Toyota's fiscal third quarter (October 2021 to December 2021) financial report today showed that sales revenue in the third fiscal quarter was 7.79 trillion yen, down 4.47% year-on-year; EBIT was 1.09 trillion yen, down 4.17% year-on-year; and gross profit margin fell to 10.1% from 12.1% in the same period in 2020.
For the decline in the third fiscal quarter, Toyota explained that it was mainly affected by costs and marketing.
However, from the overall situation of the first three fiscal quarters (April 2021 to December 2021), Toyota's performance situation is still on the rise: sales revenue in the first three fiscal quarters was 23.27 trillion yen, up 19.16% year-on-year; net profit was 2.38 trillion yen, up 59.06% year-on-year; cash flow from operating activities was 2.64 trillion yen, up 44.26% year-on-year.
By region, Toyota's operating profit in Japan, North America, and Europe in the first three fiscal quarters was 1.21 trillion yen, 0.50 trillion yen, and 0.14 trillion yen, respectively. The Chinese subsidiary's operating profit in the first three fiscal quarters was 0.22 trillion yen, lower than in Japan and North America.
In terms of sales, Toyota delivered 6.096 million units worldwide from April to December 2021, an increase of 112.1% year-on-year, while Toyota and Lexus brand deliveries were 7.155 million units, up 108% year-on-year.
However, even under the double attack of the epidemic and lack of core, it once again surpassed Volkswagen to win last year's global sales championship, toyota is not optimistic about production in the first quarter of this year - lowering the forecast for fiscal year 2022 (April 1, 2021 - March 31, 2022) to 8.5 million units, after the target production of 9 million units.
Toyota believes that in the first quarter of this year, it is expected that the factory will reduce production by 140,000 units due to the spread of the epidemic; if the chip shortage continues, it is expected to reduce production by 100,000-200,000 vehicles.
Looking ahead to the entire fiscal year, Toyota is also relatively conservative: sales revenue in fiscal 2022 is expected to be 29.5 trillion yen, which is 500 billion yen lower than the previous target. Affected by expectations such as investment income, the EBIT target was raised to 3.52 trillion yen, and gross profit margin was also slightly adjusted to 8.4%.
