Do uterine fibroids affect IVF success rates? How big is the impact?

Usually, every couple who have IVF has a preconception test before the start of the week to see if they are eligible for conception and to assess the risk of childbirth. Many of these sisters found problems with their uterus during the examination, such as fibroids. After understanding that uterine fibroids may have an impact on pregnancy, I wanted to do laparoscopic extraction, but I was afraid that I would wait too long after the operation, and I couldn't afford to delay, and I didn't know whether to cut it. So do uterine fibroids affect IVF success rates? How big is the impact?

1. What are uterine fibroids?

Uterine fibroids are a benign tumor that is more common in the female reproductive organs and is common in women aged 30 to 50 years. At present, the cause of the disease is unknown, and clinical observations may be related to cellular mutations in the normal myosphere, sex hormones and local growth factor interactions. Common clinical symptoms are:

(1) Uterine bleeding: This is the most important symptom of uterine fibroids, and more than 50% of women will appear. Among them, there is more periodic bleeding, and there will also be irregular vaginal bleeding.

(2) Abdominal mass and compression symptoms: As fibroids gradually grow, they may compress the surrounding organs, causing urinary frequency, urgency, and constipation.

(3) Pain: Under normal circumstances, uterine fibroids do not cause pain, but if the subserosal fibroids are twisted, there will be a feeling of abdominal collapse and swelling, low back pain and back pain.

(4) Anemia: Due to long-term menorrhagia or irregular vaginal bleeding, it may cause women to have hemorrhagic anemia.

(5) Infertility and miscarriage: Affected by the growth site, size and number of fibroids, it will also cause female infertility or miscarriage. It is understood that the spontaneous abortion rate of fibroid patients is 4 times higher than that of normal people.

2. Will uterine fibroids affect the success rate of IVF?

According to the location where the fibroids grow, it can be divided into:

Intermuscular fibroids: grow mainly inside the muscle layer of the uterus;

Subserosal fibroids: muscle layers grow out and protrude outward towards the pelvic cavity;

Submucosal fibroids: Muscle layers grow out and protrude towards the inner uterine cavity.

And the impact of different locations on pregnancy is different. According to the study, the pregnancy rate of IVF in women with submucosal fibroids was only 25.5% and the abortion rate was 40%; the pregnancy rate of IVF in women with subserosal fibroids was 42%, and the abortion rate was 30%; and the pregnancy rate of IVF was only 19.6% and the miscarriage rate was 33% for women with intermycoidal fibroids, if the diameter of the fibroids was greater than 2cm. Therefore, women with uterine fibroids can decide whether to cut or not depending on the situation and follow the doctor's advice. In general, submucosal fibroids will compress the intima, occupy the uterine space, and affect the growth and development of embryos after IVF, so surgical resection is recommended first. If it is a subserous fibroid, it usually does not affect the intima, so in most cases it will not affect the success rate of IVF and can be temporarily left untreated.

However, if the uterine fibroids are larger than 4cm, they will cause frequent urination, constipation, etc., which will affect the implantation of the embryo. Therefore, in order to ensure the success rate of IVF, it is recommended to remove the ivory and then perform IVF fertility. In general, fibroids do not affect ovulation induction, so sisters can induce ovulation and then undergo surgery to perform IVF after the body recovers.

In the face of uterine fibroids, sisters should be treated rationally, identify the type of fibroids, and cooperate with doctors to treat them in order to usher in a good pregnancy as soon as possible.
