The mother of medical security, the daughter of the opening ceremony performance... The doctors behind the Winter Olympics

The success of the Winter Olympics is inseparable from a group of white-clad angels behind them. They are the "ski doctors" at the scene of the Winter Olympics, the doctors on duty in the medical security of the Winter Olympic wards... Although the temperature at the ski resort is below minus ten degrees, their common wish is to go all out to show the world China's style.

On February 4, Dr. Liu Zhili, who is responsible for the medical security of the Winter Olympic Ward of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, and her colleagues on duty watched the live broadcast of the opening ceremony together in the Winter Olympic Ward, and when a group of children with white pigeons ran in, her heart beat faster, because her daughter was also among them. Liu Zhili's eyes widened and she tried to find her daughter's figure, although she was just a small snowflake, there was no close-up, and instantly melted into the huge snowflake, Liu Zhili still caught her with her mother's intuition.

"My daughter, Doudou, is a member of the Jinfan Dance Troupe at Beijing Jingshan School. Last October, she was selected for the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, perhaps by providence, and not long after I was notified to perform medical security tasks in the Winter Olympic ward of Union Hospital. My daughter and I agreed to jointly help the Winter Olympics and witness the covenant of ice and snow on the screen." Liu Zhili told reporters.

Liu Zhili said, "On January 7, 2022, I entered the closed loop 10 days earlier than expected, and I did not have time to say goodbye to Doudou. At this time, their training is also becoming more and more intensive, and the intensity is getting bigger and bigger, and often I wait until late to video with her, and she comes home tired and falls asleep. On January 15, my lover told me that my daughter had a fever during training, and the teacher informed me to pick her up and carry out epidemiological screening and treatment. Usually, there are two doctors in the family (me and my father), and my lover never bothered when my daughter was sick, and he was a little flustered at this time. Fortunately, with the help of Corey and colleagues in the emergency department, my daughter's smooth medical treatment is B flow, and she needs to be treated with medication for a few days."

That night, Doudou had a fever of up to 40.3 ° C, and my lover called again and again to communicate and asked me if I could go home; Doudou cried and shouted "Mom" in the video because of the unbearable fever. "As a doctor, I was professionally and rationally told me that this was just the process of disease development, the fever would always recede, the disease would always be better, but I still had a heart like a knife. My daughter, Doudou, who has always been known for being sensible and strong, how uncomfortable it is to cry to me. Many days later, when I took up my pen to write this article, I remembered the difficulties of that time and still couldn't help but burst into tears."

Fortunately, the beans are gradually getting better. Soon, she will also enter closed-loop training. January 28 is Doudou's 11th birthday, and it is also the day they are going to enter the closed loop. According to the requirements of the Olympic Organizing Committee, they were not allowed to bring any food, so I could not prepare a cake for her. She came to say goodbye to me at noon, and across the iron fence at the west gate of the hospital, I could feel her indifference, the atmosphere, and the emotion of her honor above all else. The moment I turned my head when I was separated, I almost burst into tears, it was heartache, but also relief, heartache as a mother could not accompany her daughter to celebrate her birthday, glad that my girl grew up, grew up to be what I hoped...

Accompanied by ethereal children's singing, one "peace dove" foot on the snowflakes flew and danced all over the place, and the daughter's big "pigeon" led a small "pigeon" into the room. Although I couldn't see her face clearly, that proud, confident, enthusiastic smile, I knew it was her! Although each child is only a point of light on the screen, the children use their serious, innocent and romantic performances to make us feel the charm of the Olympics in front of the screen. It is ordinary people, like my daughter and me, ordinary little snowflakes, that converge together into a huge snowflake, spreading the Olympic spirit to the people of the world and showing the power of friendship across borders."

Through the Winter Olympics, we filled the gap in skiing first aid in the past

"Encourage 300 million people to participate in ice and snow sports, 300 million people go up, we must ensure that 300 million people come down safely." Bai Peng, an anesthesiologist at Peking University Third Hospital, is a ski doctor in the ski medical support team for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. The medical team members need to carry 15 kilograms of equipment, through skiing, from the track where the athletes are racing to the side of the injured athletes, and carry out injury judgment and emergency treatment next to them.

Bai Peng has now passed the Second Level Instructor Certification of the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance, and has also passed the domestic Ski Instructor Certification. But in Bai Peng's view, alpine skiing is still a huge challenge.

The first is the large slope, which is much more difficult than the advanced tracks of popular skiing. Second, according to the requirements of the International Snow Federation, alpine skiing is icy snow, closer to skating than skiing, the difficulty of medical rescue on the steep ice surface is very high, and how to safely stop next to the injured athlete is the primary difficulty faced by ski doctors. "Ice and snow gloves need to be removed during the examination, and within a minute our hands will lose their ability to perceive due to cold and numbness, and their activity will become sluggish." Bai Peng introduced.

Soon after Beijing's successful bid for the Olympic Games, the Third Hospital of Peking University established the Ski Association. The five ski doctors responsible for the winter Olympics this time are all from the Ski Association of the Three Hospitals of Beijing Medical College.

"Ski first aid used to be blank in our country, but through this Winter Olympics, our medical staff are more aware of the treatment of ski injuries." Zhou Fang, executive director of Yanqing Hospital of Peking University Third Hospital and director of the Trauma Center of Peking University Third Hospital, said.

To save time and resources, healthcare workers have been abstaining from drinking water

Beijing Tongren Hospital mainly undertakes four types of medical security tasks and sends 23 medical staff. Kang Mengtian is an ophthalmologist at Beijing Tongren Hospital and a doctor party member, who is currently doing medical volunteer service work at the Zhangjiakou National Ski Jumping Center, mainly responsible for the medical services of foreign athletes at the medical station of the Ski Jumping Center.

