen Haiying's view, a hair and a drop of blood are important details to uncover the truth; a scar and a gesture are all silent "confessions" left by the deceased. She said that witnessing the cruelty of the crime scene, in the face of the victims and their families, she always asked herself to do her best every time she went to the scene and every test, and could not make any mistakes and omissions, because everything she did was for the rights of the living and for the deceased.
Treating every case seriously, walking on the edge of the blade every day, and examining every step with a scientific spirit and rigorous attitude in accordance with procedural regulations, this is a portrayal of Chen Haiying's work. "I was afraid that after I retired, the procuratorate would come to me and say, Chen Haiying, in which year did you do the test in which case, you did it wrong, and some people were wronged." Therefore, she remains vigilant at all times.
Up to now, all the appraisals made by Chen Haiying have been accepted by the court, and the accuracy rate has reached 100%.
Scientific exploration is never-ending. Through professional technology to crack the "corpse language" code again and again, so that the case can be detected, but also let Chen Haiying more soberly realize that the role of forensic evidence DNA technology in the detection of cases is becoming increasingly prominent, and new technologies emerge in an endless stream, to conform to the development of the situation, we must continue to learn and innovate.
In order to explore the improvement of traditional DNA extraction methods, Chen Haiying established a preliminary model of improved methods for contact DNA testing in 2013 on the basis of reading a lot of domestic and foreign literature and learning advanced DNA extraction techniques in other laboratories, after thousands of repeated experiments and demonstrations.
Since 2014, Chen Haiying has led the team to use the improved method in actual combat, which has greatly improved the success rate of DNA detection by effectively streamlining steps, reducing the probability of contamination, and shortening the extraction time. Today, the detection rate of contact DNA in Ganzhou public security has increased from the previous 6% to 25%, and the detection rate has increased by 317% compared with the traditional silicon bead method, ranking the forefront of the country in detecting contact DNA.
Forensic technology work is very dependent on talent. In the eyes of the "apprentices", the Ganzhou Public Security DNA Laboratory team has continued to develop and grow under the leadership of Chen Haiying. "There's tremendous energy under her skinny body, and she has no leadership shelf, like our sister." In the eyes of team member Tang Jinjing, whenever she encounters difficulties in her work, such as new methods will not be used, difficult materials will not be processed, maps will not be analyzed, and appraisal opinions will not be down, the first thing she thinks of is "Haiying Sister".
"An excellent team needs an excellent front-runner, and Chen Haiying is the front-runner of the DNA laboratory and even the city's forensic technology team." Xie Jiang, head of the criminal police detachment of the Ganzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau, said that in recent years, under the leadership of Chen Haiying, the Ganzhou Public Security DNA Laboratory has become the only DNA laboratory in the province that has passed the certification of the national laboratory and the only key DNA laboratory of the Ministry of Public Security in the province.
