Microsoft Windows Terminal Preview 1.13 is released

Windows Terminal Preview 1.13 includes a revamped setup interface that has been updated to align with the design language of Windows 11 thanks to WinUI 2.6. There are also new profile settings that enable you to automatically start a profile as an administrator. If you operate in a low window, launching this profile will open a new window. However, if you are already in an elevated window, the startup administrator profile will open in the same window. There are also new "delegated" parameters to satisfy this configuration of some Windows terminal commands.

Interestingly, Microsoft has also introduced a new text rendering engine. The company notes that the performance benefits are not noticeable in most use cases, but there is a noticeable performance gain in some edge cases, such as when you want to display a large number of colors. In these cases, the updated rendering engine will draw and display your text at the refresh rate of the panel. Still, Microsoft has cautioned that since this is a preview and work in progress, it is slightly unstable at this point and does not have all the features of the existing engine. Currently, it can be enabled through settings, but Microsoft will continue to improve it over time until it is ready to replace the current text rendering engine. The company also noted that

"We acknowledge that this feature began with a storm caused in the summer of 2021. When confronted with being told that our render pipeline has poor performance, we turn inward. Relying on our existing experience, and relying heavily on the work of our partner teams, we came to the conclusion that the DirectWrite Universal Renderer was the best fit for our product. We were wrong. So we dedicate this experimental renderer as an olive branch to the community. We know there's still a lot to learn, but we hope you'll accept our apology and understand that we are human beings who are capable and willing to learn from past mistakes to support this product. Thank you for your insistence on working with us. We strive to make this an experience that we can all learn from, not only to improve ourselves, but also to improve our products to the delight of both of you. ”

In addition to that, there are a lot of small changes like customizable sounds, new actions, support for snap snapshot layouts in Windows 11, and a lot of other big fixes.