"The team members at the medical station work very hard, but everyone can be silent and patient. Due to the needs of epidemic prevention and control, front-line medical staff need to wear isolation gowns and protective clothing, the internal environment of protective clothing is airtight, hot and sweaty indoors, and it is very cold in the outdoor environment of minus ten degrees, and everyone has to endure discomfort and complete 4 to 6 hours of work in a low-oxygen and cold environment. Because protective clothing is disposable, healthcare workers often rarely go to the toilet or never drink water in order to save time and resources. ”

The Beijing Winter Olympics have now officially opened, and the main national ski jumping center of Kang Mengtian's medical station is responsible for the front-line treatment of on-site athletes and the medical protection of venue staff. At present, the medical team has completed the drill of treating the injured, including the front-line treatment of athletes after injuries, and the transfer of injured people. Everyone has already been in place at work, providing comprehensive protection for athletes and field staff.

On the afternoon of January 23, Meng Yifan, attending physician of the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery of Beijing Tongren Hospital, as a medical English volunteer for the Winter Olympics, arrived at the destination of this mission by high-speed train, Zhangjiakou National Ski Jumping Center - Xue Ruyi.

His job is as a doctor and medical translator at the FOP3 medical station. For the sport of ski jumping, there are FOP1, 2, 3, and three stations, corresponding to the three areas of athlete departure, take-off and landing. Each station has a total of 2 shifts, alternating, each class is equipped with 3 doctors, 1 nurse and 4 stretcher crew members, a total of 8 people. In the athlete landing area, it is the place with the highest probability of injury, so his job FOP3 is also the most tense and busy.

His "comrades-in-arms" are all from the First Affiliated Hospital of Hebei Medical University. Every time you go to work, everyone has to get up at about 6 o'clock, a heavy equipment (in addition to the conventional down jacket, ski pants, snow boots, etc., but also wear the Beidou navigation system, video recorder, 2 hand tables) need to wear for a long time, and then collect nucleic acid, eat breakfast, take the commuter shuttle to arrive at the job, first unified killing, wear isolation gowns, face screens, gloves, and then go to FOP3 to start work. Count the first aid kits, check whether the stretcher, limb holders, and neck rest are intact, and then start the day's work, which ends around 21:00. At the end of the day's work, it is necessary to fill the supplies, kill, return to the station by car, after a simple meal, there will be an online summary meeting, and there will be time to rest around 23:00. Riding the stars and returning with the moon has become the norm for their work.

From the official training day of the Olympic Games, to the qualification round, the final, every attendance, the above work must be repeated. Because FOP3 doctors need to pay attention to every movement from the athlete's departure, they often need to stand outside most of the time, always paying attention to the situation inside the field. The snow under the sun during the day, very dazzling, you need to wear sunglasses, the temperature of more than 20 degrees below zero, even if you wear heavy, you often feel the cold wind, after each class, the glasses, the face screen, eyebrows and eyelashes will form a thin layer of ice, even the water vapor inside the mask will freeze, and the facial skin will stick together. However, these harsh conditions were nothing to the volunteers, who fought side by side and were enthusiastic.

The medical station has become a "little princess" who is desperately spoiled by all the team members

"On the other side of the wide road hung a sign with a red fluttering and cute snow rong waving to me and Miss Xiao Wen of the Ministry of Health and Medical Care, and we couldn't help but look at each other and smile, as if to say together: Come on, partner, go dry." Lin Chen, a basic surgeon at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, told reporters.

Peng Huiming, an orthopedic department, labels the instruments in the rescue box.

Lin Chen said that I carefully observed my white round face and neck in the mirror, without a trace of indentation, and could not help but sigh that this anti-N95 mask pressure ulcer artifact was really perfect! Then check the airtightness of the N95 and go out with high morale. Walk through the long corridor between the hotels, meet the outsiders, greet each other with a friendly smile and greet each other, "How are you?" Good!”

Xiao Wen and Xiao Wen came to the medical station, and the medical station became a "little princess" who was desperately spoiled by all the team members, and everyone was trying to find ways to "decorate and embellish" her every day. Peng Huiming, an enthusiastic and humorous orthopedic surgeon, conveniently labeled and modeled various instruments and equipment when he opened the first aid kit to count, and yes, he actually brought a labeling machine! Worthy of being a concord surgeon, even off the operating table to pursue the perfection of every detail.

The English characters for "Medical Station" are illustrated with eye-catching arrows.

He Ye of the Department of Cardiology of Peking Union Medical College Hospital has been "embellished" outside the medical station. Cute flower body "medical station" English text sample with eye-catching arrows, printed and posted on the wall of the elevator door, afraid that everyone will not know which side is the medical station after leaving the elevator.

Zhou Jianxin, executive vice president of Beijing Tiantan Hospital, is also the chief medical officer of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee. Since he officially entered the Winter Olympic Organizing Committee in October last year, Zhou Jianxin's life and work have fully entered the "Winter Olympic rhythm". "Often it is more than five o'clock in the morning, Zhangjiakou, Yanqing, Olympic Village, several venues run back and forth, come back at seven or eight o'clock in the evening." The staff around them said that Zhou Jianxin's team should communicate with various medical security teams, design medical security plans during the event, and find and solve various problems.

"Yesterday's opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics was a source of excitement, and as the medical security officer behind the scenes, everyone on our team is very proud." Zhou Jianxin said that although the international epidemic prevention and control situation is complex and severe, the Beijing Winter Olympics still opened as scheduled, which reflects China's strength and China's self-confidence.

"For the medical security team, it is our only and greatest wish to let friends from all over the world enjoy the joy of ice and snow sports and the joy of the Olympic Games in Beijing in Beijing, and in order to realize this wish, we will go all out to show the world China's style."
